Fun and inexpensive Bohol Island in the Philippines — traveler post in Anda

Fun and inexpensive Bohol Island in the Philippines

The most popular travel destination in the Philippines, Boracay, which is occupied by tourists, is not my first choice. I like a small tourist island with a low commercial atmosphere. Bohol Island is definitely worth the fare, small crowd, few people, cheap, fun, treasure island! Bohol Island eats, travels, plays, and dives, it meets all your fantasies about the island! Avoid the densely packed tourists, and you will not regret choosing Bohol! 1️⃣The scenery of Bohol Island is more primitive and natural. 2️⃣There are not many tourists. 3️⃣The key point is that it's very cheap!!! Renting a motorcycle for one day costs 320 pesos, which is just over 200 RMB. You can stay in a unique hotel and eat at Island's popular restaurants with the money you would spend on McDonald's in Boracay. Boracay Island is relatively large in area, and it takes basically one day to explore the small area of Long Beach Island... But to be honest, the proper way to open up the Philippines is to ride a motorcycle around Boracay Island for two days, stop and admire the scenery along the way, go out to sea to see whales and sharks, and experience the feeling of riding a motorcycle on the island~ 1. Cabagnow cave - a cave with a Mexican vibe From Alona Island, it takes 2-3 hours to reach a very exotic cave. Surrounded by palm trees 🌴, jumping into the clear water on a hot summer day is super refreshing. Not many people know about this place, and if you're lucky enough to have it all to yourself, it feels like you're the owner of a forest! Ticket: None 2. Hinagdanan Cave Limestone Cave Departing from Alona Island, it takes more than 30 minutes to reach a rock cave that locals love to swim in. Swimming in the cave is definitely a new experience. Ticket: Swimming 50 pesos/person, Swimming 125 pesos/person, Motorcycle parking fee 5 pesos. 3. Camugao Waterfall Departing from Alona on Mint Island, it takes 40 minutes to reach this little-known and off-the-beaten-path attraction. Often, one can play under the waterfall for half a day before encountering other people, making it absolutely private and unique. It's a hidden gem! Ticket: 25p (almost like it's free) 4. Balicasag Island From Alona Island, it takes 40 minutes to reach this popular attraction, which has been rated as one of the world's top diving spots. There are many people here, and you can choose from scuba diving, free diving, and snorkeling. I chose scuba diving, and it was definitely worth the money. The sea floor is clear and I even encountered several large sea turtles and the famous Jack Storm. It truly deserves its reputation as a world-famous diving spot. If you want to dive in Balicasag, you need to book with a diving shop. I chose a local diving shop called Heatwave Diving, which includes lunch. To travel on Bohol Island, you need a motorcycle as many places are not accessible by walking, including many restaurants scattered throughout different districts. For example, the first internet-famous restaurant, Mist Restaurant (Mist), is a 5-minute ride from Alona. We recommend trying the flame chicken at Mist Restaurant, which is absolutely authentic.👍

Discovering Anda Beach in Bohol: A Little Boracay — traveler post in Anda

Discovering Anda Beach in Bohol: A Little Boracay

#summerbeachnights If you’re looking for a beautiful beach in Bohol that is less crowded and more peaceful, Anda Beach is definitely worth visiting. With its white sand, clear blue water, and relaxing atmosphere, it feels like a little Boracay but without the big crowds. What I love most about Anda Beach is how peaceful and natural it feels. You can enjoy the beautiful view, walk along the shore, swim in the clear water, and simply relax without feeling surrounded by too many tourists. It may not be as famous as Boracay, but that is part of its charm. Anda Beach is a perfect destination for anyone who wants to escape the busy beaches and enjoy a quiet tropical paradise. Have you ever been to Anda Beach? Do you think it deserves to be called a “Little Boracay”?

