Orestone Manor is a lovely small family run hotel which gets practically everything right. The staff are lovely - full of smiles and help without being over the top. We had a deluxe room (Room 3) which was large and comfortable with a good seating area and a lovely view to the sea. Of course, it is an old hotel so the fact that the floor has a little slope shouldn't be a surprise. Trying to find something negative is a problem but here goes! The shower is small and has only has a waterfall shower head. There is no way of adjusting th flow and when it is on, it really is a waterfall! The problem is that the shower is so small that there is no way of avoiding it. hardly a disaster. There is also a bath but no grab handles which is a problem for oldies! The restaurant is even better. The breakfasts are good but the evening meals are exceptional. The menu is relatively small but everything we had over our three day stay was great and each day there were some changes.

This is a good hotel: beautiful old manor house; superb views of the sea; better than average food. The reason I give it give it 4 stars rather than 5 is because my wife and got the feeling several times that the management was doing us a favor letting us stay there rather than that the hotel was there to serve us. Upon arrival, you are issued a long list of rules. You are required to decide the night before what time you will come to breakfast. The front desk kindly did some laundry for us but made it clear that this was a highly unusual indulgence. It's a subtle message that the hotel management sends (though the line staff are pleasant) but it is manifest most clearly in the fact that the hotel feels the need to respond in detail and refute the complaints cited by other reviewers on Trip Advisor. Stay here but don't exist the customer to always be right!

My wife and I have visited the Orestone for many years. Last evening we had the valentines dinner. Each course was outstanding. The fillet steak melted in your mouth. The staff were excellent as always. A perfect evening in superb surroundings. Thank you.

We had a terrific long weekend at Orestone Manor. We were a party of six, staying in the three deluxe rooms - all of which were very comfortable, with beautiful fixtures and fittings and very good sea views. The lounge and terrace areas are charming, taking full advantage of the beautiful hillside setting. The food was exceptional. Every meal was delicious, with large portions of well cooked locally sourced food. We all went to bed full every night! Breakfast was always very good too. But the best thing about the hotel was the friendly, welcoming staff - it's a family run establishment and the familial touch was everywhere. We will definitely be returning.

Came here for lunch on the recommendation of family. All four of us had three courses and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Fresh and tasty, and nice and hot. The service was lovely too, attentive and friendly. We will definitely return. I can recommend the Oreston Mess dessert!

Stayed one night dinner, bed and breakfast to celebrate our anniversary. We live locally and wanted somewhere not too far away as we were leaving teenagers alone for the first time. Our stay really exceeded expectations. All the staff were fantastic and made us feel really welcome. We had the four poster suite which is enormous with wonderful sea views and a really comfy bed. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent- beautifully cooked and more food than we could eat. The whole package was great value and I couldn’t fault our stay- thanks to all the team. We hope to come back!

Once more a fantastic peaceful stay - shocking weather on drive down but a super warm welcome on arrival, as always. Staff couldn't be more helpful, or friendly, and the food is always excellent, as is the whole place - location, rooms, lashings of hot water and lovely log fire. This is my favourite of places in England - my only hesitation in writing a glowing review is that it will become too popular and so become fully booked when I next wish to get away for a while! Enjoy this boutique hide away whenever you can, you won't be disappointed.

Stayed here for 3 nights had a delightful, comfortable room with lovely sea views Fantastic food and great atmosphere Exceptionally helpful and friendly staff. We did two of the recommended walks which were quite challenging and certainly gave us an appetite for dinner

Stayed here from 6th Oct to 9th Oct on an 3 for 2 night deal. Hotel location is down a track from a very sharp exit off a main road, not ideal but main hotel is clean with free parking, about a 7 minute drive from Torquay. Reception and bar staff very helpful and friendly. We stayed in a deluxe suite with jacuzzi, separate from the hotel, went to use the Jacuzzi but found it had quite a few hairs floating and dirt inside it, there is a £50 charge if you want it draining and fresh water adding so we didn't use it, decking around it was dirty due to it being October I suppose but could benefit from a jet wash, the pictures on the website show new decking but this must have been from installation. WIFI in suite terrible, not too bothered about this but the TV's work off this and constantly kept losing connection. Mood lighting in the suite but could not get it to go back to normal lighting so we had to get the staff to reset it, remote has no instructions and not user friendly at all, battery cover fixed with blue tack! Our suite was never swept or hoovered throughout our stay as they were bits all over the floor, underfloor heating in bedroom did not work, yes we did have it switched on but it never came on. We booked a meal in the restaurant for the first night and went outside for a quick drink but was ushered back in by the waiting staff as we were told we had to be sitting at the table for the correct time we booked, we could understand this if the restaurant was full but there were only 4 tables eating. Food was nice but overpriced, we have eaten better food for less at restaurants. We ate out for the remainder of the stay. Hotel is very quiet and seems to cater for the older generation, I read a review on here earlier before we booked and dismissed it but it was mainly 60s plus with no atmosphere really. We think the hotel needs bringing up to a more modern era keeping with the times. Breakfast was ok, my wife sent her poached eggs back as her plate was full of water where they were not drained, no apple juice and had to ask for it, didn't eat breakfast on the third morning as it was just mediocre with again no atmosphere. Breakfast staff not really engaging, just there to do a job. Overall we were satisfied with the stay as we had 3 nights for the price of 2 but if we had paid full price then it would not be value for money, it didn't blow us away as we first thought when booking. It is more of a place for the older generation and for this reason we would not return.
