Karunakarala Ayurveda Resort

I had the good fortune of staying here when a group of us had a yoga retreat at the resort. We stayed for about 5 nights at the end of April. One of the things I appreciated the most about the resort is how responsive and efficiently they dealt with our requests (room changes/issues, dietary requests, etc), making and changing our tour and transport arrangements repeatly when our plans changed and helping make sure our stay was as enjoyable as it can be. They speedily checked all 20 of us in upon arrival and brought our bags to our room quickly so that we could turn in for the night as quickly as possible (we arrived at the resort at almost 2am) Another example, my room had AC issues on the first night and it was fixed by mid-afternoon after we reported it to reception. All credit goes to their warm and responsive Resort Manager, Ravindu. He went out of his way a couple of times to make our stay comfortable. The rooms were large and well ventilated. Beds were comfortable and plenty of water was made available. Water pressure was very decent, a great plus as I showered many times to help with the heat. Happy to find that at the block where we were staying they had both electrical sockets that were similar to the ones we had at home (Type G) and USB charging sockets so there was no issues with travel plugs. Wi-fi coverage throughout the resort was strong and stable. There was a good selection of food served at every meal (we took the buffet option) with at least one protein dish (chicken or fish or eggs), a soup dish and plenty of vegetarian options. The food was tasty and I was pleased to be able to sample different types of vegetables and different style of cooking to that found at home. They were accommodating and when a group of us asked if we could have string hoppers served at breakfast, they obliged by serving it the next morning. The resort is beautifully kept and had a really nice laid back atmosphere. It was mostly quiet at the resort save the occasional sounds of trains passing through over the bridge nearby the resort and some planes flying overhead (the airport is about 40mins away). Overall, this resort was a lovely find. Definitely a no-regrets stay

The resort is beautiful and overall it was a pleasant stay. The resort staff were friendly and helpful. The best is Ravindru, the manager, who is very responsible, respectful, responsive and friendly. The surroundings are scenic with the river running along side the resort.

My studio (Prana Yoga KL) hosted its 8th annual Yoga & Pilates retreat at Karunakarala from 25 to 30 April. The resort was beautifully landscaped, the grounds very clean and well-maintained, and the staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating. Ravindu, the resort’s Reservations Officer was particularly responsive to any minor last minute changes, and was on-call to assist us in making our retreat and stay a pleasant one. Our sessions were held at the rooftop yoga hall, a spacious open area that fit all 22 of us (though depending on the time of the year, can get very hot in the late morning onwards, as there are no ceiling fans there due to the low ceiling). We stayed at the Sunrise Deluxe Rooms in the newly built tower. The rooms were very spacious, and clean, and the pillows comfy. Some of us had a bit of air-conditioning issues on our first night there but the matter was resolved very quickly the very next morning. The daily buffet was delicious and centered around the Ayurveda concept of clean and balanced eating. Many of us enjoyed the Ayurveda massage and spa sessions at the resort too. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed hosting our Yoga & Pilates Retreat at Karunakarala. Everything went very smoothly from the first enquiry email, right until our departure. I’d highly recommend this place if you’d like to immerse yourself in one of their wellness/Panchakarma packages, or simply detach from the busyness of life and spend a few days rejuvenating your body, mind and spirit. Thank you, Ravindu and Team for your thoughtfulness and hospitality, and for making our stay a meaningful and enjoyable one.

It was great. The staff and all the services were kind and polite. The hotel was beautiful. The food was delicious. The treatments were great. The doctors were kind. There were plenty of activities. The yoga was good too. Everything perfect.

Cannot recommend this place enough for some true R&R and healing. The staff is incredible - they really care about you and want your stay and experience to be perfect. Ravindu is so extremely helpful when booking your stay and coordinating everything you need before and during! Sangeeth picked us up from the airport and helped a few times after - always a huge smile and happy to help. The restaurant staff of Pinto, Kanishka, Raveen and Palitha were awesome - they helped us understand what all of the foods were, what we should eat and provided friendly faces and conversations during all of the meals! I was lucky to get Sashini for all of my treatments and she was wonderful and extremely kind and friendly. The doctors listened during your conversations each day and really cared about getting you healthy. The retreat itself is one that you will want to keep coming back to for a at least a few days every year for a reset. You completely unplug, eat healthy (but delicious) meals, have effective Ayurveda treatments and feel relaxed and peaceful on your way out. The price point is also incredible for everything you get! My only complaint (which has nothing to do with them) is it was getting really hot and buggy as we were there so I’d recommend going December through February if possible. (They have AC in the bedrooms and restaurant, but you’ll want to spend time outside on your porch and by the river so try to go earlier.)

Lovely resort, amazing therapists, food was tasty though not many options. Staff very friendly and helpful. I think meditation should be for 30 minutes as a new person to meditation, 1 hour is too long, or maybe given the option to leave after 30 minutes. Cookery demonstration was great and eating it after, even better. Downside, the room doesn't get cleaned till after 2 pm, when you return from a treatment tired, you have to wait till they've finished standing outside for up to 15 minutes it's a bit frustrating that they can't do this throughout the day. Also a large group arrived and our yoga and mediation area was moved to accommodate the group and their personal instructor, we were relegated to the library, which I thought was unsuitable and unfair as we are all paying customers. I however would go back and recommend this resort.

A pleasant resort where everyone smiles and tries to care with love and help with health problems. An excellent Ayurvedic diet, intensive treatment and a beautiful environment are perfect for rest and restoration of health. The rooms are clean, well-kept, and quiet.

Definitely, I highly recommend this hotel for its ayurvedic treatments. I stayed here for a 2 weeks' panchakarma and it was very satisfying . They really address the constitution and health condition you've got. Nigha, one of the men therapists, is outstanding. The food is OK, the rooms big , the beds confortable, the garden is nice. The only suggestion would be to avoid fitness trainers like now and hire someone who is a real practitionner of meditation and yoga. This would allow me to put a five stars' note.
