Shaoxing is not only the hometown of Lu Xun, but also this niche treasure spot
hi~ I am Cinderella. Xi
Speaking of the most recommended treasure spots for a trip around Hangzhou,
Shaoxing is definitely my top choice for a weekend getaway.
Based on my ten trips to Shaoxing, I've gathered some experience,
and today I'm going to show you a different way to enjoy the city.
You can enjoy beautiful scenery without the crowds.
The underestimated small town of Shangyu, near Shaoxing,
gave me a big surprise, with many niche attractions worth visiting.
🚗Transportation
🚄Take the high-speed train to 'Shangyu South/Shaoxing East' station, then it's more convenient to take a taxi from there.
👉🏻About my 2️⃣-day 1️⃣-night itinerary:
Day1️⃣
Shijing Reservoir 👉🏻 Fenghuang Mountain Archaeological Site Park 👉🏻 Exotic Night Market Street
Day2️⃣
Chinese Filial Piety Park👉🏻Zhongxin Art Museum👉🏻Lizhi Street
✅About the attractions
1️⃣Shijing Reservoir
A vast forest of water fir trees is a healing green wonderland, and it's even more stunning when the water fir turns yellow in autumn and winter. You can also go boating on the lake, camping, and barbecuing.
2️⃣Fenghuang Mountain Archaeological Site Park
There's a museum, experience hall, and you can take kids to try making celadon. The site allows you to see the original firing scene, and there's also a reservoir nearby with a riverbank full of flowers in spring, which is very beautiful.
3️⃣Exotic Night Market Street
Next to the Filial Piety Park, it's a lively market that integrates food, entertainment, and cultural creativity, perfect for a stroll in the evening.
4️⃣Chinese Filial Piety Park
A park themed around 'filial piety culture', it has a large area with many photogenic spots, including a group of elephant sculptures at the entrance that are great for photos.
5️⃣Zhongxin Art Museum
Opening hours (8:30~11:30/12:30-16:00)
Located very close to the Filial Piety Park, like Guozhuang and Yunsong Book House, it's a delicate garden with scenic views everywhere, and there are many fine wood carvings to view and learn about history.
6️⃣Lizhi Street
A street full of food and coffee, perfect for photos and checking in. It's not big, you can walk through it in 20 minutes, and it's a bit more lively on holidays with markets and performances.
🏘️About accommodation
🔺This time I stayed at the Shangyu Marriott Hotel, which opened in September. The hotel's unique design has both modern and traditional Jiangnan water town charm, and the quality service is also memorable. Moreover, the hotel's location is convenient for all attractions, and it's only 10 minutes from the high-speed train station.
🔺The hotel offers Chinese cuisine, Japanese food, and all-day dining options. I happened to be there during Halloween and experienced a buffet feast with a variety of delicious foods, including small green dragons and a salmon seafood feast. In the evening, you can go to the lounge bar to enjoy a tipsy time, listen to music performances, and have a deep conversation with friends, which is very atmospheric.
🔺The hotel also has a full range of facilities including a swimming pool and gym to fill your leisure time and make your trip more energetic.

