It's hard to summarize in just a sentence or two, as if watching an epic movie that falls short on the smallest details. The Guangzhou Xianglan Guanzhou Hotel, at first sight, is bound to be loved by all, located at the quiet end of an island within the bustling metropolis, surrounded by water on three sides, offering a secluded retreat. The building's exterior resembles a cruise ship ready to set sail, with its natural advantage ensuring that all rooms have a broad view of the river. Stepping into the lobby, the atrium soars with a huge internal space reaching up to the dome, and the rooms are distributed along the oval perimeter on each floor.
The high-altitude infinity pool on the top floor, with its deep and calm waters, mirrors the sky, and its semi-open design is reminiscent of the Park Hyatt Shenzhen. The north-south transparent river breeze passes through, making it a new summer retreat in the city. Additionally, there is an outdoor terrace on the fifth floor, with lush grass perfect for camping.
The common concept of the entire building, including the decor, can be summarized by the word 'harmony.' Everywhere you look, it's hard to find sharp angles; instead, there are curved lines, undulating waves, and circular and oval-shaped furniture. The immediate impression is family-friendly, but upon reflection, it seems to embody the dynamism of water, echoing the island's aquatic landscape.
If Venus de Milo's broken arm makes imperfection beautiful, then this hotel truly understands this concept. Even the suites with their extra-long outdoor balconies and shell-shaped white bathtubs by the window are impressive. However, the overall feel is like a newly decorated home awaiting a thorough cleaning, spotlessly empty and bare with hardly any decor, as if stumbling at the last step. It is recommended that the management team quickly acquire some crystal lamps, glassware, plants, and fluffy toys to embellish the space, especially circular and oval-shaped items.
The treatment for diamond members is generous, with a courtesy call in advance, room upgrade, complimentary welcome drink and fruit, and although the executive lounge feels temporarily put together, and the afternoon tea seems perfunctory, the evening happy hour is quite good. The breakfast the next day is also rich, with a strong Cantonese flavor, featuring rice noodle rolls, shrimp dumplings, and pig's blood soup.
The biggest shortcoming is specific services; the fitness space on the entire floor is almost unattended, with no clean lockers, towels, or slippers in the changing room. Of course, this may be due to the insufficient response to the holiday crowd during the May Day holiday.
