I'm originally from Kendal, but now live overseas. I stayed here to visit family locally and thought I'd treat myself to a nice hotel after not being back for several years. This place was NOT a treat.
On checking in, the reception staff member asked me to pay for my stay (obviously I'd already prepaid on trip.com). When I pointed this out, she became quite rude.
We were put in the room right next to the office, and we could hear the staff chatting at all hours. The noise in the corridor from other guests woke us up several times during the night (despite the âQuietâ signage). There was a fire alarm at 6am the next morning. Everyone had to evacuate for a good 45 mins in the rain while we waited for the fire brigade...not even an offer of a free breakfast or coffee or anything afterwards.
There's no air con in the rooms, they're really small, the bathroom is tiny and there's not a lot of room to put your stuff. The Ă la carte restaurant is overpriced and the food was under/overcooked (how can you not know how to cook a potato?). Personally I'd not recommend this hotel when there's a Premier Inn in town...

Smiths travelsThe place was amazing and situated in a great place. Very near to a lot of amenities like bars and restaurants plus some shops.
The staff were amazing and so polite. We was made to feel like we was at home. Our room was huge and had a great view of the gardens.
Breakfast was outstanding and very tasty highly recommend.
We will definitely be staying here again in the future

Guest UserAlthough the location of the hotel is not close to the lake, it is between the town of Windermere and Bowness. It is basically a 10-15 minute walk to the lake to take a boat. The World of Peter Rabbit is the closest. The room is large and clean, and the bathroom is the largest among the hotels booked in the seven cities on this trip to the UK. The room is very warmly decorated, the cabinets are very large, and there are many hangers suitable for storing a lot of clothes. The boss's father is from Hong Kong. He chats with us every morning and recommends our travel routes. He is very enthusiastic. The breakfast is also very rich, and the price is very reasonable during the peak summer season.

Guest UserOverall, the hotelâs cleanliness was excellent; however, the service was disappointingâstarting at the reception, where staff made promises they failed to keep and evaded their responsibilities. I had handed over clothes for dry cleaning, but they were returned having undergone standard washing instead. Furthermore, the clothes were not clean, and an expensive shirt was ruined. The staff refused to take responsibility, claiming I had not specified dry cleaningâwhich was untrueâthough I was eventually paid ÂŁ100 in compensation. That was my experience during my stay.

Upon arrival there was nobody at the front desk so I waited. The woman I was somewhat greated by was far from pleasant and didnât seem like she wanted to be there at all. Nothing was explained and no information leaflet for me to read through in my own time. When given my room key I started walking through the lobby but couldnât see any signs for my room number. Went back to the desk to ask where to go for my room and was told âjust follow it roundâ.
Very unhelpful and unwelcoming, not sure this lady should be at the face of the hotel.
Plus side, room was beautiful and well kept/clean. I was also lake side so got to watch the sunrise with my morning cuppa. Very refreshing views.

Letâs start with the absolute best part of the stay: stepping out of the back of the hotel. The mature gardens stretch right down to the waterâs edge, complete with the hotel's own private jetty. Sitting out on the terrace with a coffee in the morning, watching the mist rise off Windermere and the boats drift past, is worth a massive chunk of the room rate alone.
Because itâs located right in the heart of Bowness-on-Windermere, the convenience is unbeatable. You can park up (fair warning: parking is a hefty ÂŁ25 per day) and completely forget about your car. The Bowness boat piers are a two-minute stroll away, and you are surrounded by local pubs and restaurants.

Stayed here several times, even a couple of times when they had only just re opened following each of the Covid lockdowns and always enjoyed, had a fab welcome and the rooms are clean.
Not saying its perfect for everyone as some of you will not be a fan of the gold and red decor in the rooms , reception and corridors. But its not shabby its just old fashioned.
The bathrooms are moden and the bar and restaurant have had a face lift with a not ultra moden colour scheme of cream and blue but it suits the building style.
Dont expect spa, gym or pool and dont expect room service or cocktails.
But you will always get a warm and friendly welcome and service.
The setting is off the beat and track , but worth finding this gem, at the side of the woods , with stream running over waterfall and rock oh and keep your eyes peeled for red squirrels.
Food is good at breakfast though no veggie sausages which some did complain about, food is good value in the evening though a limited choice of 4 starters 4 mains and 4 puds including a veggie option. Yorkshire portions for the main and loads of veg.
Bar prices higher than pub prices but not that bad for a hotel.

Stayed in one of the 4 garden cabins. Each are angled in such a way that they are all private. Each has its own hot tub and log burner. The cabin was cosy at night and well maintained. The cabin has WiFi, a tv, tea/coffee station, sofa and ensuite. Towels are provided for the bathroom plus separate towels, a robe and slippers for the hot tub. Breakfast was buffet but included hot self-service english breakfast items. I have to give credit to the person on reception when I checked in who greeted me with a smile and was friendly and helpful. I'll definitely be back.
