The highlight was the stunning mountain view from our room, stretching from sunrise to sunset—a beautiful and unexpected surprise. The hotel lobby feels high-class, but the rooms do show signs of age, with a dated interior. However, the onsen experience more than made up for it—spacious, relaxing, and the outdoor onsen offered an incredible view of the ice-covered mountains. A major highlight was the exceptional service. We encountered an issue with our luggage delivery, and three hotel staff members went above and beyond, patiently assisting us and coordinating with another hotel to ensure everything was sorted. Their kindness and dedication truly left a lasting impression. Overall, despite some aging aspects, I’d highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return on my next visit.

amazing hotel, very near to the train station just need to cross the bridge. there is a convenience store with atm just one minute away from the hotel (in between the station and the hotel). good location and friendly staff. free luggage storage provided as well.

I had a wonderful stay at Smile Hotel Nagano. The staff were extremely polite, helpful, and welcoming, which made my experience very comfortable from check-in to check-out. The ambience of the hotel is pleasant and relaxing, and everything was well maintained and clean. The services were smooth and efficient, and I truly appreciated the attention to guest comfort. GGuest UserThe hotel is located about 10-15mins walk from Nagano station and is easily navigated using google map. Hotel provide luggage forwarding service and luggage deposit after checkout. Amenities are not provided in the room but upon check in, hotel staff will inform you to pick what you need from the area at the hotel lobby. It can also be picked up at anytime of the day. The lobby also have a coffee machine serving hot chocolate and coffee throughout the day. Pastry are provided at certain hour as well. One time free Sake tasting per guest where you need to pick up special coin from the hotel staff. Rooms are clean and quite spacious.

Prime location, connected to Nagano station via the overpass, so you don't need to cross the road, super convenient. Our room was a bit small, 15 sqm, and 1 large suitcase, it was a bit cramped.
Would definitely stay here again but will book a bigger room. Arigato Sotetsu Nagano🙂

AAlexIn order to go to the Huyin Shrine to choose this one night, the hotel is near the China Society. Although the hotel facilities are general but very clean, the dinner is a noodles banquet. The taste is very good and completely exceeds the expectations of a small hotel. The breakfast is simple (see Figures 2, 3, 4,), but the taste is also very good. Recommended

LLYvonneOne of the bigger hotel rooms I have stayed in Japan so far. Free welcome cake and drink, free unlimited ice cream during your stay and a small treat when checking out. They also have the most variety of tea available for you to enjoy during your stay.
The hotel is also quite close to the Nagano station. You can see the hotel building when you exit the East exit.

GGuest UserI stayed here for a live concert and was extremely satisfied with this hotel! The room was a bit small, but it's super close to the station. Plus, it was so convenient to be able to store my luggage in a locker both before and after check-in, without having to go through the front desk. For breakfast, the main dish was a burger from the burger joint next door, which came with a drink, and there were also many other side dishes available – I was totally full. All the staff were very kind too. I'd definitely like to stay here again.

GGuest UserFirst of all, the two staff at the check-in counter showed a very strong sense of job burnout on their faces, and the whole check-in process was not very pleasant. However, the next morning during check-out, the ladies at the counter were very professional and everything felt fine.
After entering the room, I found it to be very stuffy and hot. When I turned on the air conditioning, it was only heating. Since the weather outside was quite cool, I understand that the system is centrally controlled and set to heating. I then tried opening the window, but it could only be opened a small amount. For some reason, no fresh air was coming in, and the room still felt very stuffy.
Later, I went down to the counter (again, the same two male staff from check-in) to ask if the air conditioning could be switched to cooling, but my request was rejected. I then asked if it was possible to borrow a fan, and they refused again with a very impatient attitude.
Overall, the stay was not a very good experience. The room itself was actually fine, but it was too stuffy. I hope this review can be helpful to others.

I stayed in the mixed-gender dormitory for 18 nights. In the evenings, I could go to the lobby and meet people from all over the world! The bathrooms had shampoo and other toiletries, and there was a microwave, induction cooker, refrigerator, and a fully equipped kitchen!
Highly recommended!

AAnonymous UserThe hotel is very close to Zenkoji Temple on foot. It is a very special experience to attend the morning class at 6:30 in the morning.
Transportation: Across the road from Nagano Station, the buses to the city are all at the station entrance (both 1 and 7 are OK for Zenkoji. I took 1 bus which is closer. I bought the ticket before getting off). After getting off the bus, you can walk to the hotel in a few minutes.
Hotel service: There was a Japanese waiter on the night we went there, but it was difficult to find someone if something happened.
Hotel food: We booked a one-night stay and two meals. Although they were all vegetarian, they tasted surprisingly good. In addition, I ordered grape juice for my daughter, which tasted special in beige.
Hotel facilities: You can't ask for too much from the facilities of the shukubo. Try not to bring luggage. We stayed in a Japanese-style room on the third floor. If you bring luggage, it will be very difficult to carry it up the stairs by yourself. Plug: There is no USB, please bring enough two plugs; Toilet: Only on the first floor, no room, you need to run down every time if you live upstairs; Washing: Only in the bathroom on the first floor and near the men's bath, it is relatively simple, and there are no face wash and skin care products. Although the room has air conditioning and a gas stove, the overall temperature is not high and it is a bit cold, but surprisingly, the tatami is very warm. I looked at it and it turned out to be Nishikawa's down quilt. The hotel basically has a curfew at 9 pm.
Temple sightseeing: Buy a 1200 pass for Zenkoji Temple at the hotel. Volunteers will lead you to the temple for morning classes at 6:30 in the morning. As an experience, it is very good, but remind you to dress warmly. The time for listening to the chanting is a bit long. My feet are sore from the cold. The volunteers finish at about 8:30. After returning to the hotel for breakfast, you can go to Zenkoji Temple to buy amulets and worship on your own. There are many souvenirs and food, as well as Starbucks on the street directly opposite the main temple. If you are not very tired, you can walk back to Nagano.
We encountered heavy snow when we returned to the temple after breakfast. It felt very good. I wish you all a happy trip.

AAnonymous UserVery good location, just opposite the train station. Reception is on level 2, but staff is helpful to help carry luggages to and fro ground floor.
Room is small and toilet is squeezy, but still decent for a short stay. There is a Shampoo Bar at the reception to pick up stoiletries.
Breakfast is good, the complimentary soba noodles on selected weekday nights is also great. Nice view from the 10th floor, and also free space for customers to chill during the day.
Water was not provided complimentary to customers but instead was earned through a game.