To experience the Orchid Pavilion described by Wang Xizhi, I made a special trip to Shaoxing
Hi, I am 11
The misty and rainy Jiangnan in February and March is the best place for outings on rainy days, and I cast my vote for Shaoxing. Especially knowing that the Orchid Pavilion is free of charge until March 31st, after seeing Shaoxing through the writings of Lu Xun, I also wanted to understand Shaoxing through the writings of Wang Xizhi.
.
Day❶: Hangzhou—Orchid Pavilion—Chinese Filial Piety Garden—Zhongxin Art Museum—Shangyu Hotel
Day❷: Shangyu—Cangqiao Straight Street—Hangzhou
❤️ From now until March 31st, 68 attractions in Shaoxing are free of charge
.
⏰ 10:00-12:00
📍 Orchid Pavilion Scenic Area
🎫 Free admission, usually 70💰, parking 10💰
I knew about the Orchid Pavilion, but never had the chance to visit. So I set off early in the day to see Wang Xizhi's Qu Shui Liu Shang, and in the step-by-step scenery, to savor the tranquil beauty of the Orchid Pavilion on a rainy day.
.
✔️ Chenghuai Bridge: Calligraphy banners fluttering in the wind, like a poet reciting verses
✔️ Tianzhang Temple: China's own 'Glazed Light Court'
✔️ Orchid Pavilion Calligraphy Museum: The cultural depth of the character 'Zhi'
.
⏰ 12:30-14:30
📍 Shangyu Marriott Hotel
First, check into the Shangyu Marriott Hotel, which just opened last September. The rooms are spacious and the facilities are new. After lunch, set off for Shaoxing's creative dishes, the smoked fish really melts in your mouth 😋
.
⏰14:30-15:30
📍 Zhongxin Art Museum
🎫 Free admission, free parking
It's just a 15-minute drive after lunch. The classical Chinese garden integrates pavilions, rocks and water, corridors and waterside pavilions, and one can't help but admire that Chinese aesthetics are enduring.
.
⏰15:30-17:00
📍 Chinese Filial Piety Garden
🎫 Free admission, free parking
After visiting the art museum, you can come here for a walk, a free 4A-level scenic spot. Themed around filial piety and Emperor Shun, the representative 'Elephant Plowing and Bird Tilling' sculptures are worth seeing.
.
⏰17:30-19:00
📍 Shangyu Marriott Hotel
For a lazy traveler, dining and staying at the hotel, it's been too cold lately, and having a small hot pot buffet in the evening really warms the heart. The buffet is rich, with a small Qinglong hot pot for each person to get your money's worth, plus seafood, sashimi, and fresh-cut beef. In the evening, sit at the 5th-floor terrace bar~
.
🍜 All three meals this time were at the hotel, and the breakfast was also impressive, with authentic pancakes and hot porridge.
🛁 After a whole day of walking, taking a hot bath in the room is really comfortable, and pairing it with a glass of sparkling wine completes the vacation satisfaction.
.
⏰10:00-14:00
📍 Cangqiao Straight Street
Visit Cangqiao Straight Street first to avoid the crowds, the most lively place in Shaoxing. Wander through the alleys, stroll on the stone roads, and then find an authentic Shaoxing restaurant to eat before satisfyingly returning to Hangzhou.
.
Shaoxing is really a city that never tires no matter how many times you visit, with its unique charm in both sunny and rainy weather, worth experiencing on a free weekend.

Shaoxing still keeps its secrets well, with so many fun places to explore!
I've been to Shaoxing many times, and with the subway now open, I go there every month.
I once thought all the fun in Shaoxing was in Yuecheng District.
This time, taking advantage of the new Marriott opening in Shangyu District,
I spent two days and one night touring Shangyu thoroughly.
I must say, there are really a lot of fun and interesting places in Shangyu,
to the extent that 18 pictures are not enough to show them all.

📖Sharing my two-day Shangyu travel guide
Day1️⃣
Depart from Hangzhou ➡️ Head straight to Shangyu Museum ➡️ Walk to Zhongxin Art Museum ➡️ Walk to Xiaode Garden ➡️ Check into Shangyu Marriott Hotel ➡️ Dine at the hotel
Day2️⃣
Hotel breakfast ➡️ Hongyi Park ➡️ Duobao Lecture Temple ➡️ Fenghui Ancient Town ➡️ Baima Chunhui ➡️ Return trip
✅A few spots I think are very 👍🏻
1️⃣Shangyu Museum (reservation on-site)
The museum has two main exhibition halls worth visiting, with a grand and exquisite layout, a dazzling array of porcelain exhibits, and an immersive Liangzhu story exhibition area, offering a rich experience.
2️⃣Zhongxin Art Museum (no reservation needed, enter with ID card)
The most surprising spot of the entire trip, entering the museum is like visiting a Chinese garden, with a view at every step. The collection inside amazed me, with the owner having collected many Ming and Qing dynasty antiques and displaying many exquisite artworks, truly top-notch!
However, it's open for a very short time each day
Only from 8:30 to 11:00 and 12:30 to 15:50
3️⃣Fenghui Ancient Town (free admission)
Although Fenghui Ancient Town is a bit far from Shangyu city area, it's worth a visit. The ancient town is quite original, mostly inhabited by locals, with some local snacks on the streets. It's a bit more lively on weekends and holidays. Those who like Jiangnan water town architecture can go there specifically to check in.

