Mama Shelter Marseille

Marseille|0.42km from L'Art de la Fromagerie
After checking out on July 29th, I left my baggage with the hotel crew to explore M****ille, before leaving to another city. When I returned the hotel, my baggage and backpack had disappeared, and the hotel crew did’t know what happened. After the arrival of the security director (I had to insist about his presence) and seeing the security cameras, they find out that a guy entered the hotel, talked to a receptionist that conducted him to the room where all the luggages were stored, than he pointed to my baggage, and the receptionist simply gave him my luggage and my backpack, without any security check (the guy wasn’t even a guest - apparently he entered the hotel to steal baggage). He then walked out the hotel stealing all my belongings. I was then in the first day of my trip with nothing left than the clothes I was wearing. I went to the police station to report the steal, I tracked an iPad that was in my baggage (and saw that it was in the flea market of M****ille), but the only thing the hotel did was offer me a lousy t-shirt “mama loves you”. More than two months have passed and until now nothing has been done and I received no compensation from the hotel. I’m stunned with the lack of security and also with the lack of action from the hotel to at least compensate me somehow. I had to buy a lot of clothes, a new iPad, a valise, a backpack and many other items that were stolen to be able to at least continue with my trip, Besides that, I had to spend hours in shopping, a time that I had planned to use to relax and enjoy the vacations. A terrible experience in the Mama Shelter M****ille.

Had my second stay here, this time in a lovely top floor room with views out across the city towards Notre Dame. Huge LG TV, lovely Nuxe toiletries, monsoon shower, and excellent housekeeping - everything spotless. Good North-African themed tapas in the hotel restaurant, and the guy in charge there was particularly helpful/friendly, recommending which bits of the city had good street art when I mentioned that was one of the main reasons I came to M****ille (Cours Julien fyi, which also has some fab cafes and vintage shops). My only gripe was the handling of the bill (as follows). My debit card was pre-authorised on arrival (and in excess of the actual cost of the room, but I assumed this to be an additional security deposit or similar, do didn't really feel too concerned at the time). When it came to checkout, it was agreed that we would let the pre-authorised amount stand, and I would be refunded the difference between that and the actual, final bill. However, when I checked my bank balance 3 days later I was shocked to find that I'd been billed for the full amount again, and the pre-authorised amount had not been released - so essentially I'd been charged twice (or twice and a bit, when you allow for the fact the first billing was an over-estimate anyway). This follows on from a cancelled pre-paid booking the previous year (due to Covid restrictions) that was supposed to be fully refundable, which I also really struggled to get back (it was eventually repaid but quite belatedly). So, I'm not saying don't stay here, because it is a really nice hotel in a very vibrant area (lots of cafes with fab Oriental pastries, markets etc) but you will really need to be on top of the financial side of things to ensure you aren't left out of pocket.

Recently stayed here at 50Euro per night, The hotel is located a stone's throw away from Vieux-Port in a side street, hence giving you access to town centre, the metro. With a tiny and almost hidden entrance the hotel, its easy to miss. From the rooms you can hear the hustle and bustle even at night however I like this kind of sound and slept with the windows open. The staff were absolutely fantastic (thanks to the 2 gentlemen and 1 lady) and was manned 24 hours per day. The rooms itself are small and quite basic, and not suited to families, but for single or couples looking for a place to stay. You would consider this a budget hotel without any luxuries at 50 Euro at night, id say its fair value. Thanks for the great stay, staff and location made it great

The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. They were always able to provide useful tips on M****ille and took time to research information for guests. As I was also travelling with my dog, they also ensured that his trip was also comfortable by providing a doggy bowl and treats for him. The hotel is situated very close to the old port (5 minutes by foot) as well as the train station (10minutes by foot).

I booked 2 rooms for 3 nights at the beginning of August 2021 and everything was just fine. Rooms was relatively large and clean , staff very friendly and politely and breakfast was good. The hotel is well positioned - only 300 meters far away from the port. From the street the hotel is not quite impressive but overall is a true bargain - cheap, clean and well placed.1 Rooms are exactly like in pictures and the elevator ... well... is unique.

Hotel well located, near the old port. Clean and correct room, but for a short stay. Personal welcomed However, window to repair: it closed badly and let the air pass, the winter must be very cold there
