Brilliant 2 weeks of self-organised walking. Excellent base for a comfortable stay. Plenty of choice in the buffet breakfast and evening meal. High floor room gave good views out to sea. All staff very helpful, especially the ladies on reception.

A smaller hotel than many in an elevated position that gives panoramic views. Access is steep but factor in some bus and/or taxi fares back from Funchal centre because it is worth it! Very friendly staff and facilities that are not overcrowded. We have stayed here many times

Fantastic staff, clean hotel, good facilities. Food in the buffet style restaurant was exceptional, both in variety and quality. Everyone friendly and nothing too much trouble. Room bright and airy with a view over the pool. Room with a balcony and to see the sunset and rise every morning, just beautiful. The cockerel has been mentioned in other reviews - loved him, and there is a street close by, but honestly the noise not a problem. No noise from the bars and restaurants in town. The A la Cart restaurant lacked some atmosphere for us, but with one meal included in the half board package it was worth a try. Would definitely stay again.

A great value trip with a stack to do and see. A beautifully island very clean and very Portuguese. It felt safe with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from. Definitely worth a visit and we will return

Booked based on reviews already on Tripadvisor and was pleasantly surprised by the standards that in general were good. Highlights were : The checking in process that was very quick and efficient particularly after travelling early. Breakfast had a good selection and always enough choice for all tastes. Others: All the hotel was clean and tidy. Although a little tired in the rooms and sunbathing areas, sun beds broken and some in need of painting. We found some of the staff were excellent, others slightly lazy not cleaning tables and there were some that felt like they didn’t want to be there at breakfast service! Didn’t use the dinner services as ate out in many excellent local restaurants. One note of concern is I would recommend not to use the two alleys after dark directly below hotel and either use roads to either side going towards the main road. This due to a number of reasons, animal mess, broken lighting and some “characters” loitering.

According to Trip Adviser this is the second best hotel in the local area?????? I don’t get it…….. but if I said that the average age of the guests visiting this hotel was between 60 and 75, then this may add some context to its current rating. The hotel is situated in a residential area and if you like being woken by a cockerel each morning at 5am and listening to motorcycles racing directly past the front of the hotel whilst you try to relax on your balcony, then Yes, this hotel is perfect for you! We booked one of the relatively new Deluxe Suite Rooms with a sea view and we specifically requested a “quiet room”but as you can see from the above and our very noisy Eastern European neighbours, this request was completely ignored and although the hotel has given itself a four star accreditation and stuck stars on the patio doors to reinforce it, this did not fool us and in fact it added insult to injury, as the room didn’t even have even have a coffee machine and the daily Nescafé and poor quality tea bag allowance with a kettle, was restricted to just one drink each per day each. As this was our first visit to Madeira we also decided to book half board, but this was a complete waste of money, as there are plenty of good value restaurants near by, but if you prefer “school dinner hall food” then this option is perfect. Probably the most disappointing point of all though, was the total lack of empathy from the TUI rep named Gabriela when I asked for our return transfer pickup time to be revisited, given the arrival transfer only took 20 minutes and yet we received notification of a 3.5 hour transfer leaving at 7.30am in the morning?????? Potential TUI customers should be aware that I was advised that it is now TUI Policy for all guests to arrive at the airport 3 hours before departure and not 2 hours as we follow in the UK and so I would strongly recommend private transfers for those who value the time that they have paid for in resort, along with a relaxing breakfast before departure. However, when I arrived for the transfer I found out the real reason for the 3.5 hour transfer, as first we had to load our cases on to a separate transfer van and then walk to an area off site to meet the coach, that could not traverse the restricted access to the hotel and when we eventually arrived at the coach, a guest announced that they had left their phone at the hotel and so we were delayed a further 15 minutes, whilst the rep returned back to the hotel to try to locate the missing phone FFS! On a final point, other gusts have already commented over the hills leading up to the hotel, but I would forget those comments and instead I would replace this description with the word “mountainous” as this better describes the hotels location. Thankfully though, Taxi’s are very reasonable and so we used these on our return to the mountain each day.

Perfect stay, very comfy bed. Lovely room. Pool area spacious. Plenty of sun loungers. Breakfast choice excellent. Highly recommend the tasting menu on the Saturday evening. Great location, 30 min walk to the centre of Funchal. Download the Bolt APP. Really easy to book taxi if you don't want to walk up the hill. Beautiful Island.

Can’t fault this place for the price. Yes, up a hill, yes a few dogs barking but apart from that, great. Everywhere is clean and we stayed in a very nice suite over the sun deck. Breakfast was good and staff excellent. Happy hour from 6 until 9.30 in different bars. Loads of places to eat near by. If you get a good deal on the price then you probably can’t do better. This is my 6 th time to Funchal and I would stay here again. Only shame was the tv didn’t pick up signal and there was no replacement shower gel all week. I’m sure they would have sorted it if I’d asked. The 3 L s restaurant near by is worth a visit.

Absolutely loved our holiday staying at this hotel. The location may put some people off, as it's about a 20-25minute walk from Funchal centre. However, there are so many other bars and restaurants to enjoy just 5 mins walk away. Cross the road from the coach drop off point, and you are on the main ***** to the Lido. The walk to Funchal is downhill, and the city itself is simply stunning. You can walk back (uphill, but not too bad) or get a cab for about 8euros. We had booked a deluxe room. It was absolutely perfect. Spacious, clean and ground floor opening up onto the sundeck above the spa with a seaview. Hotel staff were fantastic, and always smiling. Priscilla always made me smile as she punctuated each sentence with the word "love." TUI staff were also brilliant, Ricardo, Natasha and Cassandra. The spa facilities were perfect, with a heated indoor pool, a steam room and sauna. The gym also had everything you needed and was never busy. Only gripe, the rooftop bar was never open during our stay. The food is good. There isn't loads of different dishes to pick from, but this is better in my opinion. There is plenty of food to have, but it minimises waste. Wife and I enjoyed it so much, we fully intend to return and will solicit the hotel for the same room.
