Hulbert House Luxury Boutique Lodge Queenstown

Queenstown|0.23km from Four Square Queenstown
My wife was at a conference in Queenstown, and I went along as the hanger-on. From Nelson, it's not that far. She didn't want to stay at the conference hotel, and decided that Hulbert House looked nice. She was right, nice it was. Very very nice. I've stayed in hundreds of hotels. I used to travel the world, five months a year, for work. I can honestly say that I now have a new favourite hotel. And it's Hulbert House. From the welcome to the farewell, it couldn't have been better. Jay, Jade and Martina could not have done any more to make us welcome. And we had the place to ourselves. There were no other guests during our stay. That's pretty special. When you're handed a menu at breakfast and told ”it's just a guideline”, and to ”let us know if there's anything you want special tomorrow”, you know you're in somewhere that is just good. New Zealand has good coffee. Hulbert House has great coffee. That breakfast just sets you up. Out all day and you come back to a warm house, scratch-made canapes and superb wines, all complimentary, you're on a winner. The house is imeccably decorated, the rooms unique, and plush doesn't do it justice. Someone knew what they were doing when they designed this place. It's special. Queenstown itself is a great place, my new favourite hotel in the world made it even better. Thank you. Even though we now live on the other side of the world, I hope we will be back.

The Carlin Boutique Hotel

Queenstown|0.34km from Four Square Queenstown
The Carlin Hotel is a stunning property. The views from the balconies are glorious. I really liked the location - just outside of town, so that it is convenient to everything but during the busy holiday season, it’s on a quiet street. It’s a steep walk back from town, but after all the eating we were doing, we didn’t mind. The rooms are beautiful, tastefully decorated. The staff is attentive and friendly (shout out to Patrick who went out of his way to make a stay special). The food at the restaurant is good - we had Christmas dinner at the hotel and it was really delicious. Breakfasts we tasty and plentiful. If you’ve looked at booking this hotel, you know that it is REALLY expensive. They bill themselves as a six star hotel, but at this price, I’d like even five stars to be perfection. Cons - the air conditioning is wonky. It kept shutting off in the middle of the night and we’d wake up and not be able to get it on again. Our family had the Vista and Panorama Suites and the adjoining king rooms had absolutely no windows - of course this is because of the layout of the hotel which is built into a hill - but not only was there no natural light, but it felt like a fire hazard since the only way out in case of emergency is through the door into the hall. One evening, when the restaurant where we had a reservation was out of food (this seems to be an issue during the holidays in NZ), we went back to the hotel before 8:30 p.m. and were told the only food we could order was from the overnight dining menu, when the hotel menu clearly states that the entire dinner menu is available until 9 p.m. - the food was still tasty, but the menu was extremely limited. Other than that, the stay was heavenly and I’d gladly come back and stay again.

LyLo Queenstown, an EVT Hotel

The location was the best part for us. It was very central in Queenstown and surrounded with many good restaurants, bars and shops. If you are planning on skiing or doing an excursion there are many pick up spots and tour operators near the hostel as well. The room was a good spot to sleep. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was clean and they provided a nice small space heater to keep the room warm if needed. We didn't have any body wash on our first night in the shower, we reported to the front desk and they gave us a couple of bars and we were told that they would replace in the morning but when we came back it was unfortunately not replaced but we did get another small bar of soap. The remote in the room was disgusting and covered in what I imagine was at one point part of some good fried chicken or possibly pizza but everything else seemed to be fine. Check in was a little tricky because there is self check in/check out tablets at the entrance. We couldn't figure out the right combination of booking reference number and name because we had received Jucy's confirmation code in a separate email. The attendant did offer to help us out but we got the right combo at that very moment. You can pick your cards to activate them and we had no issues with this part but later that evening my card deactivated and I went to the front desk a second time to get it working on our first night. The hotel has some very good signage and arrows to tell you where your rooms are and the amenities (rooftop bar/restaurant, laundry room and kitchen area). The hotel seems to be more of a party hotel and when we arrived there was lots of drinking and people having a good time. This went well into the night and the noise seemed to travel well down the hallway from the rooms that were hosting. We could also hear our neighbour coming and going throughout the first night but it was relatively quiet between 12-6. We picked this hostel for the location and to save a little bit of money for excursions. It did get very busy in our area the first night we were there but after that we had no issues with the traffic. It was a 15 minute ride to the airport in the Uber and the bus stops at the nearby Stanley St bus hub and only takes about 25 minutes to go to/from the airport with limited traffic.

This is my second visit here which speaks for itself I guess. I spent five days here over the Christmas holidays when the place was very quiet, which suited me...but is probably not ideal for a standard review. It is however perfectly situated, central without the noise and minutes away for food shopping. There are plenty of toilet/shower areas and two reasonable size kitchens with a nice outdoor balcony to relax on. The only slight draw back for me are the dorms are somewhat ”cosy”, and the kitchen is not the best stocked in the world. Other than that it's a good place to be...and Steph and the team do a good job of keeping the place ship shape. Recommended
Eichardt's Private Hotel

We're very frequent travelers, frequently stay in nice hotels, and can sometimes run the risk of being jaded; Eichardt's might be one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in. Where do we start...the stunning location, with the picture postcard Queenstown view from the balcony. The super-personal service, especially from Tom and Casey -- the staff remember not just your food preferences but what you were up to that day, your temperature settings in the room, and your tastes in wine...top notch. The superb, complementary wine tastings in the parlor every evening, allowing us to sample a broad range of New Zealand wines without committing to entire bottles. The recommendations for activities and meals tailored to our tastes. The most comfortable bed we've had in a hotel...the list goes on. Make your way to Queenstown now and stay at Eichardt's.

Our room (room 8) is basic but has everything you need. Heater , towels , space, window. Our room was warm and comfy. Shared bathrooms and toilet were clean. Kitchen and lounge was tidy and very spacious lots of places to sit. Location is amazing !! 5mins walk to anything. Staff were lovely as well. 2 thing is that we could hear everything happening up stairs , walls are a bit thin but lucky we are deep sleepers and then lastly we found some belongings of previous stayers under our bed. Other than those 2 things very happy with our stay.
Scenic Suites Queenstown

Good location, comfy room with balcony with partial sea view. Had everything you needed but was a bit of a strange layout in the whole complex. To get to our room from reception we could get part of the way by a lift but then had to go outside twice to get to the right block. However, there was parking in the basement which had a direct lift up to the floor we were on. Like most places in Queenstown, there was a lot of building work going on & roadworks which made things a bit awkward but not impossible. Staff were friendly & helpful. There was a restaurant on site but we indulged in room service which was excellent.
