From the moment you arrive, you feel like part of a family. The charms of the Oarsman’s Lodge are plenty. From a dedicated team of friendly staff who, by the way, take pride in knowing the names of every guest, to the beautiful bures all facing towards the Blue Lagoon so you can laze on your porch and swing in your hammock to watch the most amazing sunsets over the water every night. There’s plenty to do there too. You can visit the Nacula Village, where a lot of the staff live. There you will experience the true Fiji, including the stunning voices of the local children as they sing to you from their school rooms. There’s also a hiking trail, a private island you can hire for the day complete (with a picnic lunch and champagne provided), caves you can swim and dive in, or you can just kayak, paddleboard or snorkel all day, just steps from your bure. As for food, the compulsory meal plan provides you with a buffet breakfast, a hot lunch, afternoon tea (with homemade cakes not to be missed at 4PM every day), and a three-course dinner every night. Given the remoteness of its location, the quality of the food is superb. With no children allowed, and the absence of motorised equipment, this location may not be for everyone, but if you want to totally relax and read and experience the calming effect of a Fiji resort, I wholeheartedly recommend Oarsman’s.
