What a wonderful experience we had at this charming , expansive, and natural beauty of an estate. Don’t believe the disparagers - they’re incorrect. Just visit this place.

My children(25 & 27) and I had an amazing time at the Montage we were there for a wedding but were able to enjoy the resort too. Bikes, Horseback riding, swimming and dining were all fabulous.

Stayed here for 1 x night and played golf at May River. Hotel, restaurant and golf was superb, will definitely revisit if back in the area.

This was our first time visiting this magnificent property. Tucked away in a magical paradise. The entire staff made us feel right at home from the moment we entered. I would highly recommend staying at this property when visiting Bluffton. Everyone on staff greeting us with such Kindness. Our concierge Carmela took extra good care of us making sure we had everything we needed for our road trip into Savannah. We will definitely be back !

Overall, a great stay. Friendly staff, gorgeous property/grounds, fun activities. Rooms could use a refresh, getting a bit tired - bedding/chipped paint/furniture. Some activities like the shooting club and boat tours are pricey for the experience. Most of the boat tours are private charters which seems unnecessary for a small group. We really enjoyed the tennis/pickleball courts and lessons, lovely facility, wonderful pros. More restaurants need to be open during the week. We struggled to find places to eat because, so few restaurants were open mid-week. We ended up driving off property several times for a casual dinner, as the only options on property were overcommitted or too formal for children. It rained one day and my kids had a terrific time doing the resort scavenger hunt, as well as daily cookie/lemonade hour and smores in the evening. Both nice touches. The lobby store was very cute, bought a great sundress on the rainy day. Suggest replacing the men's store with another women's store, as the men's store was practically empty. Would have been nice to try the spa but they were all booked. Wish they would have offered day passes to use the facilities.

Everything about the actual room was outstanding. But be aware that most of the rooms are well away (100-200 yards) from the main hotel, and across a bridge over the end of the lagoon. Activities/facilities are centered at the main building, so keep that in mind.

We just finished an underwhelming 4 night family stay for our kids’ spring break. We love the lowcountry and were looking forward to our stay, but unfortunately, it left us disappointed. We checked in on Saturday afternoon around 2:15pm and were told our room/ cottage wasn’t ready but would be ready soon. We walked around, looked in the shops, and then sat on the covered porch to wait since we expected it would be ready “soon”. After an hour I checked on the status and was told it still wasn’t ready but would be ready for the 4pm “guaranteed check in”. At 4:05pm I went back to the reception desk and was finally told it was ready. We were taken to a golf cart and driven to our room. No tour like we had seen other guests receiving, no explanation of amenities, no orienting us to the resort, just straight to our room. We enquired about our luggage we had left with the valet / bell stand and were told it would be following behind us. Two phone calls and one hour later, after 5pm, it arrived. Not a great start. We did use the pool right behind our rooms but were surprised to find there was no attendant, no food/ drink service, nothing. I can set up a pool chair for myself but I’ve never had to at a Four Seasons, Ritz, Rosewood, etc. I would have enjoyed a cocktail or snack by the pool while our kids swam but there was nobody to order from which felt more like a condo/VRBO experience than a luxury resort. Our kids did enjoy the pool and we appreciated that it is heated. We were surprised then to wake up the 2nd morning of our stay and find work trucks and workmen outside our windows draining the pool and hot tub. When I went outside to see what was going on I was told the pool would be closed the next couple of days but should reopen Wednesday. Well, we checked out today (Weds) and the pool was still closed. Very disappointing as we had not been notified of the closure at check in or during our stay at all. There were other frustrations like inconsistent turndown - 530pm night 1, after 9pm night 2, no turndown night 3, and after 915pm night 4 at which point we just took water and ice because our kids were in bed. We had no bikes and weren’t told how to get them so I had to make calls to get that arranged. We went for cookies and lemonade one day and waited 40 mins and they never showed. Our kids did enjoy the nightly s’mores and had fun seeing the alligators and beautiful grounds. Any one thing in isolation wouldn’t be a big deal but all together we were left wondering how our experience could be so different from others’. We had a fantastic stay at The Cloister at Sea Island and would return there before revisiting the Montage.
