The room felt small and cluttered. There were no accessible rooms so my husband couldn't use the shower. The ceiling was in need of repair and the room smelled of mildew.

The front desk staff was wonderful. The only complaint I have is that the pillows hurt my neck. Everything else was great. The toll bridge was very slow, which doesn't reflect the hotel.

GGuest UserThis was my second stay and, overall, another good one. First I,d like to say thank you for something you may not be aware of, my pillow. I have neck problems so when I find a good one that fits the way I need I take it with me. Unfortunately I left it in the room. I called the front desk that afternoon to hopefully get it back, having my daughter-in-law pick it up as she and my son and grandkids live close by. The clerk was very courteous and said it was likely in laundry but couldn't leave the front desk to check. He graciously said he would leave a note and someone could pick it up the next morning. My daughter-in-law did just that. This is a budget no-frills hotel in a safe location. My son and his family live probably less than 2 miles from there so I am very familiar with the area in southeast Huntsville. I can't think of anything you can't get nearby as all the big box stores, numerous gas stations, restaurants, and a few small bars, etc are a stones throw away. As someone that used to travel with work with plenty of weekly and monthly motel stays I know how important convenience and room costs can be. There are cheaper motels nearby but I don't recommend them due to location(safety) and poor past experience as well as inconvenience due to traffic on 72. VIP has a restaurant on one side and a small bar on the other, both just across the parking lots. There are plenty of others within safe and easy walking distance. The room: I'm a smoker and booked a smoking room. Those aren't easy to find anymore. That said, there were signs of it if you looked. Nothing to fault VIP for as I put that on previous guests and the room, at least to me, didn't smell like it. The most important parts, counters, tub, toilet, bedding, etc were clean but the floor, TV remote, and spaces you could only see when sitting down or looking under something could use some attention. There was an issue with the TV box where every time I turned it on to watch I had to unplug the box and plug it back in to get it to wake up. The water was just warm enough for a shower but never any hot water for my preference even after letting it run 3-5 minutes prior. Stayed warm for a long shower but forget about a hot bath. The drain was slow like it needed cleaning out. Not so slow that the shower didn't drain fast enough but slow enough that any water straight from the tub faucet would fill it faster than it could drain. Likely needed cleaning out. Not a housekeeping issue but more a maintenance issue since the ”hair catcher” or whatever you call it would need to be removed. The towels would make good loofahs for exfoliating. A little fabric softener would be a plus. The pillows were flat. Something to address for the next updates. The floors are vinyl, much preferred over nasty carpet that always keeps something for itself even after a thorough vacuuming. The door needs a new weather ***** and/or threshold as I did have one unwelcome guest slip under it. Not the kind you'd have to worry about living there though and I simply evicted him with a flush. I give VIP 4 out of 5 stars. I'm a realist and I know that keeping everything perfect isn't cost effective and could easily increase room rates but I also know that some of the small details would simply take a little more time and attention. I try to be thorough not just for potential guests but also for owners, management, and staff are fully aware of any issues, grievances, or thumbs up. I would definitely stay again.

GGuest UserThe hotel was clean and in a great location for the reason I was in Birmingham. It was near to the event that I was attending. The sink in my room had a stopper that prevented the water from escaping when I did not want it to collect in the sink during activities such as brushing my teeth and washing my face. The water was also cold and took an excessively long time to heat up even a little bit. It was not even lukewarm. Therefore, I checked out and was unable to shower. My son actually took a cold shower on a cold day, one of the coldest that we have had in Alabama in a while. I was also awakened by an emergency message and alarm to vacate the building due to an emergency only to learn later that it was a test. I learned this when the fire truck arrived and I heard an employee apologizing for not calling them to let them know that it was only a test. I only stayed overnight so there was no other opportunity for me to get a better impression. The only reason that I did not give a lower rating for the facilities is because once I reported the issue with the shower and sink, they sent a handy man to the room to make the repairs, but my son was already taking a cold shower at the time since we were scheduled to get back home to meet previously scheduled obligations. The staff person who was checking me out said that she couldn't do anything for me because I booked through a third party. However, she did state that she would refund the money that I paid for parking.

