Nakanoyu Onsen Ryokan

Really great for solo travellors from tokyo. U can shuttle bus from Matsumoto which is a train away from shinjuku station at 2.45pm (easy reservation over email). There is shuttle bus as well to kamikochi at 8am and 9am (reserve at hotel). The 8am bus will be sufficient time to explore the major sceneries at kamikochi if you walk fast and the hotel will bring your luggage to the shuttle bus if you reserve a seat for the 12.20pm bus from kamikochi bus terminal.

I am a solo traveler who stayed in the room with private open bath. I enjoyed my 2 nights stay. Hotel looks tired and old but it was all good . Btw, you have to use a key to open the door not access card. I paid for my room with breakfast and dinner. I have a private dining space in a restaurant which I like it. Skip all queue and I dine at the same place for all meals. Dinner was great. Breakfast spread was wonderful too. I tried the one hour jap massage and it was so good. There isn’t anyone who can really speak English. The guests are mainly locals. There is free shuttle to check in and check out. Overall I give 9/10!!

Fukashiso

Fukashiso could be one of the loveliest accommodation that I have ever stayed at. The staff were very polite, attentive and extremely helpful and courteous. The place itself is so beautiful and quaint. Traditional garments are provided as an option if you want to dress up for dinner. Made for great photo ops! The Kaiseki was the most beautiful equivalent of a degustation I’ve tried, and it was served in a lovely separate intimate dining area. During dinner Nobu-San a fourth generation family member of the owners greeted us which was a lovely touch. Soba was freshly made at the accomodation. We stayed two nights and the Kaiseki menu was different each time. Breakfast was a nice assortment of Japanese and Western options and the coffee machine was actually pretty good. I enjoyed the onsens, there are two public ones that switch locations for men and women and a private one. They were well equipped and relaxing. Our room was on Level 1 with a private bathroom, seating area and little garden view. Overall this place is highly recommended. For a traditional ryokan experience, it was so nice. Even after we checked out, the receptionist gave us a little gift, and even walked us outside to where our car was parked. Such a warm and lovely place. Stay here for sure!

Location was close to the station. 10 walk but be had so much luggage to roll behind is so 15 minutes. Rooms were cosy. Small as most in Japan are but well heated as we went in fall during a cold day. Service was very pleasant. We were greeted well and shown to our rooms. We didn't get to see the service in action that much because we left early morning after 1 day.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this resort. From the moment I arrived, the staff greeted me with genuine warmth and professionalism, making me feel instantly at home. The property itself is beautifully maintained, with stunning views and thoughtful touches that create a relaxing atmosphere. Every detail—from the comfortable rooms to the delicious dining options—was carefully curated to ensure a memorable experience. I was especially impressed by how impeccably clean everything was, including the public bathrooms and hot spring area. The staff cleaned up immediately after use, which made the whole environment feel fresh and cared for. I truly appreciate the team’s dedication to hospitality and excellence, and I would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a perfect getaway. We are deeply grateful for the extraordinary care shown by the hotel assistant Akemi during our stay. When we were unexpectedly stuck in the snow in a remote area, she walked alone to find us and kindly offered assistance to call for tow truck support. She then guided us safely back to the hotel, even though we had already checked out, and welcomed us with tea and biscuits to keep us warm while we waited. Her thoughtfulness and dedication went far beyond duty, and her kindness turned a stressful situation into a touching memory. Thank you sincerely for such genuine hospitality—it is something we will never forget.

I enjoyed my stay in this hotel . The room is a traditional Japanese tatami room, very spacious for 2 persons with a balcony facing the river and the mountain. Room is just as shown in the photos. The front office staff are very helpful and friendly. They do speak abit of English. Breakfast and dinner were included . Dinner was multi course Japanese meal using seasonal produce . Do advise the hotel a few days in advance if you have any food preferences as they will try to accommodate. Meals very lovely presented . I stayed here 2 nights and dinner menu was different for each night . Hotel is about 20 to 25 min walk from the bus terminal. Best to pack a hand carry bag instead of a trolley bag as certain part of the trail to the hotel is unpaved and muddy after rain . Or check with the hotel for luggage delivery service Hotel also has a 24 hrs indoor and outdoor onsen ! Spacious and well maintained.

Super Hotel Matsumoto Ekimae

The hotel is located about 3 minutes away from Matsumoto Station, and around the hotel there is a 7-Eleven and several shops all within 1 to 3 minutes walking distance. Breakfast was included in the price, and for us, it was one of the nicest breakfasts we had in a hotel in Japan. The reason for this was not only the quality of the food, but also the variety. For Muslims and vegans, there were many options, while in other places the choices can be very limited. The hotel was clean, the amenities were perfect, and the coin laundry room was excellent. The washing machine cleaned all our clothes and dried them within a reasonable amount of time. The hotel room, although small, was good enough to accommodate two people with two large suitcases, and we had no issues at all. A big plus for the hotel is that they have a smart TV, which is not something you get in every hotel in Japan. A final note about the staff, especially the young gentleman (around his 30s) and the young woman (also around her 30s) working at the reception. Both of them were incredibly friendly, warm, and helpful, and often went the extra mile even when I only asked a simple question. The lady working at the breakfast buffet was also very sweet and kind. Please make sure to keep these people working for the hotel, and give them the praise they deserve for their outstanding work. I will definitely want to come back to this hotel if I return to Matsumoto!

The hotel located in good location, with walking distance to the city center area where you can find shops, restaurants, or even Matsumoto Castle. Parking lot provided with fees but it’s quite convenient. The most favorite from this hotel is there’re plenty of amenities – shampoo, conditioner, shower gel from a lot of brands that you can select by yourself at the lobby.