The coconut grove path is the best choice for a stroll 🌴 — traveler post in Anda

The coconut grove path is the best choice for a stroll 🌴

I thought Phuket was beautiful enough, until I went to Bohol! It's not that Phuket isn't beautiful, it's that Bohol wins with its "less crowded, more natural scenery." There are no crowded long-tail boats, no noisy bar streets, just the Chocolate Hills, tarsiers, and jelly-colored sea—Bohol in the Philippines is truly seriously underrated. ⛰️ Chocolate Hills | Chocolate in the dry season, matcha in the rainy season A filming location for the movie *Harry Potter*, the 1268 cone-shaped hills turn chocolate brown during the dry season (November-May) and a vibrant green like matcha pudding during the rainy season. Reaching the top of the viewpoint will truly elicit a gasp—they are like the earth's breasts, silently nourishing the entire island. 🐒 Tarsiers | The smallest monkeys on Earth The national treasure of the Philippines, their eyes are heavier than their brains. During the day, they curl up into fur balls to sleep, occasionally opening one large eye to look at you, then slowly turning back to continue sleeping. The guides at the reserve will point out which cluster of monkeys is on the branches—finding them requires a bit of keen eyesight, but the moment you see them is absolutely worth it. 🐠 Balicasag Island | Jackfish Storm and Swimming with Turtles This is a diver's paradise, about a 30-minute boat ride from Alona Beach. Snorkeling will allow you to see turtles eating seaweed right beneath your feet, and scuba diving offers the chance to encounter jackfish storms (whirlpools of fish). Remember to wear a rash guard for sun protection and protection against coral scratches. 🌿 Loboc River | Paddle into the Depths of the Rainforest Take a traditional-style flat-bottomed boat and cruise upstream, with dense tropical rainforest on both banks. Occasionally, you'll see children jumping from the trees into the water to play. A buffet lunch is served on board: fried chicken, grilled fish, and white rice. The food is ordinary, but the atmosphere is fantastic. A guitarist plays Filipino folk songs, and you'll feel completely relaxed and soothed by the greenery. 🛕 Baclayon Church | Spain in the Rocks One of the oldest stone churches in the Philippines, its exterior walls are bonded together with coral and egg white, standing strong for centuries. The museum next to the church displays icons and bishops' robes; time seems to slow down here. 🌊 Alona Beach | Great Value Beach Life Bohol's liveliest beach (but much quieter than Phuket). Many outrigger boats can be chartered for snorkeling, island hopping, and dolphin watching. At night, the beach transforms into a barbecue night market, with grilled squid, pork skewers, and ice-cold beer—you can eat your fill for around 50 yuan per person. 🦞 Seafood Frenzy You must go to the east coast of the island (Anda area) for lobster; the prices are unbelievably cheap. A single lobster can weigh over a pound, grilled or steamed with garlic—sweet, fresh, and bouncy. There are also mantis shrimp as thick as your arm, freshly opened coconuts, and crabs bigger than your face—not expensive restaurants, but family-run kitchens by the sea, where you can eat under bamboo sheds with the sand right below you. 📍Useful Tips · Transportation: Fly from your home country to Manila or Cebu, then transfer to Tagbilaran Airport on Bohol; or fly to Cebu and take a 2-hour boat ride to Bohol. · Best Season: December-May (dry season), avoid June-November (rainy season, high waves and some island hopping flights suspended). · Currency: Philippine Peso. ATMs are limited on the island, so it's recommended to exchange currency beforehand at the airport or in the city. · Sockets: American two-prong flat plugs. Some hotels have universal sockets, but it's advisable to bring your own adapter. · Alona Beach: The most convenient but very commercialized. For a quieter experience, consider Doljo Beach or the Anda area. · Suggested Itinerary: 4-5 days, 2 days for land excursions (Chocolate Hills + Tarsiers + Loboc River), 2 days for island hopping (Balicasa + Virgin Island). · Sun Protection: The tropical sun is strong, so be sure to bring SPF50+ sunscreen, sunglasses, and physical sun protection clothing. The Philippines has many islands, but Bohol is the one that will make you want to stay. It lacks the sophistication of Phuket, but possesses a wild sincerity; it lacks the artistic flair of Bali, but has a primal vitality. If you're tired of crowded islands, come here. It will make you fall in love with the sea again. 🐚🌊

Where in the Philippines is the Sand Like Powder and Cats Love Bananas? — traveler post in Anda

Where in the Philippines is the Sand Like Powder and Cats Love Bananas?

