My husband and I went for my birthday lunch and the meal did not disappoint . I had Nduja lentils with cod and deep fried kale , cauliflower and my husband had the chuck steak burger . My cod was the best cod meal I have ever eaten , so full of flavour and cod very very fresh , hubby said his burger was amazing . Staff very helpful , lovely atmosphere

Very relaxing overnight stay in a beautiful old building. Village in a handy location for the coast . Really friendly and professional service from all staff . Seems a great team that has been assembled here . Food was consistently well thought out , tasty and comforting, for dinner and breakfast . Rooms clean with great views ( stayed in room 3 ) . Loved it . Will be back !

It was the first time we had stayed overnight somewhere with our service dog, Athena. She was made to feel as welcome as we were (extremely welcome). Lovely pub, good selection of Adnams stock, great menu and excellent food. Our room for the night had a stuning view of the Blyth Estuary. A perfect place to stay with dogs. Service dogs stay free, otherwise a £10 charge per night. The room (number 4) was spacious with an enterance hall that was tiled. A surprisingly spacious bathroom. A comfy double bed. Clean and equiped with everthing needed for a comfortable stay. The staff were excellent, friendly and professional. They genuinely seemed to love having a pub full of dogs.

This pub is within a hours walking distance of our home and we’ve hoped the food would get back to the good old standards. It’s better! Last time we walked here (pre-pandemic) we were greeted with signs everywhere telling us to take off our muddy boots, close the door etc. the music was loud, the staff didn’t care and the food was dull. Friends had such bad food they vowed never to return. What a difference! Great staff who were relaxed but helpful, the menu is varied, and the food was delicious. As a non meat eater I often struggle in pubs, but there was lots to choose from. It was really nicely presented and the chef obviously cares - the focaccia on the side was griddled to perfection and served with a fresh green sauce. It’s great to know we can now get a lovely meal at the end of our walk, although we really will need to walk back again, for the exercise, if we eat three courses off the set menu!

One chip at a time..... that's the portion size...one chip called a potato rosti "apparently".and when I complained to the manager (who couldn't have cared less) said "I've served 3 of thouse today and nobody else has said anything". So I asked for some more for my partner and myself,a considerable time later ONE MORE CHIP appeared to which my partner and I cracked up laughing and said"really one chip between two of us.....the manager then said "it's potato that has been grated and then made into the shape of a chip called a rosti,"as if that made any difference at all to the size of the portion!!!!so we asked for more which didn't turn up untill we had already finnished eating.£21.00 for a fatty pork chop two inches of half a rost carrot two inches of a roast leek three small dots of something green on the plate and a teaspoon of apple sauce split in to two blobs (to try to fill the empty plate). I could have eaten three plates and still been hungry.as if that wasn't bad enough on a the first night.the second night we had a lovely day at Southwold and returned back to the room about 7ish had a shower and a brush-up and thought we might have some food and a couple of drinks in the pub,so we left the room walked round to the pub at about 8.30 to find the whole place in darkness.all 4 rooms with 8 people in and nowhere to get any food or drink!!! What is the point in booking a room at a pub(in the middle of nowhere)if the pub isn't open for half your stay.too far to walk anywhere else for a drink and no other food within walking distance.Again when I asked the manager in the morning why the pub was shut with eight people staying in the four rooms at the back of the pub,he said not worth opening,it wouldn't pay for the electric....!!! So obviously the customers don't matter!!!!!!! Don't bother staying if it includes a sunday.very over priced food and a rude manager.the rest of the staff were very friendly, shame about the manager. Adnams. sort it out........!!

We eat here mainly on a Friday evening and the food and service is excellent. Great gluten free choices and staff fully aware of coeliac disease and the importance of not cross contaminating the food. The fish and chips are fantastic. Highly recommend. We have never had a disappointing meal

My partner and I stayed here the first weekend in the New Year for a weekend break to relax and see some of the local sights. We ate in the restaurant 3 nights in a row and the food was very well-presented and tasty. Our room round the back of the pub was spacious, warm and comfortable as well as being clean with a nice bathroom and views across the river to Southwold. All in all a lovely stay in a well-situated place with good food and local beer. Highly recommended and thank you!

This is the third time my Husband and I have stayed at this lovely Inn. The cleanliness of the rooms, views over The River Blyth and restaurant are superb! Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. We bring our two Labradors who are made so welcome. The food is just delicious. The burger is one of the best, and my pork loin melted in my mouth not to mention the "leek". I have never tasted anything so good. Wonderful Chef. Mastermind eat your heart out!

Very expensive compared to other local pubs would personally recommend the star at wenhaston or the queens head bramfield or the fox at darsham or my favourite the white horse at westleton if you use one of these you will eat and drink just as well but save a fortune
