This hotel is very nice if you think about the price to quality ratio. People who work there are ok. The hotel is clean and has a nice restaurant inside that serves many dishes. There was music during the day and the cleaning service did a good job. The only thing that is not on is not about the hotel but about the area - when we get out of the hotel many street and beach vendors aggressively approach us. The hotel is ok so you can go there and rest for even a few weeks but the area is dangerous so stay safe in the hotel. Some of the street vendors are so rude that they are going after you from the beach to the hotel main door where the body guard stops him.

The entire island experiences intermittent power outages. I encountered this about three times a day in both the restaurant and my room, each lasting less than ten seconds before power was restored. Some of the staff, especially a female chef at one of the restaurants (the head chef rotates nightly), showed clear disdain for Asian guests. Upon check-in, a male front desk staff member saw that I only had a small backpack (a tiny summit pack, as my main luggage was left in Kilimanjaro and not brought to Zanzibar). I was already carrying it myself, but he forcibly took it from me, even after I told him it wasn't necessary, clearly trying to earn a tip. Once in the room, he kept making small talk and wouldn't leave, seemingly afraid I wouldn't tip him. I ended up giving him one. When I was checking out, my flight was delayed, so I asked if I could extend my check-out by an hour. The staff confirmed that an extension wasn't possible, but I could still use the hotel's beverage, snack, and other facilities. Since I had an all-inclusive package, I double-checked with a male staff member on the phone and a female staff member at the front desk about getting a drink, given my flight was delayed by three hours (my check-out was at 12 PM, and I hoped to leave around 1 PM). They both said it was fine. So, at 12:30 PM, I had a glass of orange juice by the pool. At 1 PM, as I was leaving the hotel, I was stopped and asked to pay. The staff member who had previously confirmed this with me, along with another server (not the beverage server), debated with me in front of their supervisor. Eventually, the supervisor, James, intervened and told me I could leave. One of the bartenders at the beach bar also displayed discrimination towards Asians, practically fawning over white guests. I sat there for ages, and he ignored me even after I politely asked for the menu twice, pretending not to hear. As soon as a white person sat down, he was instantly there, chatting them up. Overall, I'm dissatisfied with the service. Some staff members' English was poor, leading to communication misunderstandings (and I've studied English for many years and graduated with an English degree). The excessive debating in front of a customer also doesn't reflect good service. There were instances of discrimination and being forced into tipping. The entire service experience was very poor. The beach, however, is excellent, and the hotel's location is good.

In short: a great hotel in Nungwi, close to the ocean and all the essentials. Please read to the end – you might find this helpful, and we're happy to hear it! This was our last (3rd) hotel in Zanzibar, our main goal being a relaxing oceanside getaway. We were happy with our choice. LOCATION. The hotel isn't on the beachfront, but it's about a 5-minute walk to the ocean. Everything you need is nearby – restaurants where you can eat well and watch shows, several different beaches, a souvenir market, and even a liquor store. There's a school and a stadium near the hotel – it's quite interesting to watch the locals. HOTEL. There are two hotels, all owned by the same owner, and you can use the facilities at both. The grounds are small, but cozy, well-maintained, and have everything you need – swimming pools, bars, and restaurants. ROOMS. We chose this hotel largely because of the large family room, which comfortably accommodates four people. Our choice was justified – a two-room suite with a huge loggia offering a beautiful view of the illuminated pools and streets in the evening. Cons: the room is a bit tired and in need of renovation. Auditory-sensitive people may be challenged by the nighttime sounds: roosters crowing, muezzins singing, crows cawing. But this is definitely not a complaint about the hotel. The room is on the 3rd floor, there is no elevator. The room has a ton of lighting and separate lighting zones – it's comfortable and beautiful. STAFF. Above all praise. Everyone is very friendly and helpful with any questions. We even spoke with the hotel owner – a very pleasant man, he helped us resolve a slight delay at check-in and then helped with various other questions. BREAKFAST. Almost perfect by local standards – everything you need is there: made-to-order eggs, sausages/bacon, fresh vegetables, salads, cereal, juices, many types of bread and pastries, fruit, and desserts. The only thing missing is a coffee machine – instant coffee only, but that's the case almost everywhere in Zanzibar. OCEAN. Several beaches nearby, crystal-clear water, no low tides on the western side to interfere with swimming. But there are stunning sunsets – don't miss them! PARKING. We arrived in a rental car and left it in the internal, guarded parking lot until morning. And then there are the CONS. We essentially had only one – despite pre-paying for our family room, they didn't give us our room right away – for some reason, their booking system showed our reservation as two double rooms. It took about an hour to resolve, but then the owner intervened and resolved the issue. Overall, we were satisfied with the room. VERDICT. We recommend the hotel; it's a good choice for the price/quality ratio.

