Amritara Poovath Beachfront Heritage

We stayed in one of the premier rooms with a so called balcony ,with a so called sea view.It cost over £600.00 for 2 nights.{Totally overpriced.] We were very disappointed. The balcony turned out to be an internal room attached to the bed room. It faced the sea but had no clear view of the sea as the view was obscured by trees. The view was of a piece of waste ground covered in rubbish, with men urinating against the wall. It was noisy with music from the local restaurants going on late. The house all though old and interesting needed some general maintenance. Don't be taken in by it's an old dutch house, it's nothing special. There were a lot of mosquito's around and came into the room through badly fitting external doors and windows. We had break fast included which was very poor served by badly trained young miserable waiters. Don't bother staying here,there are better hotels and at a fraction of the cost in the area.

Went for 2 days, and staff didn't understand me. Rooms were dirty and there was only one staff at breakfast making food and taking orders. Pool was dirty. It took an hour for me to wait for prawns because he didn't understand what I said. Food was fine . The electricity kept turning on and off and they ran out of water while I was taking a shower. Next time I won't be coming here and it overrated.

Stayed here for one night only on our way to Munnar. Beautifully maintained heritage property. Car needs to be parked on the street since the hotel does not have any parking facility but it was not a problem for us. We had 2 Deluxe Double room, one on the ground floor and the other on the first floor. First floor room was bigger but faced the next door cemetery. There is no lift but the staff help with luggage. Entire hotel including our rooms was clean and well maintained. Location is really good, a few minutes walk from main Fort Kochi area. Room size was good and bathroom was spacious. Air Conditioner worked well. Room had enough space for luggage and was equipped with tea/coffee facility, electronic safe and bedroom slippers. There was no chair but one was provided once we asked. Bed and pillows were comfortable. The hotel has a small pool which we couldn't utilize due to time constraints. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Food was decent. Those who are so inclined, please note that the hotel does not serve alcohol. Service was attentive but some of the staff are not very well trained and had difficulty while taking food orders but overall attitude were positive. The dinning area is not air conditioned and mosquitoes can be a nuisance. If we go back to Kochi we will definitely consider this hotel for a second stay.

You know about that Christopher Reeves/Jane Seymour movie Somewhere in Time where he toggled between two eras? Welcome to Amritara the Poovath Beachfront Heritage. The building is like a fantastic Jane-Seymour-cake someone brought in today’s world. It’s a beautiful mix of yesterera and today, but it’s difficult to decide which was better… the architecture, the staff’s hospitality or the food. I gave up on deciding and gave all three 11/5 each. And yes, thank you chef for remembering that I wanted local dessert, it was a beautiful delicious surprise that I’ll carry in my heart for years.

I liked the location and property. The food provided was good too. However, the staff did not clean our room 2nd day and did not provide an option for ocean facing room.

Property location is good , staff could be more proactive in providing cleaning and a better room with a view for multiple night stays
