The centuries-old intangible cultural heritage of the millennium-old village

Xilong Village was built in the middle of the Tang Dynasty, with a history of over 1000 years, and is one of the earliest ancient villages in Puning. "Xilong Lantern" is a traditional handicraft that has been passed down in Xilong Village for more than 600 years. As early as the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it was famous in Chaoshan, and is a well-known century-old brand. The craft of making Xilong lanterns has also been included in the first batch of intangible cultural heritage list in Jieyang City. Xilong lanterns are made of bamboo strips as thin as toothpicks and as thin as paper. This kind of purely hand-woven lantern craft is relatively rare in eastern Guangdong and even in the whole country. The production process of Xilong lanterns is extremely complicated, with at least 10 steps, each of which has a high technical content. In Xilong Village, men, women, old and young are all familiar with this craft, so Xilong is known as "the sunrise of a thousand lanterns". The lanterns born from their hands are sold all year round to Chaoshan, Meizhou, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia and other places. It can be said that wherever there are Chaoshan people, there are Xilong lanterns.