✅About accommodation
This time I stayed at the newly opened Shangyu Marriott Hotel, not far from 'Shaoxing East Station' and 'Shangyu Station'. The design incorporates features of Jiangnan water towns, and the facilities like the gym, yoga room, and swimming pool are spacious and clean.
I booked a basic room on the 9th floor with a great view, including a bathtub, plus a large sofa and a desk.
Marriott's dining is really good, with over 100 breakfast options, and they serve until 10 am. For dinner, I tried their hot pot buffet, with unlimited seafood, freshly sliced beef that was filling, and there was a music performance to watch for 🆓. Additionally, you can have their seafood paella for lunch, which is quite generous!
In terms of details, the swimming pool is clean with a comfortable water temperature, the gym provides towels for sweating, the restaurant service is responsive, and the bathroom has a seat for showering, etc. The stay experience was quite good.

Bonvoy Shangyu Marriott Hotel Hotel Hotel Recommendation

Shaoxing's latest five-star hotel, the literary and artistic Shangyu Marriott
As night falls, a bright moon rises to the window, the bright moonlight spills into the room, the silver light circulates, creating a leisurely atmosphere as if buying a boat to buy wine by the white clouds under the moonlight of Dongting Lake. From then on, because of the Shaoxing Shangyu Marriott Hotel, I have one more reason to like Shaoxing.
The Shaoxing Shangyu Marriott, which opened in September 2023, is the latest five-star hotel in Shaoxing. The hotel extracts design language from Shangyu's historical and cultural features and the geographical form of the thousand-year-old terraces, perfectly blending the 'Yue wind and Yu rhyme' with the quality of international hotels, creating a landmark hotel with the memory of Shaoxing Shangyu.
Whether in the guest rooms or public areas, the hotel provides a visually stunning experience. The room I stayed in had a very spacious view. The window of the bathroom overlooks the artistic architecture with a sense of design, and the window of the room offers a 180-degree luxury view. At night, there is a charming light show outside the window. This is also the first time I have seen a Marriott hotel equipped with a Dyson hairdryer, and the cloakroom is also very spacious and bright.
The design of the hotel's lobby bar and executive lounge is unique, with a sense of fashionable and quiet elegance. Walking in the hotel, you can always see extraordinary artistic aesthetics, as if walking in carefully designed movie scenes. In addition, the hotel's restaurants are also praised for their beauty and taste.
At the Marriott Chinese Restaurant, the cuisine is mainly Cantonese and local Shaoxing dishes. Because Shangyu's seafood consumption and cooking are somewhat similar to Ningbo, the delicious food presented here has a variety of flavors and insists on the freshness of the ingredients themselves. The Gong Kitchen on the first floor is not only a place for buffet breakfast and dinner, but also a Western restaurant that can make European delicacies. In particular, the Western desserts here are stunning, and the tiramisu shaped like a little hedgehog has a taste that cannot be found elsewhere, just like lying in the clouds and eating cotton candy.
The Shengxun Japanese Restaurant, also located on the first floor, offers top-notch enjoyment with its Sukiyaki and Sashimi, which are like the ceiling in Shaoxing. It's not an exaggeration to say that it's worth staying here for two days just for the food. After eating, the hotel also has a sky pool and gym to burn calories. As one of the top 50 new hotels in China in 2023, the Shaoxing Shangyu Marriott Hotel has enough reasons to wait for more people to check in.
