Located around 30 km (20 miles) away from Amsterdam is a springtime hub that everyone should experience at least once. We are, of course, talking about the vast explosion of floral colour that is the Keukenhof. With around 7 million flower bulbs planted annually, this garden - widely acknowledged as one of the most beautiful in the world - is perhaps the very definition of a perfect spring destination.

Open annually between March and May, the Keukenhof is not just a huge mass of tulips - while you're there, you can take a whisper boat, rent a bike, or take a guided tour to really experience the 'Garden of Europe'. The quintessential springtime destination.

Need a hotel to stay at? We assume you'll want to stay in Amsterdam - the highly-rated Olympic Hotel offers 4-star facilities at a fantastic price, and it's location in the south of the city means easy access to the main road to Keukenhof and the city proper.

Slovenia is fast becoming recognised as a wonderful weekend getaway for European visitors - and with its small (but perfectly formed) size, which is liberally laced with lakes, forests, and mountains, it's very easy to understand the appeal.

Spring is a particularly pleasant time to visit Slovenia, with the frosts melting and the lush landscape on show to truly emphasize its beauty. Capital city Ljubljana offers striking vistas and stunning historical architecture, with the Instagram-famous site Lake Bled is only a short hop away too. Also, if you fancy a springtime road trip to other European beauty spots, Italy and Austria are both short drives away…

Want to stay in one of Europe's prettiest cities? The 4-star Grand Hotel Union is located right in the centre of Slovenia's capital.

We love the sprawling metropolis of London - but sometimes a getaway is in order. A mere 45-minute train journey from the Big Smoke - and a half-hour drive from Gatwick Airport - lies the Surrey Hills, a National Park and Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that will serve as a timely reminder of how pretty springtime in England is.

To get here from the capital, take a train to Dorking from London Waterloo or swap at Guildford to get to Chilworth. From there, there are numerous hikes across the rolling Surrey countryside that will be a (literal) breath of fresh air on a sunny spring day. Fun fact: the local roads hosted London 2012's cycling road race.

Staying in London? You'll want to find Waterloo station accessible here, and we can think of no better option than the Park Plaza County Hall London - it's wonderful, and also 600m (0.3 miles) away. Should you want your countryside romp to include a hotel, Denbies Vineyard Hotel is close to Box Hill, one of the main landmarks of the Surrey Hills.

Could there be a finer example of a place to visit in spring than the iconic venetian lagoon? A historical heavyweight, the city on water has been around for aeons, and is an absolute must for any intrepid traveller (especially if you intend on bringing a loved one).

While you'll undoubtedly be enamoured with the local food, architecture (like St Mark's Basilica) and beaches, we're fairly sure you'll want to spend a warm spring day on a gondola. Meandering down the Canale Grande, under the Bridge of Sighs, or to some of tiny islets that make up the city is the perfect spring activity, if you ask us.

If you need ideas for a place to stay in Venice, we got you covered. If you want full 5-star luxury, we can scarcely rate the stunning Bauer Palazzo in the centre more highly. Alternatively, Hotel Mercurio is a 3-star hotel that is extremely highly rated by our users.

Forget about Oktoberfest - for now, at least. If you want to avoid the crowds and experience a wonderful place to visit when spring starts, Munich is a great place to visit. Immerse yourself in Bavarian brilliance and enjoy a sausage and Maibock among some of the stunning floral blooms among the city's parks.

Munich is pretty chilly during winter, but it warms up quickly as the rainier months of summer approach - tap on your weather app before packing, because spring is probably the nicest time to visit this German gem of a city. In short, if you want gardens (including beer gardens), flowers and pretty buildings - and who doesn't? - spring in Munich is a great idea.

Where to stay? You will struggle to do far better than the 4-star Munich Marriott Hotel, praised by our users for amenities, location and cleanliness.

If you're flying into Las Vegas (or Los Angeles, for that matter), you'll find spring is probably the best time to visit - the weather is a little less fierce, and it will probably be slightly cheaper. And if you do intend to visit the USA's south-west, a road trip is practically obligatory.

Anyway, if you're staying in Vegas, LA or elsewhere in the south-west USA, rent a car and drive to the Nevada/California border and visit the stunning shores of Lake Tahoe. All the shores offer stunning natural backdrops, and the vistas cooler climate will offer a respite from Sin City's heat and casinos. Make your spring trip a proper adventure, eh?

Should you want to stay near Lake Tahoe, we recommend Harveys Lake Tahoe Hotel & Casino or Holiday Inn Express South Lake Tahoe, an IHG Hotel - your choices are pretty extensive. If you're flying to Vegas and planning a grand trip, check out the wide range of hotels we have there, too.

A bit of a cheat, this one - we believe Barcelona is a great place to visit all year around. But with summer seeing the holidays and highest temperatures, spring in Barcelona is always a good idea. Sant Jordi’s Day in April, The Night of the Museums in May, Sagrada Familia at any time. It's fair to say we love this city.

Spring break is a popular theme amongst Barcelona visitors, so you won't be unique in your idea to hit Catalonia - but when did that ever matter, really? Otherwise, the well-prepared will plan their spring trip to Barca to coincide with (the aptly named) Primavera Sound, or Sónar, with both festivals taking place in June. Two of Europe's most popular and most highly venerated music festivals just as summer hits sounds good to us.

In terms of hotels, we recommend the 4-star, 142-room Royal Passeig de Gracia for its beauty and location, just a short hop from Gran Via and the Gothic Quarter. Prefer the hostel experience? Sant Jordi Hostels Rock Palace is loved by our users, and is hugely affordable too…

Budapest is truly a treasure - a 'must-visit' in central Europe due to its spas, parks, classical architecture and exceptional food and craft beers. That really should be enough to sell it, but we shall continue…

Spring in Budapest is arguably the very best of all the seasons to visit - as the temperature rapidly rises from winter to summer, cherry blossom tumbles from the abundant trees. For the ramblers and amateur mountaineers, the yawning vistas from the heights of the Budda Hills make for incredible hikes. Perhaps best of all though, Budapest Spring Festival - which typically runs throughout April - sees a whole mass of cultural events taking place across the city on either side of the Danube.

Spring in Budapest sounding irresistible? We thought so. Arcadia Hotel Budapest - located literally next to the famous István Örkény Theatre - is just one hotel that we're sure you'll be delighted with.
