When booking accommodation and experience combos for the Western Sichuan Grand Loop, I always take a closer look at the fine print: where you'll be dropped off after the experience. "Includes transfers" on the page sounds convenient, but being dropped off at the meeting point, back at your original hotel, or at your next night's accommodation are three very different things. Whether a low price actually saves you money often depends on this missing piece of information. When you see an appealing combo, don't rush to book it. Compare your accommodation for that night with where you plan to go the next day. For example, if you're staying in Xinduqiao and want to visit Tagong Grassland, the real questions are: which shop do you depart from, where does the experience take place, and where do you return to afterward? These two places might be part of the same itinerary, but just because the product description says "near Xinduqiao," it doesn't mean it's as simple as walking downstairs to meet up and returning to your room when you're done. Next, ask for a specific address regarding the "transfer coverage." You can message the provider directly: "I'm staying here; can you drop me off at this location after the experience? If you can only return to the meeting point, how do I get to my next stop, and who pays for it?" If the answer is still just "anywhere nearby," you haven't done the math yet. Having a clear agreement in the payment page or booking details is much more reliable than a vague "we'll arrange it then" in a chat. Only then is it worth comparing the combo price. If the experience ends back in Xinduqiao and you're staying there the next night, the return trip is something you'd need anyway, so buying it as a package might be a good deal. But if you need to keep moving forward after the experience, yet have to ride back to the original spot to get your luggage before setting off again, that "cheap" combo just added an unnecessary detour. Buying the experience separately might look more expensive, but it could make your day go more smoothly. The key is to compare based on the same transfer conditions. 🧳 Luggage is especially easy to overlook. On the day you change hotels, ask clearly if it can be brought on the vehicle and where you can pick it up afterward. Also, check if the room must be used on the same day as the experience. To use one night of a package, you might end up changing your accommodation last minute, returning to pick up your suitcase, and finding another ride to continue your journey—all of these costs should be factored in before you pay, rather than just focusing on how much the package saves you. As for the Tagong Grassland experience, I'll check the actual meeting location and what's included. "Grassland experience" doesn't necessarily mean it includes the places you want to stay or the activities you want to do. Match up the activity names, drop-off points, and any extra charges, then see if modifying or canceling one part will affect the entire combo. You don't have to rule out all inexpensive packages. If the accommodation is just right, the experience is something you want to do, and the drop-off point is exactly where you need to be, it's worth considering. If you have to go out of your way for a "free" bonus item, I'd rather buy less and save my time for the places I really want to see.

I visited Silver City last September. I originally planned just to transfer through Jingtai, but ended up staying 3 days in Tongcheng—Yellow River Stone Forest, Gobi Turtle City, red Huining, and industrial mining pits are all packed into one prefecture-level city. There are so few people that you can park anywhere in the scenic area, and prices are still stuck at 5 years ago😮💨 But if you go in July or August, you really have to pick your timing carefully. The Gobi can cause sunburn by noon. A significant red tourism and study site. Closed on Mondays, so don’t go on that day. About 2 hours from Baiyin city, only go if it fits your route; it’s a bit far out. ⛏️ Flame Mountain National Mining Park (Baiyin District | free) The open-pit mine and old mining equipment of “China’s copper city.” Industrial style perfect for photos. The museum tells the story of the copper city’s struggle (also closed on Mondays). Taxi from the city costs under ¥8. You can finish in 1.5 hours, perfect combined with the city museum. 🌾 Shuichuan Yellow River Wetland Park (Shuichuan Town, Baiyin District | free) Reeds and lotus boardwalks along the Yellow River bank. Lush green in summer, swans during migratory season (October–March). Bus 31 from the city takes about 30 minutes. Evening strolls relieve Gobi visual fatigue. On the way, stop at Huacun Gujiashan (white walls, black tiles, a little Jiangnan) for a bowl of tea. If short on time, prioritize: Stone Forest > Turtle City > Mining Park > Shuichuan. Old shops around Gongnong Road in Baiyin District and near the international city in Jingyuan County are the best, about ¥60–80 per person. Avoid the row near the high-speed rail station; go into the alleys of the old residential area. 🥘 Sour stewed meat: pickled cabbage braised pork belly with white noodles, a unique sour and spicy dish from the Loess Plateau, perfect with rice. M77***27Lanzhou Danxia Geological Park is fabulous. One of the top three things I have done on this tour. I used Trip.com to get out to the park and that was very easy. Shuttle buses are necessary to get between the various vantage points. I would come for longer next time and do the zip line. I got an 8am bus from Xiaoxihu Subway Station and it leaves the Park at 12pm to return back to the city.

Standing on the viewing platform, you can see terraced fields stretching out, with yellow rapeseed flowers and green barley, set against the backdrop of shimmering snow-capped peaks in the distance—every snapshot is wallpaper-worthy. The air is filled with the scent of grass and cooking smoke, and yaks graze leisurely. It's so relaxing, you won't want to leave!
