Crowne Plaza Adelaide, an IHG Hotel

CBD Adelaide|2.15km from South Australian Police Historical Society Museum
Do NOT GO to the restaurant, Koomo, on the 10th floor for dinner. The worst service we have had in any Crowne Plaza, or in any restaurant in Adelaide, and the most incompetent management to fix a very trivial issue. Last night my wife and I had booked a table for 6 people - two clients and two colleagues from Sydney and Perth.  The restaurant was about half full when we arrived. There were only 2 waitresses working in the restaurant, and it took us more than half an hour to be given menus, and a wine order to be taken.  It took another 20 minutes, after asking many times, for our food order to be taken. Two of our guests ordered a la carte from the menu,  and the other four wanted to try the ”tasting menu” - more expensive than the al la carte menu, with various preset courses. This is where things really started to go wrong. The tasting menu consisted of a choice between beef and chicken. Three people wanted beef and the other person wanted chicken. We were told by the waitress that the kitchen would not cook only one chicken for one person, and that two people would have to have this - in other words the four people could be served either all beef, or 2 chicken + 2 beef, but not 1 chicken and 3 beef. We really thought the waitress was joking, but realised she was serious. We asked her, very politely, if she could have a word with the kitchen and try to arrange this ”difficult” request. Some 15 minutes later the waitress returned and told us that it was not possible and the kitchen was not prepared to cook only one portion of chicken - it must be two portions and somebody else in our group wanting beef should cancel his beef and eat chicken instead. We asked to see the manager to see if he could sort this out, and very clearly told the waitress that if we could not get the food we wanted from the menu, then we would leave and go to another restaurant. No manager came to see us, but the waitress returned and told us that she had discussed with the manager and that the kitchen still refused to cook only one portion of chicken. We were not impressed. We paid the bill for the wine,  put on our coats and left the restaurant. As we were leaving someone from management (hotel or restaurant?) came to us and asked if we could reconsider and stay, and he would ”try” and convince the kitchen. Too late - our first experience of trying the Koomo restaurant had already been spoiled - poor service from the beginning and no feeling whatsoever for handling customers, and not any attempt to fix the very minor point of what we wanted to order by the management, until we were actually leaving.  I do not blame the waitress - she was caught in the middle with no support from the kitchen staff or the management. This is absolutely a management issue - one of making sure that all staff are trying their best to give good service to their customers, especially if the restaurant is selling itself as a high end one. Needless to say none of the six of us will go back,  and a

Oaks Adelaide Horizons Suites

CBD Adelaide|1.08km from South Australian Police Historical Society Museum
After staying at oaks hotels in Adelaide and Melbourne and convincing my company to book the oaks horizons for our staff I was very disappointed, I have always stayed at this hotel on family holidays and also recommended it to other people going to Adelaide, not anymore, when I got to hotel the first thing I did was to iron my clothes that I was going to wear for the next few days , the iron which still had water in it stained my jeans with a dirty rusty water which continued to seep out , when I went down to reception they brought another iron to my room and when I went to use it I noticed there was no lid where the water goes in for the steam function and every time I pushed the iron water spilt out over my clothes, at least it wasn’t dirty rusty water , when I went to use the shower, the head of the shower was full of mould and some other substances which I wouldn’t even try and describe, and when I went onto the balcony to have a coffee the table had a base missing on one of the leg’s which resulted in my coffee spilling everywhere, for the price we payed for the rooms it was disgraceful, my company will be travelling to Adelaide quite a bit for the next few years , and probably spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on accommodation, but not at this hotel, it’s sad what has become of this hotel, i think the cleaners need retraining and I think the staff and management need to have a good look at themselves, maybe the oaks franchise should inspect this hotel to see if it’s worthy of the oaks brand, I hardly ever write a review and am a pretty understanding type of person so you know when I’m writing a bad review of a hotel I’ve always supported how bad it was , clean up your act horizons, John Setka CFMEU

Great and convenient location. Close to 7 x 24 convenience store for daily stuff and simple meal. Also close to the ******************. Someone may like it. Some beggars and drunk people could be found near the hotel. Won't harm you. Just be careful.

Pros: Free food!! Tasty pancake breakfasts and four nights a week they make you dinner! Really tasty! Make sure you queue early! Generally plenty for everyone but people go for seconds! Facilities were good, toilets/showers upstairs are really good, downstairs is poor. Cons: Be prepared for party on the weekends! Very loud. Had to ask people to shh at 4am both Friday and Saturday night. Not sure why the front door is at the front by the rooms! The backdoor services the reception and common room so why is this not the front door?!? Luggage storage was not secure with the door just open all the time. Backdoor is open all the time so anyone can walk in off the street and they wouldn’t look out of place!! Not much room in the dorms and lockers are mostly broken. Had to store my bag on-top of the locker which was a bit of a nightmare.

I was looking for a touch of special to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday. So I booked a room with a river view because I thought that would be nice to wake up to. Well, when we arrived, we had been upgraded to a 'suite'! We were blown away at this room, wall to ceiling views, dining room, bath, balcony. 'Pretty woman' eat your heart out. We didn't dine there as it was a Sunday night and not all of them were open but the facilities looked good. Staff were very professional and friendly at check in and check out. Very little surprises me these days. but EOS did. Thank you very much for exceeding our expectations and giving us an experience we will cherish forever.

The checkin was a bit slow, but maybe the people in front of us all had issues - it seems that way because our checkin was quick. The rooms were fantastic. Spacious, comfortable and quiet. The bathroom was particularly big. Good bed. Wifi worked well. Good toiletries. Breakfast was excellent, although the coffee machine could do with a bit of a lift. The staff were moving around between the kitchen and front counter so it's a bit hard to nail them down to make fresh eggs. Location is great. Easy to reach from the airport by bus (or taxi). Also a short walk to the train station. Really impossible to fault.

Lovely hotel. Great location near river and festival precinct. Club lounge provided great breakfast options and evening canapes and drink selection were very generous ( enough to replace dinner on at least one occasion).

This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at, the warning signs were there as soon as you walk in the lobby. It was dirty, disorganised and some of the the other guests who were coming and going looked dodgy. The lift was dirty, the hallways were dirty, carpet sticky underfoot, the rooms were just as dirty, dated and generally rundown. You can’t sleep at night, the noice is terrible from the street below, lots of parting people, wandering crackheads in the early morning hours and then council workers cleaning up the streets. The photos and hotel description on the Qantas hotel booking page are completely misleading. Definitely do not stay here, it’s a dump !! I booked for two nights and left after night one, best decision even though it cost me more.
