Another great visit to this lovely B&B. We have been several times and it has always been immaculately clean and comfortable . Our room was very comfortable and cosy , with a good shower . The hosts Hilary and Paul are very welcoming and friendly. Breakfast , freshly cooked, to order is really good. The house is situated on a main road but it lies back do traffic noise has never been a problem. It is approx 2 miles from York designer centre with shops and a fast food court. The Park and ride runs from there to the centre of York , far better than trying your park in York , which is always difficult .

This was our 2nd stay at Westergate House, and yet again, it was absolutely perfect. Our upstairs room was a very generous size, with the most amazing bathroom with walk in shower. Breakfast is absolutely first class, so much so that we didn't eat again until late at night. And having home made cakes and biscuits in our room provides that special extra touch. We will always try and stay here for whenever we want to visit York. Thank you Paul and Hilary for yet another beautiful stay 😍

We stayed here for five nights in the Field and Farrow room and for the first time ever I couldn't find fault with anything. The room has a comfortable King size bed with two bedside tables that offer a large amount storage. There is a large chest with plenty more storage for clothes and a large Sony TV on top that offers all the Freeview channels. There is a comfortable two seater sofa in the bay window with a small coffee table which is ideal for playing card games. A nice size wardrobe in the wall has plenty of hanging space and there is vanity unit with a mirror and radio alarm system that you can connect an iPhone to. The room also has a mini fridge which you can use throughout your stay to store beer, wine, soft drinks and water. Bed sheets are changed every three days and they are very soft and the pillows are also comfortable. Each day the tea and coffee is replenished and when we got back to the room each night we found a different selection of cakes waiting for us, which were delicious. The bathroom is lovely with a walk-in shower, toilet and vanity unit sink that has a large illuminated mirror above it. Towels are changed every two days. The shower is excellent and has an overhead rain shower head and a smaller shower head. The shower screen cleans itself if you give it a quick blast with the hand held shower. Hilary and Paul are the perfect hosts, both are friendly and down to earth and they want you to have a perfect stay, nothing is too much trouble. Breakfast is superb, and the range on offer is amazing and whatever you choose it is cooked to perfection. We were offered fruit toast on the first morning and Paul made sure we had it for each breakfast as well as the delicious strawberry jam. You can have full fried breakfast or pick and chose what you want. There is a selection of fruit juices, fruit and yoghurt and cereals as well as fresh croissants. The whole house is tastefully decorated and very clean, the guest lounge is huge and is made up to be like a home from home. The frontage is huge and there is plenty of on-site parking, which is a bonus these days. The B&B is located right near a bus stop where you can catch a bus into York every 15 minutes during the day, which cost £4.50 per person and takes about twenty minutes. We ate at a couple of the pubs that were recommended and we were not disappointed. I could keep writing for hours, but I think it is clear that we were very happy with our stay and will definitely be returning. It is in a ideal position to investigate Yorkshire and all it has to offer or if you are intending on visiting York, do yourself a favour and stay here!

Stayed here for 2 nights as we were attending a wedding at The Oakwood in Ryther. We stayed in the Yorkshire Pudding And Parkin room which was beautiful with a huge bathroom with a free-standing bath and an amazing waterfall shower. Lovely touches were the cookies and homemade cakes each day in the room, and the coffee machine was a welcome addition. There was a fantastic view over the large garden, a “living” roof garden and a pond with huge fish! Hilary and Paul were great hosts, going out of their way to make our stay special. Hilary made us coffee and homemade scones on our arrival, and the breakfast choice was large and plentiful. Paul kindly drove us to collect our car from the wedding venue the next day which was a huge help! The house is beautifully decorated and situated in large gardens. It’s only a 15 min walk into Escrick where we enjoyed a drink in the Fat Abbott and a tasty meal at the Thai restaurant. Had we been unable to get a table, Hilary advised we were more than welcome to bring takeout food back to the house and she’d have provided us plates and cutlery to eat with. Highly recommend Westergate House to anyone visiting the area!

Return visit. Fabulous stay as before. Room very well appointed, with the very welcome addition of homemade cakes and cookies, fridge with fresh milk and a wide range of tea and coffee which were replenished daily. Tea/coffee, scones and cakes were available on arrival in guest lounge, very welcoming with a log fire. Breakfast options were excellent. Hosts are very pleasant, full of knowledge about local area. Booking highly recommended. Stuart and Elaine Harvey

We chose to stay at Westergate House during our visit to York, because of all the excellent reviews that it had received - we were certainly not disappointed. Westergate House was outstanding. The owners (Hilary & Paul) couldn't do enough to make our stay truly memorable. The rooms were first class - spacious, spotless, warm and quiet. Hilary kindly juggled her reservations to enable our family to have adjacent rooms. After a very comfortable night's sleep, the exquisite full English breakfast really set us up for a day of sight-seeing in York. We would thoroughly recommend Westergate House for anyone visiting York that are looking for a slightly out of the city location (5-6 miles from city centre). We will certainly be back again when we are next in the area.

Our recent stay at Westergate House York, was nothing short of outstanding. It was a special birthday treat for my wife and were welcomed by owner Hilary who was a delight to meet, and provided us with a welcome treat of tea and cakes in the longe. Our room was very spacious and comfortable with a large bathroom including a walk in power shower, all spotlessly clean with lovely garden views. The hotel which feels more like a delightful family home, with a beautiful lounge for use by guests, and very tastefully furnished throughout. The property is very close to all nearby attractions including the city of York. We met Paul, Hillaries husband who was also a delight to meet. The choice of breakfast that was served by Paul was outstanding, cooked to perfection. The owners were very attentive and helpful throughout our stay. They made our visit feel very special. We would have no hesitation in recommending Westergate House Hotel to anyone wishing to visit the area. And we will certainly be returning to this gem of a hotel. M. and E. Woods.