If Panglao is a loud party, Anda is a meditation to the whispering waves. This spot on the eastern coast of Bohol island is for those seeking "the real Philippines," the way it was before Instagram tours and chain hotels. Time flows differently here, and the sand is so white and fine it feels like you're walking on a cloud. Let's uncover this secret hideaway before everyone else finds out about it. 🏝️ The Coast of Infinity: Anda's Beaches and Caves Anda is a three-hour drive from Tagbilaran that separates you from the hustle and transports you into a world of wild beaches, mystical caves, and crystal-clear silence. It's a place for those willing to trade nightclubs for starry skies and a bonfire by the water's edge. Quinale Beach: Powdered sugar and calm waters. Anda's main beach is a wide, blindingly white strip stretching for miles. You won’t find pushy vendors or rows of sun loungers here. Just you, lazily leaning palm trees, and water so transparently turquoise it seems surreal. Cave Pools: A leap into the azure abyss. Anda is famous for its "cenotes"—natural sinkholes in the limestone. Cabagnow Cave Pool: For the brave. Leap into a deep blue bowl from a height of several meters (there's a ladder to climb back up). The water is so crystal clear it looks like there's no bottom. Combento Cave Pool: A cozy alternative where you can soak in the coolness while admiring the cave vaults. The Mystique of Lamanoc Island. A place of ancient legends. A small boat rides you through the mangroves to a rocky island where ochre rock paintings (red handprints) and burial caves are preserved. You can feel a primal energy here—it seems the island's spirits are still watching guests from the shadows of the rocks. 🌿 Into the Heart of the Island: Emerald Candijay If you've made it to Anda, don't stop there. Just an hour's drive away, in the Candijay area, lies Bohol in miniature, but without the crowds and tour buses. Cadapdapan Rice Terraces. Endless tiers of vibrant green rice cascading down the hillsides. Tip: Climb a little higher to see the ocean peeking out from behind the hills in the distance. It’s the ultimate view for meditation in motion. Can-Umantad Falls: The silver giant. The island's tallest waterfall cascades down like a sheer curtain into a turquoise basin. You must take a dip at its base—it's the absolute best way to wash off the road dust and fatigue. 🍌 Soulfulness Money Can't Buy This part of Bohol is all about the people. Here, luxury isn't measured in hotel stars, but by the warmth of your guesthouse host's smile. In the local homestays, you're welcomed like family: in the evening, they'll ask about your adventures, and in the morning, they'll bake you that banana bread. Picture this: warm, moist, with a caramelized crust and the aroma of ripe bananas. It’s the taste of home, even if home is thousands of miles away. 🐈 Bobtail Cats: Fluffy Pastry Fans This is home to the funniest cats in the Philippines—sporting short, curly tails. These little tricksters have a superpower: they are absolutely obsessed with banana bread! The moment you cut a slice, these fluffy food critics will emerge from the bushes and give you the ultimate puppy-dog (or rather, kitty-cat) eyes until you share a crumb. 🚲 Getting There The Route: Buses run from Tagbilaran (about a 3-hour trip). The journey is incredibly scenic: winding through rice paddies and past ancient little churches. In Anda, you aren't just a tourist; you're a guest who has been let in on a well-kept secret. If you're planning a trip to Bohol, save Anda for dessert. It is entirely worth it.

Chocolate Hills

Chocolate Hills is one of the Philippines’ most iconic natural wonders, famous for its uniquely shaped hills that turn chocolate brown in the dry season. Well-maintained, it’s a must-visit for foreign travelers seeking breathtaking and unforgettable scenery in Bohol.

Combento Cave

Something to see, but nothing more, almost no water. Living in Haute-Savoie, we were a little tired there. A truly naive place. Bathing in a natural cellar with stalactites, translucent water and a slightly salty taste is an experience! (Because of its small size and less known than others, we could easily stay alone in it;)

Alona Beach

This beach is beautiful and has a lot of nice places to eat. It is good for a sunrise and sunset. White sand and the water is clean to swim in.