GGuest UserThe hotel was amazing and you only had to cross one street to be directly at the beach’s entrance. The breakfast selection was a bit lacking (think cereal, oatmeal, and muffins) but was sufficient enough to fuel the day. The floor of my room was very grainy with sand but that’s to be expected as a beach hotel. Housekeeping was excellent about providing requested sheets, towels and toilet paper in a timely manner. One inconvenience that feels worth mentioning is that their was only one easily accessible plug close to appliances so we could not have the fridge, microwave and tv plugged in at once, however this was not a problem in other trip-goers rooms so perhaps this is just a single room problem. There are a few of outdoor seating spaces that provided a great relaxation spot. The photos below are some of the photos taken of the view from the hotels staircase. The pool was a great escape and a great place to bring kids when the beach is not possible. This hotel was also extremely understanding and accommodating for a child with limited movement ability. If you are not looking for anything too fancy but a decent place to stay while in Gulf Shores, this is definitely a spot that I would recommend.

GGuest UserUpon arrival, the lobby with the fireplace makes a very warm and pleasant impression. The hotel room is very neat and very clean. Room is in pleasant, bright colors. Pictures complete the good first impression. Some things make a very high-quality impression, for example the faucet in the bathroom. I missed a USB plug, which is more and more often placed in lamps or next to the bed to charge the cell phone. The only, but big point of criticism was the breakfast. I looked for coffee cups in vain. I had to ask the staff twice until it was noticed that the disposable cups were used up. Coffee very good. The selection is not very large, comparably much less than in comparable hotels. The orange juice was very negative, probably a cheap product, also with an aftertaste. After it is now common, there are no hot, instead only ”warm” scrambled eggs. Only these were not even warm, in the spectrum between warm and cold rather cold to be counted and therefore hardly to be enjoyed. Since the breakfast can not be rated separately, I have to think about what my rating should be. Because certainly hotel guests without breakfast are well accommodated here.

AAnonymous UserWe wanted to stay in Irondale rather than Birmingham and although this property didn't have great or CURRENT reviews, the description said that it was renovated in 2024 and no other property had a better review. It was indeed updated in some areas and our room was very nicely appointed with new upholstery and modern furniture but it was not clean. There was a layer of dust (construction?) on EVERYTHING and long, dark hairs on the bathroom floor. The window glass was filthy. The freezer was so in need of defrosting that the door would not shut and we were unable to refreeze our flat ice packs. I would guess that no one has stayed in the room since the renovation and the room had not received a post-construction cleaning. The elevator was very dirty, noisy, and a bit scary to ride to the 4th floor. The regular clientele is obviously traveling construction workers. Staff was very friendly but unprofessional.

GGuest UserAfter reading several positive online reviews about this Comfort Inn, I decided to try it out. I was on my way to our home in Florida and broke up the 12 hour drive with a halfway point stop for the night. The staff was helpful and pleasant both upon arrival and check-out. My room was clean and everything worked (tub drained well, refrigerator was cold, room temperature controls were responsive, etc.). I felt safe in the area which was also convenient to shopping and restaurants. Their well-stocked breakfast was a nice surprise! It was available in their clean, bright and spacious area and the eggs/sausage were hot and delicious. There were several other options as well that would easily accommodate a hungry family. This will now be my go-to hotel in the future along I-65!

GGuest UserThe hotel is nice. Not as nice as I thought it would be but its clean. The bathroom could use some updates and some new tile grouting around the tub. But not a bad or gross place. The AC was broken. The chillers were up and down, and no matter what I tried the room temp was getting hotter by the min. When I first checked in the room was 70° F. I set the AC at 67 and 20 min later it was 72°. A few others in the hotel told be they had to be moved to a new room. I did not stay they night, I left at 9pm. Too hot and humid. The staff was amazing and super helpful and understanding. The lady at the front desk deserves a raise. Because the staff was awesome I would consider trying the location again. (After they get the AC fixed)
