This old dog picked this place as a first-timer to Changbaishan because on paper it reads like a dream:
✔️ 5-minute walk to the Changbai Mountain VIP entrance
✔️ Hot springs inside the compound
✔️ “Eco-exchange” — which I later learned refers to exchanging comfort for character development
Location? Prime marrow bone. 🦴
Reality, however, is a scenic winter obstacle course.
The hotel is thoughtfully scattered across three separate buildings — one for check-in and breakfast, another for hot springs, and because suspense is important in life, the Food Plaza lives in yet another building.
In winter.
On ice.
With wind that slaps.
Not exactly age-old-dog friendly. I waddled. I shuffled. I negotiated with my knees. At one point I believe my soul lagged behind and had to catch up.
To offset this Arctic triathlon, the staff are available 24/7 on WeChat, responding faster than I can type “why did I choose this hotel?” Efficiency deserves a respectful tail wag. 🐾
Now let’s talk Food Plaza, the hotel’s redemption arc.
The food is genuinely scrumptious, warming, and emotionally supportive after being bullied by Changbai winds. Takeaway is allowed — which means you carry it yourself. Eco-exchange again. This dog fetches his own dinner. 🥸
Then there’s the hot spring schedule.

Ah yes — write this review. ✔️
⚠️ Now, the bone that refuses to go down smoothly.
Despite having a relaxed stay, I felt continuously pressed for a 5-star review — on departure day from the first meeting in the lobby to gentle reminders all the way up the bus.
At that point, it stopped feeling like hospitality and started feeling like an exam I didn’t sign up for.
It made me sad, actually — because it suggests staff performance may be chained to guest reviews like sled dogs pulling corporate KPIs.
Trip.com, if you’re listening:
no guest should ever be pressured to review.
The moment reviews are pushed, ratings stop being honest and start being decorative.
This old dog is an independent reviewer.
I don’t bark on command.
I don’t roll over for stars.
And the harder the push, the more my paw hovers over the lowest rating out of pure principle.
Still — despite the ice, the walking, the soul-searching — the location alone makes this a smart base for Changbaishan first-timers.
Just come prepared with:

It's conveniently located next to the parking lot, and there's a shuttle service to help transport luggage to your room. Dining and sightseeing within the scenic area are very convenient. The hotel staff provided excellent service, assisting with luggage and answering all our questions enthusiastically. Especially today, as we were checking out, they recommended Cloud Top Palace, even providing complimentary tickets. They also gave us a small gift upon checkout. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends.

__WeChat269958****If it's your first time visiting, don't hesitate to book this place. They'll take care of everything for you, but make sure to contact the hotel in advance – and I mean *definitely* in advance. You can ask your butler for recommendations on local attractions, how to get there, how to buy tickets, and even how to hail a taxi. They also offer free train station pick-up and drop-off to the scenic area entrance, free skiing, and free hot spring access. If you need a car temporarily, they can arrange one for you (at your own expense), so no worries at all. And the hot springs – you *must* go! Their hot springs are natural and located right within the scenic area. Soaking in the hot springs while it's snowing is truly wonderful. If you avoid weekends and holidays, it's not even crowded.

CChangyousifangThis Mercure hotel (Huazhu Group) is excellent. It's very new and all areas of the hotel look comfortable. The front desk staff were all enthusiastic and diligent, recommending local delicacies and specialty shops. The lobby has a unique design with artistic flair (the murals are copyrighted), offering coffee, tea bags, and ginseng-infused water. Breakfast was also very good, with ample variety and quantity, and featured local specialties like rice sausage, beef soup with rice, Korean side dishes, and thin pancakes, and the baked sweet potatoes were delicious. The hotel is not in the town center, which is perfect as it's quiet and has a large parking lot, ideal for self-driving. We stayed for several days, waiting for suitable weather to go up the mountain. In town, we enjoyed the autumn scenery by the Erdao River, had iron pot stewed fish and ginseng chicken soup, both perfect for the cooler weather. Next time we visit, we'll try a different season and would happily stay here again.

The owner was exceptionally kind; not only did they pick us up and drop us off at the high-speed rail station, but they also drove us to nearby attractions and recommended great local restaurants that didn't disappoint. Their service was thoughtful and attentive throughout our entire stay. We're definitely locking this place in for future visits!

When one of our food deliveries went missing, the hotel staff went above and beyond to help us by checking the surveillance footage. Parking is conveniently available right outside the door. My only minor confusion is why, despite the room being so spacious, the bathroom was designed to be quite small (though it did have a smart toilet and was very clean).

They offered pick-up from the high-speed rail station and VIP access to scenic areas, making it incredibly convenient and hassle-free during the National Day Golden Week holiday. Highly recommended! It saved us a lot of time and was perfect for families with children. The Northeastern Chinese cuisine at the guesthouse was also delicious, and our whole family was very satisfied. The view from the guesthouse's observation deck was also fantastic, offering panoramic views of Changbai Mountain.

AAnnhuiwanThis grand, old-fashioned hotel offers great value for money. All the staff were incredibly welcoming, especially those in the restaurant on the second floor – everyone had a smile on their face. There's a large open field right opposite the hotel, perfect for building snowmen if it snows! This time, I was thrilled to watch fireworks from my room, which was a lovely surprise.
I didn't get to try the hot springs this visit; the outdoor ones apparently only open at 6 PM. Also, the breakfast selection was a bit limited. It would be great if they could add more variety, especially if there are a lot of guests.

MM741677****The front desk staff were quick and professional. We even got a room upgrade! The hotel's location is great, close to the North Scenic Area, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. The breakfast had a good variety and tasted delicious. The environment is exquisite and comfortable, and the hygiene is clean and tidy. The hotel staff were exceptionally nice, especially the front desk lady. During the 817 Rice Festival, it was impossible to find a taxi, so the hotel even arranged a car to pick us up.
