It is alright, but not great - certainly it is worn around the edges. It is the first place I stayed in during my 3 week holiday with no fridge... So much for the by now warm riggers of beer I bought at breweries en route. The service was never with any kind of smile. The food in their restaurant was adequate and the beer was, to my taste, bland and unexciting. Staying here is not a disaster, but nor is it memorable. For the amount they must make (the room was not inexpensive) they could and should do better. But I guess it is a captive market in season, and ”just about good enough” is all they need to bother with.
The room was nice and cosy with great in-room facilities and essentials (e.g. kitchen and cutlery stuff). Lots of choices for coffee and tea. Located right at the center of everything :) no air-con in the room but it didn’t matter as the weather was alright even in the peak summer season.
Got in late and left early. Met by the very friendly owner and shown to my room and the features were well explained.
The room was spacious, clean, well appointed and the bed very comfortable.
In spite of the motel being on the main road and me being in the room closest to the road I noticed little or no traffic noise.
Location was decent for a small town, with a mini mart nearby and several dining options around.
The staff were very nice and friendly. One of my family members wasn’t sure how to use the heated blanket, so they didn’t take it out, which made it look like the room wasn’t used. The next day, the staff actually called to check if we were okay, as they were concerned we might have caught a cold from not using the heated blanket. I thought that was a really thoughtful gesture.

We arrived around 9pm ish and the property was quite dark. The reception desk had a note stick on the door indicating our room assignment. We had booked 2 rooms, but unfortunately, both had bugs (moths) in them.
Since we arrived late, there were no open stores or restaurants nearby, not even a convenience store. We found a nearby bar online that was advertised as being open until 1am, but when we called, they informed us they were closing early due to a quiet night. However, they were kind and prepared some chips, samosas and spring rolls for us, which we appreciated as it was our only option for dinner.
For future guests arriving late, I highly recommend advising them to purchase food in advance.
The host is friendly and let us check in a but earlier than the claimed check in time. The room was clean and tidy with a big tv which I can watch netflix with. I will come here again if I visit the glacier again.
This motel was a real surprise. It can be regarded as the most cost-effective accommodation during this trip to New Zealand. FJ town is very small. The motel is not far from anywhere on foot. It is basically within 10 minutes to the supermarket and restaurant area. The room is very large. The studio apartment even provides a suite with two large beds. The sanitation is very clean. The kitchenware and various supplies are the most complete in this trip, and there is even an electric rice cooker. The configuration has exceeded the level of ordinary motels, and four capsule coffees are provided every day~ I didn’t succeed in glacier hiking this time, and I will definitely choose this one next time~
A beautiful area just outside of Franz Josef. It's nearby the road, so you may get some traffic noise. Other than that, it was a quiet and restful night there. We could see the milky way at night!
We had a studio, so no kitchen but a microwave was available. There's a laundry as well. Wifi was good.
The manager was very friendly and allowed us to fill out campervan with water.
Very nice staff, everything was perfect. Breakfast could be better but quite standard in NZ.
Very Good

MMichelle CW ChaiWe were greeted with warm hospitality by the owner Angela when we arrived to check into Franz Josef Oasis.
The executive king suite room was clean, cosy and spacious. We enjoyed sitting on the sofas with warm blankets place for our comfort near the fireplace.
The location of this place is also good as it 5 minutes drive to the town where we had a delicious dinner at Blue Ice Restaurant and Bar which was recommended to us by Angela.
The service is excellent and I will definitely recommend this place to those who are travelling to Franz Josef !
GGuest UserOverall the stay was great in a great location. However they don't provide toiletries, so you have to bring your own or buy from the supermarket. The room is no air conditioning in the room so if it gets hot you can only depend on opening the balcony door, and there is an old style wall heater.

GGuest UserGiven 1 for amenities as the bed was too soft and the shower was very weak and the temperature gauge was very tricky. Needed to be a plumber to set the optimum temperature.
The fridge did not work. the temperature gauge button was broken
GGuest UserYou can see the glacier right from this hotel! We walked out and the glacier was right there. The staff is excellent and the ambience is perfect.
GGuest UserWe had been advised by a relative that this hotel on the beach was worth staying at. We had a deluxe room up on the hill across the main road so we were not actually on the beach. However the view of the ocean was fantastic particularly in the stormy weather. Due to the weather we had to drive down to the restaurant for breakfast. Restaurant fully booked out by tour groups for dinner but the tavern about 1.5km down the road saw us right for a meal. The complex seemed to have several different standards of rooms and I think ours was the best.
HHUACHIHWe came here to stay by train. Although the motel is not very new, it has everything. There are supermarkets and daily necessities stores at the foot of the mountain. It takes about ten minutes to walk there. When the sidewalk is about to disappear, there is a trail connecting it in a hidden place, and you can walk to the parking lot of the grocery store.
The hotel can pick you up at the train station, which is actually very suitable for people like us who have big luggage from overseas and don’t have a car. recommend
