Pros: Polite friendly staff. Incredible food. 3 courses for £20. Walk-in, powerful shower. Great location. Cons: Our room (74) was quite small and tired looking. Needs decorating and vinyl replacing on outside of door less wardrobe. No view from window, just a concrete wall. No comfy seating area for just a drink, only high tables and stools or dining tables and chairs. Hot buffet breakfast with watery scrambled eggs. I found out after I could have asked for a fried egg. I think workmen use this hotel. Personally, I think any hotel that have workmen stay should allocate certain rooms for them and keep nicer rooms for people who stay for pleasure. I'd stay there again but request a different room from 74.

Over the years, I've been to a dozen countries and have stayed in budget accommodation in quite a few of them. Metro Inns deserves a place in my top 3. The staff are very knowledgeable about the local area and are all friendly and polite. The manager even loaned us a few hangers from his personal lodgings as the previous tenants of our room had either broken or stolen them. Communal toilets and showers were cleaner than expected and well stocked, as was the kitchen (which had plenty of fridges, kettles, and ovens for us to use). The showers were powerful enough to ***** off a day's worth of sweat and grime! Better than my shower at home. Towels were replaced daily for us, which I honestly wasn't expecting as we only paid £12 per head per night. Conveniently located smack bang in between Edinburgh and Glasgow park and rides, but there's plenty to see around the local area such as the Falkirk Wheel and Kelpies. The only downside was that our room only had two power outlets and could have done with a lick of paint, but the beds were surprisingly comfortable. There are also a couple of restaurants within throwing distance if you can't be bothered to cook. The coffee machine in the lobby that uses actual beans instead of instant rubbish was a nice touch. All in all, if I'm back in the area again, I'd definitely book this place again! Even if they raise the price, I would still consider it reasonable. Many thanks for a pleasant stay!

The staff are excellent, very friendly and ensure your stay is enjoyable. The rooms in the hotel need updating; I would not choose to stay at the hotel again due to the rooms being quite basic for a 4*, and no safe in the room either.
The restaurant area is nice. The bar area could do with an open fire, which would be in keeping with the property and, due to the bar's location can be quite cool.
I found the lockers difficult to use; there are no instructions when trying to use them, only in the reception area. I did ask someone to show me, but they were too busy apparently, so I asked another customer to help me.
There was no concession for late checkout on New Year's Day; however, upon request, this was granted. You also have to book for breakfast; therefore, on New Year's Day, I had to get up for 9 am to go down to breakfast, which was not ideal.
I had paid for the trip online when I booked; however, when I came to checkout, I was charged the full amount again and was informed that there was no log that I had already paid, but when we arrived and checked in, it was acknowledged that I had paid, it was a good job that I had the email displaying that I had paid. Upon further investigation by the hotel, it was noted that I had paid.
I thought that I had read somewhere that there was an option for a set menu for NYE, but al a carte was still an option however this was not the case. The food was ok.
The stay was made better due to the friendliness of the bar and restaurant staff, all credit to them.
The food was amazing and was cooked to perfection, it wasn't too spicy and it was very flavourful literally the best curry I've ever eaten. The service was perfect, everyone was so nice would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to experience amazing cuisine would come again :)
booked this hotel to start with as it was near where we was going to, we are on our way to Hebrides, staying at varies hotels B&B on the route, first impression was wow what a lovey place this is, been redecorated 8 years ago, we got a really nice welcome at the reception, was asked about the room, we have one of the bigger rooms, only. short walk to the lift, would say seconds, on opening the door to the bedroom, again very impressed, did not expect such a big room, walk in shower, ample space, in the bathroom, we have tea & coffee with kettle, very quiet room, we then went to eat and dine, Cloe the waiters that served is is a lovely lad, very helpful and chatty, all in all a very nice place to stay would highly recommend, , food is excellent for a excellent choice of the menu

I visited here yesterday for afternoon tea with trepidation, having read the negative reviews regarding accommodation. I was very pleasantly surprised, I found the staff from reception to the servers to be very welcoming and attentive and the afternoon tea was absolutely delicious! I have eaten afternoon tea in some of Edinburgh's top landmarks and this compared favourably with the best at a fraction of the price. Really tasty and varied savouries and sweets and beautifully presented. I had wine rather than tea which was very reasonably priced. All in all, a lovely experience so thanks to all staff involved not least those in the kitchen. The room was comfortable with nice views....if I was to be very picky I'd say that yes, the decor could maybe do with freshening up and some nice easy listening music would have added to the ambience but a lovely experience nonetheless.
We loved our apartment- like a home away from home with everything that you need for a comfortable stay. Location is superb, right in the centre of town and an easy walk to lots of lovely pubs and restaurants. Will definitely book again.
