Amara Ayurveda Retreat

I landed in Trivandrum international at 4.30am. The driver was waiting for me at arrivals. Although check in isn't until the afternoon, they kindly let me check in early which was greatly appreciated after a very long journey! Unfortunately I picked up a sickness bug on the flight and the staff were amazing looking after me, bringing soups and fresh coconut water to my room. I was treated my the wonderful Ayurvedic doctor on site, which cleared my sickness up! I was so grateful for such a beautiful room, view and comfortable bed to recover in! I wouldn't hesitate to stay again to enjoy the hotel and the Ayurvedic treatments properly. Thank you to you all!

An absolutely amazing property located between Thiruvanthapuram and Kovalam. The Rooms are absolutely amazing and the Hotel Grounds are well maintained. The Breakfast served at the Coffee Shop is extremely fresh and apt for an Ayurvedic Retreat. The Room that we were appointed opened into a common balcony that overlooked the well kept lawns below. The Swimming Pool is an absolute delight as well. The only two things that needed attention were 1) The Main Door was really difficult to lock / unlock and the 2) Bathroom W/C Seat had a huge crack. Needs to be replaced ASAP since it’s a safety hazard. Apart from these two our stay was extremely pleasant thanks to the extremely friendly and polite Staff.

I have just returned from my 2nd visit to Amara Ayurveda Retreat and I can only say it just keeps getting better. We were collected at Trivandrum Airport by the Resort's driver and arrived at Amara just 20 minutes later. We stayed in Amara 4 years ago before Covid and it was lovely to see the gardens matured and everything looking so beautiful. We had a consultation with the Ayurvedic doctor the following morning and he prescribed a series of treatments for the next 2 weeks. It was a lovely surprise to see that Sunita (our therapist) was still working in the Ayurvedic Centre. My first treatment was a general body massage and I have to say it was the best massage of my life, Sunita is truly gifted and very nurturing. I had my treatment at 11am each morning and that left the day free to sight see, lounge by the pool or pop down to Kovalam Beach which was only 10 minutes drove away. Amara is so peaceful, nestled in the hills of Kovalam, the only sounds are those of nature. It was so relaxing to sit on our balcony (of our very large room) and watch the giant size butterflies and birds around the gardens. The selection of dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner was excellent. We really enjoyed sampling all the local dishes, each one delicious and served by ever smiling staff that could not do enough for us. We will definitely not be leaving our return visit as long the next time! We arrived at Amara with aches and pains and left very relaxed, with supple limbs. Thank you to all at Amara. We hope to see you again next year for more of your unique TLC.

Well maintained property! Polite & friendly staffs. We visited for a quick break for a stay of one night with 3 adults & 2 kids.. Check in was smooth & rooms were allocated in few minutes. Rooms 401 & 402 were big and spacious with balcony type sits outs.. nice mountain views.. Kids & myself loved the pool. though was not very crowded, found 2 foreigners & other couple of families. Dinner was alcarte at restaurant, food made after order is made, hence there was bit delay but the food was served hot & tasty! Evening snacks & tea too was severed in room after 20 to 30 mins of ordering. Mr.Sanesh at Ayurveda center was friendly and gave a nice professional massage. Breakfast too was good, we walked in around 7:30 am and was bit too early, but by 8:15 am all was ready... Staffs at restaurant too was friend & polite. Prompt and asked whether we need more... Over all was nice an experience, value for the money! Would be nice if more kids friendly activates are added as there is nothing else other than pool for kids to enjoy.. something like kite flying, cycling, dart, carroms, etc..

The view great but all the hill climbing to get to restaurants and clases not so good the bed was so hard we left food ok but little bland good life guard on beach The grounds are great if a little hilly even mountain goat might struggle. Try to get ice was a mission but unsuccessful

We stayed as family (total 4 rooms) for 1 night at Amara. The rooms are well kept with all the basic comforts. The design of the rooms has an earthy theme, in line with the overall theme of Ayurveda. You will also notice how the go local and natural theme has been imbibed in small things like a flower holder made of coconut husk, a soap holder made of coconut shell, etc. However, make no mistake. Amara is in no way antique when it comes to technology. The rooms have smart TV, WiFi, powerful AC and even smart fans. The bathroom is also well equipped with 24x7 hot water as well as good quality toiletry. The surroundings are pretty, with the resort overlooking a lush green mountain and a water body in between two steep mountain walls. The rooms on the first floor provide a good view of the natural beauty around. The area around the cottages are also green and well maintained. Amara also has a well maintained swimming pool which you can use to do some quick warm ups or laze around in the sun. The place also has an Ayurveda therapy centre (which we dint try out) where you can get rejuvenated. Your stay is also complimented by good food. There is a fully functional restaurant on the premises which offers room service also. The breakfast spread during our stay was quite elaborate with local dishes ruling the roost. The food was delicious too. The only downside which can hit you at times is the slow service in the restaurant. But that's also quite variable. For us, the first day the service was absolutely slow to the point of irritating at times, however on the second day, things were much better. Service by the staff was also pretty good in the rooms- be it request for an additional bed, or attending to complaint of wifi connectivity. The staff members are courteous and ready to help with a smile. The only other drawback of this place is it's location. One, it takes a ride on a narrow road, bumpy in places due to potholes, to reach the place. Two, as it's situated on a hillock, this is not the place if you are craving to relax on the beachside. The nearest beach is Kovalam which is 3.5 km away and will take 15- 20 mins to reach by car. All in all, Amara is a perfect place to unwind and relax, ***** with indulging in some Ayurveda therapy if you choose to (Disclaimer- we did not try out the Ayurveda therapy however enquired about the same from the staff during our stay).
