If you are interested in trekking to see the Rwandan gorillas, and you have the means, this is the place to stay. The retreat is beautiful, nestled in extensive, gorgeous gardens. Each "room" is separate, and is structured similar to a treehouse among forest of tall trees. The rooms are beautiful, with lovely, appropriate decor for the location, and with views of the surrounding trees. Rooms feature Dyson hair dryers, bath tubs, showers, and outdoor showers. Each room has a balcony to enjoy in off hours. Authentic Rwandan drummers and dancers welcome you to the resort upon arrival and when returning from treks. There is a thorough introductory meeting (do attend!) for those going on treks (which include gorillas and golden moneys.) Everyone is also treated to an evening show by these performers, prior to the introduction. Well worth attending. Food is excellent and on the gourmet side, but definitely not too fancy. Included are breakfast, a packed snack from the breakfast buffet, lunch and dinner. One of our party has 5 different food allergies, and the staff was extremely vigilant to his restrictions. Food service is beyond exceptional; everyone is very attentive, even the gentleman building a fire next o your table. Resort also offers massages/spa services, bikes to ride, etc. for guests. There is a dessert bar featuring cookies and sweets in the lobby to also enjoy. The best part of this retreat is the people. We cannot compliment the staff highly enough--kind, polite, caring, and professional. Perhaps the most attentive staff we've encountered throughout the world. We were sad to leave them, because they were good friends by the time we left. The Rwandans have gone through a horrible genocide within the last 30 years, and many of them have a sad past. However, their happy, beautiful demeanor would never give it away. They truly love being of service to their guests. If you do go on a trek, PLEASE hire porters. They are more helpful than you can imagine, carrying your backpack, helping you in the difficult parts of the hike, etc. They are truly grateful for your patronage, as the income is very much needed and appreciated. We cannot recommend the One & Only more. It truly is "One & Only".
