Pingjiang

Pingjiang County is located in northeastern Hunan Province where the Mi and Luo rivers flow before they join to form the Miluo River. The county is under the administration of Yueyang City, Hunan. Pingjiang County is one of the centers of the modern Hunan agrarian movement and was where the Pingjiang Uprising began. The Shiniuzhai National Geological Park is in Shiniuzhai Town and comprises a mainly danxia (red rock cliff landform unique to China) landscape of interesting boulders, mysterious peaks, and rock caves. The well-preserved ancient city wall here is a particularly rare find. Here you can also visit the tomb of famous poet Du Fu (712-770) and the Fushou Mountain - Miluo River National Level Scenic Area.
