We would Highly recommend staying at Penyovel Hall. Jamie is a great host and the room was very clean and comfortable with everything we needed. 5 minute walk to the village as well as a great place to walk from and explore canal or hills. Breakfast was very good and the views were amazing and in the summer to sit on the terrace would be just bliss! Oh and the dogs enjoyed it too!

I booked one nights’ stay at Penyvoel Hall as a treat for my friend’s 50th birthday. We hiked in the morning and arrived at the Hall at 3pm. We received a warm welcome from Jamie who carried our bags and showed us to our room. We stayed in the Elephant room which is beautifully decorated, it has a fridge with complimentary beers, tea, coffee, water and chocolate bars. We were surprised that our shower room was across the hallway rather than en-suite, this didn’t pose a real problem – I suppose we assumed that our bathroom would adjoin the room but it wasn’t a problem.  We sat out on the lawn for a while before we went into Llanymynech for our evening meal and played with the owners 3 dogs, it was a beautiful day and the view is stunning. Jamie introduced us to his wife Samantha prior to us going out who was pleasant and welcoming – we were advised that the couple were having a dinner party that evening and having guests stay over. We arrived back at the hall at 10pm having had a wonderful day and evening, we were tired having hiked so went straight to bed. There was a little noise coming from downstairs, but it wasn’t too much at that stage. I fell asleep but woke up at 1:30am to a lot of noise coming from downstairs, singing, shouting and banging. My friend told me that she hadn’t managed to sleep yet due to this. The noise really echoed throughout the house, possibly due to the wooden flooring and not having carpets to buffer any noise. The hosts must be aware of how the noise travels as they live there. I lay for a while trying to get back to sleep but the noise just got worse, I was annoyed as we had paid to stay and the reviews were brilliant which is why I booked to stay at property. Eventually I decided to get up and go downstairs to speak to the owners and ask them to quieten down. Knocking on the door to the room where they were situated brought no response.  I then had no option but to knock very loudly on the door so that they could hear me over the racket they were making. They were clearly all very drunk which I wouldn’t criticise anyone for – I am a party lover myself. However, to entertain friends in this manner when you have paying guests trying to sleep I felt was extremely rude & inconsiderate and I told Jamie this when he eventually came to the door and very patronisingly told me to ‘calm down’. I was so annoyed that I didn’t sleep for the rest of the night. The next morning we went down for breakfast. Jamie & Samantha did apologise, I did feel though that the apology wasn’t genuine, no eye contact was made and the apology I felt was made rather begrudgingly. I almost felt that I was in the wrong for complaining. There was a frosty atmosphere between us all. We told them that we had intended to visit Powis Castle that day but as we were so tired having had very little sleep we decided to just go home. Very disappointing as we had looked forward to our mini-break for weeks and it was a special treat for my friend. Upon our retur

So before I start I am autistic and adhd which means I’m a anxious Anne awkward as hell to please and brutally honest so let’s start. I Was only meant to stay for a swift two night break whilst my kitchen was being finished so I could study in peace. The welcome I received was lovely Jamie explained everything and more to me clearly. It smelt beautiful as soon as you walked in, I was offered use of the study room which is beautiful like the rest of the manner of course. Later that evening Jamie’s wife (I think) knocked on my door with a pint of fresh milk for me to enjoy rather than the mini uht again such a small thing but very nice gesture you don’t often get or have to ask for. I stayed in the French room I didn’t want to leave if I’m Honest. It was that clean That my ocd didn’t kick in at all to do anything it was comfortable and relaxing. Unfortunately I didn’t end up studying at all and ended up spending my time chilling out watching tv snug in the amazing bed. Breakfast was equally amazing with a personal handwritten note explaining once more I could use the study and what else I could have for breakfast if the options laid out for me wasn’t enough. The bathroom en-suite was lovely first shower in a hotel I’ve not scalded myself or been froze under trying to figure out. The lights in the room and en-suite were dimmable which was great for my sensory issues. The door of course had a lock however I felt that safe and secure and trusted the hosts so much I actually forgot to make use of that. The fridge was stocked with some beers which I enjoyed watching Netflix on the tv which was way to use and also had good options so everyone could make use of it or find something they enjoyed at ease. They have dogs at the property I seen 3 very cute fur balls which actually gave me a sense of security (I’m a dog person through and through) they sit at the door and bark when you walk in and out but cause no harm at all and can’t get out they are doing there job of course so don’t feel worried about this. I brought my own food but didn’t need to as they offer a very accommodating menu for evening food. I sadly had to check out early due to work issues so didn’t get to taste or enjoy this part but I’m sure it’s as good as the rest. I actually work in a 4 star hotel and can honestly say this place deserves 5 stars more if it’s possible. Thank you guys for a wonderful pleasant stay.

Lovely big room, with great views across the Welsh hills, in a great old house with lots of character. Really friendly and interesting host. Self service breakfast had everything we needed, for a lovely walk along the canal. Great location, and an easy walk into Llanymynech from the hotel.

This was a very pleasant place to stay. Our hosts Jamie and Sam were very welcoming. The views are lovely and our room named The French Room was beautiful. We arranged to have our evening meal at the hotel and the food and wine were excellent and very reasonably priced. We will definitely be returning.

The room was comfortable and was certainly big enough, clean and tidy. Felt a bit strange walking through the family home to access the room. Didn’t really see the owners as we greeted by a gentleman that’s lives there who showed us to the room, explanation of the keys and the remote for the lights. The same guy served the breakfast. Didn’t see anyone when we left. Breakfast was only cold/continental style. Cereal containers were nearly empty and barely had a serving present. In the room there is a small fridge which had water and beer, nice touch (didn’t drink the beer) however in stead of a kettle they have a device for boiling water that pumps out a quantity of water into the receptacle in place, problem there is - you need to know to place a receptacle otherwise there is scalding water everywhere, the other issue is - taking the whole unit to the bathroom to fill it and you need to fill via a glass or use the bottled water from the fridge.. bad design, just provide a small kettle. Luckily we didn’t come here for the TV services, constant buffering and retry displayed. Was told about the side entrance and road on our last night, prior to that we had walked up and down the steep winding drive to the front.

Communication excellent prior to arrival. After driving up a steep stones drive, we were met by the owners and made to feel very welcome in a lovely old hall that has been tastefully renovated. Our dogs had lots of green space to run freely and as there are resident dogs, it was very dog friendly. A good nights sleep was followed by a great continental breakfast and the hosts made us a packed lunch for our walk. It’s right on the offas dyke and Llangollen canal so plenty of walks to go at! There is a few decent pubs nearby, take aways and a village shop.
