The Manor House

We had visited Rosa ***or for a staycation cum birthday celebration and I had checked multiple times before booking the property if the pool was functional, same was confirmed to me by the property owners. When we reached there and inquired about the same, they said construction work will be on till 5:00 PM, soon that changed from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM after multiple follow ups and arguments the property owners then said that they would arrange for us to be in the pool for one hour between 9-10 PM, which itself was disappointing and also misleading as we would not have booked this property if pool was going to be off limits the whole day. While the rooms were clean and in best order, the pool was not even cleaned, debris accumulated in the corners. Food was alright, portions not great. Staff approachable but need better training in customer ***agement. Needless to say where customer experience should be priority the team ended up ruining the birthday celebrations.

Three of the staff lounging at the dirty curtain near the dusty 'desk' (a fake made of hide and and brass tacks), jumped out of their skins when the three of us arrived. "Room not ready sir" was the excuse for making us wait in an adjacent restaurant dressed up as a poor ***'s Hard Rock Cafe. We decided to go out for lunch instead and upon our return were shown to an airless dungeon wafting with stale cigarette smoke. The furniture was shoddy copies of Old Calcutta, the valve radio had a blinking digital clock and the brass "telephone" had push buttons to dial reception. The whole effect was that of a disused set from a B-film from Tollygunge featuring opium traders and indentured labour. The only"real" part of the place was immediately outside, where the grinding life of smoky Kolkata wore its people, its cars, its garbage raddled pavements out. When asked where the three of us would sleep, indicating only two beds, the ***orless pointed at the floor of the only vacant space in the room outside the bathroom door. We beat a hasty retreat to a place out of town. But not before the lads confided that the place was actually under renovation and that there were no more rooms to be had.