I really enjoyed my stay at Kendwa Rocks Hotel. The beach, the view, and the sunset were absolutely beautiful. My room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were very friendly. It’s the perfect place to relax and have a good time. If I come back to Zanzibar, I’d definitely stay here again.”

This is the third Riu hotel in the area, and having stayed at the previous two, I found this one, which opened in '26, to be a step down overall. The smell of concrete was very strong. They claim to have seven à la carte restaurants (non-buffet), but not all of them were open; in fact, only one was open each day. This wasn't mentioned on their website or on Ctrip. We were only informed at check-in that reservations could only be made for the following day. This means if you're only staying one night, you're stuck with the buffet for all three meals and can't experience any of the all-inclusive à la carte restaurants, despite paying the same per-night rate as those staying longer, which feels very unfair. The large, modern building feels too artificial; I'd rather stay in a more traditional hotel on the island.

Excellent hotel! Location is chic, next to the ocean, there is its own area with cheeslongs, the area is protected. Very convenient location - near the island of Mnemba, to Nungwi half an hour drive, to Matemwe, where many shops, half an hour walking. The rooms are beautiful, clean pasta, air conditioning, hot water in the bathroom 24 hours a day. Food in the restaurant is very delicious, portions are good. Staff is kind. I would like to thank the managers of the Maurice and Munisi hotel for their excellent work and thank you for your excellent holiday!

GGuest UserWe were warmly greeted by the staff at the entrance. I had booked a deluxe room and had arrived early, would have appreciated an early checkin but the room wasn’t ready so meanwhile I explored the resort amenities. It has a private beach with a mini golf area and a bar alongside. The staff is friendly but most of the staff is new, a bit slow but they get you what you need. Maybe that’s how they’re wired, I’m unsure but they were kind. Pictures don’t do enough justice to this property. It’s massive, beautiful interiors with high end quality products. Loved the spa, felt so rejuvenated and I loved their bathing product line, the shower gels, etc. It’s ace quality. Food was good. They had live performance that got everyone on flood. It’s one of the best properties I’ve stayed at.

YYSNgaiThe hotel fell short of 5-star standards due to inconsistent service. Key issues: • Our booked seafront suite was unavailable on the first night due to overbooking (later cited as maintenance), and we were placed in a family house with unused amenities like a kitchen and extra rooms. • Service was lacking: staff were friendly but unhelpful. One left us at the buffet without seating us, and another failed to explain the substitute accommodation’s facilities. Shower gel was missing on the first night. Positives include: • Beautiful seafront suite and restaurant. • Large swimming pool with a scenic view and an enjoyable coached workout session. • Varied breakfast and dinner options. • Manager Maurine was helpful, though she seemed the only one resolving issues. Overall, poor service significantly diminished the experience, falling below 5-star expectations.

GGinge5Tui Blue Bahari is 5*+ There is space, good food, great private beaches, 5 restaurants, friendly staff and a relaxing atmosphere. There were more sunbeds than guests when we stayed and towels are available poolside. There are bars in the garden, by the beach and at the pool, which are all manned with waiters and bar staff who are happy and efficient. The hotel has security and a private beach and the local tour sellers wait at the beach for you to engage. If you walk straight into the sea from the resort you'll find starfish, urchins and Dory fish. The room door we had wouldn't lock with a firm push and a couple times after the cleaners had been it was unlocked. Overall though 9.5/10 I'd recommend for any special occasion, or for those who want to safari in Tanzania, or swim with dolphins in Mnemba.

AAnonymous UserIf you are choosing a place to enjoy your holidays, getting away from crowd and enjoy peaceful moments, it’s definitely a right place for you. Hotel staff is very nice and helpful. Food in hotel restaurant is excellent, they offer different menu for lunch and dinner. Verify options for breakfast buffet, you will never feel bored for their food. Hotel offers yoga class on the morning daily except Sunday. Family or solo can also start with a “ Good morning “. There is a swimming pool, small gym room, different ball games for visitors to chill. Hotel is also connected with different Partners, no need to worry about the day trip prior arrival. They can plan everything for you including stone town visit, prison island , snorkelling. We just enjoy our time during our stay.
