Very Good

The location is good and it is not far from York Minster. Our room is on 2nd floor and only stairs to get up. It takes 2 bus stop and little walk from the York station. The room space is ok but being aware that the room is just right above the bar, so it will be noisy if you come back to your room before the pub's closed time.

The transportation is quite convenient, about 10 minutes to tube station.
It is a backpacker hostel. You cannot check in and get the key after the bar is open.

Amazing

This hotel is a bit far from the station, but for walking, I recommend getting off the bus and walking along the railway fence to the hotel. That road crosses a bridge and is not far from the hotel. The hotel is very convenient to the Cathedral and Shambles Street, and the female shopkeeper is also quite enthusiastic. The room I stayed in was in the attic, so it was a bit troublesome to carry my luggage, but there was a corridor above, which made the room feel very wide.
We stayed locally but we popped in because we liked the look of the breakfast menu. We came back every day we were in York. The breakfast was excellent, the staff were great (especially the cook), impeccably clean and my girlfriend and I loved the motown. We'll be back next time.

Great Location. Bed was comfy. Had a warm welcome when we arrived. (Pub looked nice, though we never drank in there during our stay). Powerful Shower. Downsides, can be noisy, but you are staying above a pub, so it is what it is. The bathroom is a bit tired. The shower door doesn't close so impossible not to get water on the floor. Toilet seat was loose. If these minor repair issues were addressed it would be a pretty good room. For a couple of nights, we had a perfectly fine stay.

We enjoyed our stay. It's not the best place I've ever stayed but not the worst either. Only a 10 minute walk from the train station. Very central, not far from York Minster and The Shambles, definitely a great location. Nice pubs, shops and cafes near by as well. Our room was River Ouse it was small but had everything we needed. Decent bed (bit firm for me fine for hubby) it had tea/coffee, hair dryer and iron. Toiletries in the bathroom and the shower was good though wee black bit fell off it when in use. The silicone could be doing with being replaced, it made the otherwise lovely bathroom look a bit grubby. It is a bit noisy so my sleep was a bit disrupted but given the location it was fine. Breakfast was good! Not a lot on the continental but the cooked breakfast was great. My husband raved about the sausages. Staff from checking in, serving drinks and at breakfast were all fabulous. Very friendly and attentive. Also the pub is lovely.

Cracking boozer great location and great choice of drinks, we drink here every time we visit York, live bands at the weekends are fantastic, please don’t take out the Strongbow in favour of horrible craft ciders as we see that far too much in pubs these days, keep up the good work

Value for money hotel. Pros: cheap, clean, comfortable bed and good shower. Cons: loud music downstairs (as long as you book knowing this it’s not an issue), old building so some signs of possible damp and old fashioned windows which let a breeze in. For us none of these bothered us given the price we paid. I would 100% recommend!

The location is good and the rooms are okay (ours had black mold on the walls). The staff's attitude and service leaves a lot to be desired for. Also they advertise breakfast for £6.50 per person but we ended up paying £22 for two people - because they were so unwelcoming and rude I didn't even bother to raise it up with them. I thought it'd be a charming experience to stay in rooms attached to a traditional pub but I'd probably stay at a proper hotel next time.

I visit York regularly and mostly stay in hotels. I decided to do something different this time and stay here. Checkin is through the pub downstairs. The two younger members of staff had no idea what to do when I arrived but the third member of staff took the lead to check me in and bring me to my room. Initial impression of the room was that it was nicely presented, clean and modern. However, I was simply shocked to find that my bathroom had no shower in it. I went back to reception and asked to be assigned a room with a shower but was told no other room was available. So, for the first time in many years, I stayed in a location that didn’t even have the most basic of facilities. If I knew this before I booked here, I certainly wouldn’t have made the booking. In the morning, I asked to have breakfast. It was cooked to order and was delicious. The lady who served me was very efficient and friendly. There’s no air conditioning in the room so I had to have a fan running all night to try to stay cool. So, would I stay here again? Probably not, I’m afraid. The lack of basic facilities is a complete show stopper for me.

We had a fantastic night of Northern Soul music in this pub with a great team behind the bar who made me and my wife feel welcome as soon as we stepped into the bar. Dylan and Sass were very busy but found time for a quick chat. Great atmosphere and we will definitely be going back very soon.

Visited Last Month while Staying in York. Great Local Community Pub with Friendly Locals and Good Beer,Spirits and Cider Selection on Tap. Located within the Bootham Area close by to the Abbey Walls and the Cathedral by a short walk, a great place to grab a pint.

Excellent sports pub and neighborhood gathering place for York locals. We stayed one block down the street, and the pub was clearly the heartbeat of the neighborhood with events going on many mornings and evenings that were very well-attended. Delicious and inexpensive full English breakfast available even if you don't stay in the rooms upstairs. Which appeared to be fully occupied in March. This is not the most beautiful or historic pub in this delightful city, but one of the most-loved.
