Nanhetou Historical and Cultural District
Don't miss it when passing by , niche attractions have their own characteristics too. Take a short stroll in the Pinghu East Lake Scenic Area, and the Nanhetou Historical and Cultural District. Nanhetou, formerly known as 'Mingke Li', was historically the affluent area of Pinghu. During the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, the district prospered like never before, becoming one of the areas where merchants and officials gathered. Many prestigious families from Pinghu built large mansions, ancestral halls, and private gardens here, leaving behind a wealth of historical relics. It can be said that Nanhetou is the last historical street in the true sense of Pinghu.

There is a historical and cultural block called Nanhetou in Pinghu, Zhejiang
It can be said that in China, almost every city has its own historical and cultural block, and Pinghu, Zhejiang, also has one, called Nanhetou Historical and Cultural Block. 'Nanhetou', formerly known as Mingkeli, has a history of more than a hundred years since the late Qing Dynasty. Here, there are many ancient houses from the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, which is a concentrated place of Pinghu's historical and cultural heritage.
The Nanhetou Historical and Cultural Block is located in the center of Pinghu City, on both sides of Nanhe (commonly known as Ganhe) in Danghu Street, presenting a traditional water town pattern of two streets sandwiching a river. Due to the old age of the houses in the block, most of them are in disrepair. There are countless old houses over a hundred years old, such as the old houses of many famous families such as Mo, Ge, Zhang, Lu, Chen, Xu, etc.
In June 2004, the former sites of the Ge Clan Ancestral Hall, Zhi Chuan School, and Ge Clan Tea House in Nanhetou, as well as Mingxi Bridge, Lishi Bridge, Yingrui Bridge, Xiuyuan Bridge, and Yongning Bridge on the west side of Nanhetou were announced as cultural relics protection points in Pinghu City. The 14 river ports along the river and the 4 ancient wells in the block have been listed as key registered cultural relics in Pinghu City. The Nanhetou Historical and Cultural Block will reflect the historical context of Pinghu's urban development from the middle and late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, making it a microcosm of the old city of Pinghu, perfectly and vividly interpreting and preserving the historical memory of the ancient city of Danghu.
In order to enhance the urban image of Pinghu and to meet the need for protection of historical relics in the city, since 2013, the relevant departments of Pinghu have completed the protection planning of the Nanhetou Historical and Cultural Block and launched the maintenance and development project as scheduled. It is said that the renovation of the Nanhetou Historical and Cultural Block is divided into three phases, following the principle of 'repairing the old as the old', in order to restore the original appearance of history. The eastern section adjacent to the East Lake Scenic Area has been renovated and opened to tourists from all over the country and local residents.
