In mid-May, I met up with friends to temporarily stay at Yuejingwan for one night. It was already 10pm when we arrived. While resting on the balcony, I happened to catch a glimpse of the two innkeepers who were having a drink with their guests. The older brother helped his slightly tipsy younger brother upstairs. I have long heard that Chaoshan people value family ties, and they are indeed well-deserved. This scene may seem ordinary to the two boss brothers, but it is undoubtedly a ray of light for a mother of two like me! The inn that brothers and sisters work together to manage is really a spiritual home that can temporarily relieve my anxiety and heal the pain of raising a baby.
At night, accompanied by the sound of frogs croaking one after another, I fell asleep with the mountain breeze on my pillow. In the early morning, I was awakened by the chirping of birds while half asleep. There was no time to count the stars in the night sky, no time to watch the sun rise in the east and set in the west, and no time to experience the swimming pool at the back of the inn, which offers a panoramic view of the core landscape of Wanfenglin, as well as the constant-temperature soaking pool. With eyes full of nostalgia for this pastoral picture, I had to leave in the dim morning light at dawn and return to the crowded crowd. Even though we are separated by thousands of rivers and mountains, I think I will come again to see this beautiful pastoral scenery with faint clouds on the mountains and the moon hanging on the top of the mountains.
Three months later, my sons went to summer camp, so I gave myself a long vacation. I started from Chengdu all the way to Xichang and Kunming, and met my dear friends who are far away from me but still in my heart. On the way, we visited Dali, which is crowded with people, and the last trip was arranged to visit the isolated Wanfeng Forest.
I still chose Yuejingwan Inn, which I didn’t have time to experience last time and has a great location. This time I specially booked a 60㎡ Baguatian smart landscape suite to have a ”happy ending” for the holiday and birthday. The hardware facilities of the inn are also very good. After five days of traveling and traveling, I felt like a tired bird returning to its nest, so I crawled into the soft and comfortable bed and slept comfortably all afternoon.
There are two panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows in the room. Lying on the bed, you can enjoy the rolling green hills and slightly yellowed rice fields under the blue sky and white clouds, listen to the wind, and enjoy a rare personal vacation.
Join a group of guests in the lobby tea room to taste a variety of fine teas collected by the innkeeper. During the chat, I learned that today is my birthday, so the boss invited me, a lonely birthday girl, to eat Chaoshan beef hot pot with them in the evening! The enthusiastic bosses noticed my restraint. Mr. Wen cooked the beef himself and Mr. Wen brought out the good wine. However, I am allergic to alcohol and have no connection with fine wine. It was the first time in my life to celebrate my birthday with strangers. Unexpectedly, I was taken care of like a brother by my bosses! Although I had celebrated with family and friends in advance before coming, the steaming beef hot pot meal for my official birthday actually brought tears to my eyes.
This is also the reason why I usually don’t choose cookie-cutter hotels but only bed and breakfasts when I travel. Meeting beautiful scenery and warm people unexpectedly are the most precious memories during the journey.
Checking in is casual and feels like home; the fruits provided are fresh local grapes, and the owner of the inn is warm and generous, without too many businessmen's fuss. They are more like two hermits in the mountains who like to ”make wine with pine flowers and boil tea with spring water”. They treat the world's leisure guests, settle in Jingliang Bay, warm a pot of tea, drink a cup of turbid wine, and talk about the long life together.
Next time, I will definitely bring my husband and I to bring our two sons, who are beaten to a pulp every day, to Yue Jingwan, and ask the innkeepers to teach them how to get along as brothers.
