Top 5-Star Hotels in Ningbo

As a Golden circle member since 2003, I always love Shangrila. Very good location, big room size and most of all, outstanding service. The breakfast is also great, the gym is perfect too. But the changing room condition was below my expectations. Not clean and the facilities are too old. The TV in the room….. most hotels have internet TV these days even 4 stars but the TV is too old. It’s needed some upgrades.

New Century Resort Jiulong Lake exceeded all my expectations and provided a truly enjoyable stay. The staff was incredibly friendly, going out of their way to be helpful and offering valuable tips on things to do in the area. 包智慧 was especially kind and helpful! The room I stayed in had a beautiful view of the water, giving it a tropical vibe. The breakfast buffet had a wide selection of delicious options, and the resort was very family-friendly. While it was a shame that the outdoor pool was only open in July and August, the indoor pool and hot tub were still great. The resort's proximity to the Scenic Area allowed for a day of exploration, with hiking trails leading to waterfalls and a lovely temple. The resort was surrounded by lush trees, creating a serene atmosphere that I highly recommend. The option to rent bikes and participate in various activities added to the enjoyment of the stay. I particularly appreciated the pleasant bonfire evenings with music, which provided a nice touch without being too loud. Overall, I highly recommend New Century Resort Jiulong Lake as a place to relax and unwind. It's conveniently located just a 45-minute taxi ride from the Ningbo train station.

The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with modern amenities. The staff were friendly and attentive, always ready to assist with any requests. The location was convenient, offering easy access to local attractions and transportation.

The hotel and service is good, but it is time to revamp and upgrade the rooms. The carpet is old and dirty with stains and a musky smell, furniture is old and chipping off. The television is rather a super old model. The only horrible horrible thing you will experience is the lift, it is damn super slow during the peak period like in the morning from 7-10am you got to wait for like 15mins before being able to get into a lift and down. Overall experience for the brand name Westin this Ningbo one didn't lift up to its name and a overpriced one.

This is an interesting place as it’s old, contemporary style of an area past, dim lights everywhere, traditional wooden panels alongside huge heigh ceilings. It brings back a time of glamour, reminded me of the Titanic in its former glory. Yet the rooms are crammed, I hit my foot twice on the floor bed corner. The staff are friendly and helpful, english is spoken at reception. Would i stay here again? Probably not, as the darkness of the room, ( windows do open slightly) felt depressing. However great location, cross the river and you are in the mids of the city. Ernst , New Zealand

Top in terms of location, facilities, staff friendliness and room standards. Zero stars for the quality of the dining experience, I'm afraid. Mediocre local dishes hopelessly overpriced and way below average by Ningbonese standards. Could have gone to Hanling village down the road or a bit further into Yinzhou for the same or similar dishes at a tenth of the price (and better quality). We felt it was quite an insult and if it hadn't been rather late and we hadn't been starving, we would have gotten up again and jumped in a Didi. My workplace canteen offers similar local dishes at less than 10 kuai/dish (ok, not a valid comparison, I must admit, but even the most expensive local restos don't charge more than 50 kuai either and provide bigger size portions and tastier). The portions were tiny and starters were priced on average at 100+ kuai while the mains, the size of starters, were on average 220+ kuai. Hardly reasonable for some seasonal veggies and 10 tiny rubbery beef cubes. The white wine hadn't been cooled (happens all the time but kinda unexpected if you pay 4,000 kuai a night for a resort in one of Ningbo's prime locations) and it was a cheap bottle priced at nearly 80 kuai a glass. Having stayed in a variety of luxury lakeside venues across Zhejiang over the years, we were pretty taken aback. For me it was the worst value for money food experience during my entire time in China. We loved our suite, the fitness facilities as well as the architecture of the entire resort though. The service was pretty professional and friendly even though hardly anyone speaks English which is surprising given that this place is regularly frequented by non-Chinese speakers from the local areas nearby (and we saw plenty of those for lunch). Also, in comparison to similar properties across Ningbo and Zhejiang, the breakfast was the worst also. Never mind the continental and English style brekkies (sometimes difficult to get right, we get that), even the Chinese dishes were mediocre (such as the soups, fried items etc) which was surprising. Should we return (we practically live down the road), we'll not spend a single penny on food in this place.

Hotel is clean. The room is spacious. Front desk is friendly. The staffs greets you when you comes and goes. Price is decent since I'm paying USD. A little more compared in the area. The hotel shows it's age, including the rooms. I booked the King Bed room at around $100 USD a night. But I like it when they give you 4 pillows and 2 are memory foam pillows which I love. Unlimited bottle waters, they are placed everywhere in the hotel for you to grab. The breakfast has a wide variety. If you didn't book breakfast a day ahead it's 100RMB. If you tell them a day ahead that you'll be getting breakfast the next day, it's 50RMB per person. As I recall it was $13 more when I book my room with 2 breakfasts. I would stay here again.

This time when I stayed was a little disappointing. They were refurbishing the breakfast area downstairs so everything was shifted to what looked to be a conference area or something. This resembled one of those super-old hotels (always something not right about eating breakfast in a carpeted room in a hotel - unless it’s in your room) and there seemed to be a lack of organization across the board. The M Bar is also due a MAJOR overhaul - it really not befitting of a four-star hotel! I went there for a few drinks on my last night, known it would be the last time I saw it like this! One more thing I really don’t like is the pillows in the room - they are so soft they might as well not even be any! That said, I have enjoyed my (first) stay here in July more and if I stay again then I hope to see a better breakfast area and bar -even if the pillows are the same 😂

Very nice and friendly staff, I was trying to decorate the room for my wife’s birthday and special thanks to staff (Ms. Kitty and xiao zhang) who helped me for three hours to finish it. Definitely recommended to stay in this hotel

A very good experience. Outside the window are the green mountains and the rippling lake. A pot of Jin Jun Mei in the room gives you a pastoral and leisurely feeling. This is the meaning of vacation. The housekeeper Xiao Lu is very considerate. He took the initiative to add breakfast and hot spring tickets for the children and gave them a fruit plate, making the trip more comfortable and satisfying. The breakfast, Chinese restaurant and hot spring experience in the hotel are all very good and worth recommending!
