We visited here this weekend and what a lovely place it is . We were booked for 2 nights but unfortunately had to leave early due to a family bereavement we were just so taken with it the room was lovely the food we saw coming out looked amazing . We had booked a table for the Saturday night but unfortunately had to leave but we definitely be back for another stay and sample the food. The staff were all so busy but everyone had a smile on their faces. The location was amazing I would recommend anyone to stay here

Fabulous harbour view both from bedroom and conservatory. Breakfast was delicious and if that is standard of catering, I wish I'd had more meals. Staff very helpful. Highly recommend and any slight flaws very easily overlooked. Thanks to everyone.

Lovely setting looking out over the harbour. Smart interior. Polite friendly staff. Had a Fantastic Roast Beef Sunday lunch with lots of fresh vegetables (roasts are served until 5pm). Will definitely be back!

I stayed at this Hotel when I was in town for a concert. The hotel is not really a hotel - there are rooms above a Chandlers’ supplies shop, and you get the key from the pub/restaurant below. The manager, Ariel, was very nice and welcoming when we arrived. My room was fine - the decor was very dated and I had a view over the carpark, but that wasn’t an issue. The room was equipped with everything you might need - kettle, tea, coffee, ironing board, iron and hairdryer. There was also a very good vertical oscillating fan. However, the bathroom wasn’t very clean. It had obviously not been deep cleaned in a long time - there were yellow limescale circles around the sink’s plug hole, and pink mould on the bath. My friend’s room had cobwebs on the ceiling and her toilet was not clean. On the following day, we needed access to the room throughout the day, and when we realised that our rooms would not be cleaned until the afternoon, we told the housekeeper that we only needed some extra toilet roll and our bins emptied. The housekeeper said no problem. By later in the day, however, that had not been done. I bumped into the housekeeper and asked her for some toilet roll - she gave me a roll but none for my friend. The staircase leading to the rooms was not vacuumed during our stay - the same hairs that were there on Day 1 were there when we left. The front door, which leads to the room, had a dodgy brown stain that clearly nobody had cleaned in ages. Breakfast was fine, and there was a vegan option, there were no pastries, or fruit. The only option was a cooked breakfast. Unfortunately, the table mats weren’t clean, the tables were sticky - everything felt sticky and slightly grimey, even the door to get into the pub/restaurant. We decided to skip breakfast on day two and leave asap. I don’t know if my friend and I were particularly unlucky - we have other friends staying at the Salt during that time, and they didn’t report any issues. I showed one friend the picture of the pink mould in my bath and she was horrified. I wasn’t expecting a 5 star hotel, but the place should have been cleaner for £225 for two nights. It’s a shame because the manager was very nice and the location is great.

Shower slow. Marks in toilet. Not cleaned under sink taps. Room noisy with windows open, but appreciate its a working harbour. Loved the location for being central. Beautiful breakfast. Great service in the restaurant. Great fish and chip's from take away. Great food and drink from restaurant

Had a lovely meal with my family including Lobster Thermidor, Oysters and Champagne. Staff were brilliant, restaurant and views were first class until we’d finished our super meal and were suddenly abandoned with no service. Upon finding the staff to ask where anybody was we were very rudely told by one girl that it was because she was preparing the next day’s breakfast menu and by another (previously fantastic) girl that it was our fault for booking a table at 7:30 (where I get the feeling they wanted to go home early as it was Monday) Shocking and very disappointing end to a brilliant experience and evening.

Another fantastic stay at salt stayed 7-9 July we had room (3) oysters tasted so fresh , haddock and chips spot on , the breakfast vast improvement since previous owners and was red hot .Waiting staff very good Ariel , Elliot and the younger bar man sorry don’t know his name fab . As a catering teacher I noticed few of younger waitresses just standing around but jez soon told them loved it that much booked for September.

Great little place but lots of minor points which just stop it being exceptional. Check in fine but we were told restaurant closed at 7pm. Couldn’t confirm if that was doors closed or last orders though as no manager on site. We therefore booked for 6pm but people still rocked up and walked in at 7.15. A bit like the left hand didn’t know what the right hand was doing. Evening meal, couldn’t fault quality but whilst menu not overly extensive, 3 items on there were not available which did annoy other diners. Breakfast, again , great tasting what we had but whilst good choice of mains, there was no fruit (fresh or tinned), no pastries, no yogurt. Room - very clean, all toiletries, coffees etc , water, towels for both of us there on check in. However , whilst requesting room to be cleaned on day 2 , bed’s not made, only 1 bottle of water replaced, both bath towels removed but one new clean one added, dirty coffee cups not cleaned or replaced. Didn’t spoil our overall stay but just numerous small points which stop it being 5*
