Theres a lot to be said for The Morritt Hotel and Spas superb location - at the gateway to the North Pennines area of outstanding natural beauty surrounded by the Teesdale countryside yet just off the A66 a 5-minute drive from the market town of Barnard Castle where The Bowes Museum houses world-class collections of European fine and decorative art. The splendidly preserved Raby Castle is also at The Morritts doorstep. The motoring-themed Garage Spa has everything you would expect from a 5-bubble retreat as rated by The Good Spa Guide a full range of thermal experiences and relaxation areas as well as 6 treatment rooms including a Rolls Royce couples suite. Dining is also a highlight with Gilroys Dining Room awarded a coveted 2 AA Rosettes for its exquisite food. Dickens bar and bistro offers a very different - but no less enjoyable - dining experience. Youll have to visit to find out more about The Morritts literary connections. Rooms start at classic and go all the way up to executive; free Wi-Fi satellite TV and exclusive The Garage Spa toiletries are provided as standard. Theres also free parking on-site. An award-winning country house hotel with an equally acclaimed restaurant and spa - its little wonder that The Morritt is a Classic British Hotel. A Classic British Hotel / CB. Stay inspired.

"A lovely traditional country house hotel. The public rooms were just what you expected, old world charm, the food excellent but the best asset  was the friendly and helpful staff. Unable to comment on bedrooms as we were in an accessible room which wasn’t great, good parking though. Needs attention to basic customer requirements, overall a great few days"

At the 4-Star Beamish Hall Country House Hotel, BW Premier Collection you will find delightful accommodations, close to Newcastle upon Tyne and Durham. However, this classic country house hotel is a desirable destination in itself, set in a vast 24 acres of manicured gardens in the beautiful English countryside. The hotel boasts an 18th century stable block on site, that’s home to a pub, restaurant and microbrewery. The brewery produces eight premium quality ales and even offers tours explaining how these delicious ales go from keg to mouth. An Edwardian tearoom can also be found in the hotel, serving quintessentially British afternoon teas. For a little adventure in the countryside, the Beamish Wild Outdoor Adventure Park and High Ropes Course just so happens to be located in the hotel grounds, so why not test your nerve of the zip wires and Powerfan freefall. This 13th Century Country House hotel in Beamish has been lovingly restored to include all the modern comforts you could need. However, you can be rest assured it has not lost any of its traditional grandeur or heritage. There are stunning period features, including ornate ceilings, carved oak fireplaces, chandeliers, stained glass windows and a sweeping staircase. These elegant structures are found in all of the reception rooms, and simply must be taken advantage of for elegant weddings affairs. The dedicated team of wedding staff will do everything they can to ensure you day is just as perfect as the venue. At the Best Western, you’ll be just a 25 minute drive from Newcastle, a huge center for business, with a wealth of attractions and a bustling nightlife. Durham is also 25 minutes away so why not head to Romanesque Durham Cathedral and 13th-century Durham castle, waiting to be explored in this romantic city? Please note: guests with dinner included in their stay are entitled to a 3 course meal excluding steaks.

"Overall good, quiet and tidy, breakfast is delicious, the bar is good, snacks and wine are very good, the room has a particularly large shower, there is no small shower that can be taken down, but the water is great, we are a family trip, give me Ma Ma took a good-looking photo, the front desk lady is also very enthusiastic~"

If you are an adventure seeker, why not try out the Tees Barrage White Water Centre and ride the rapids on the 95-metre course, one of the steepest in the UK, and only a six-minute drive from the hotel? Our hotel rooms are fresh and modern spaces with 50-inch HDTVs and good-sized work areas. Feel rested after a great night's sleep on the comfy bed and stay connected with free WiFi and plenty of device-charging spots. Start your day with Hampton's complimentary buffet breakfast.

"Very clean and modern hotel just a short walk from Stockton High Street (incidentally, only 16 minutes walk from Thornaby rail station which is the better option than Stockton station itself - ironic that the town that gave us the railways has a mostly abandoned rail station!) Reception staff were friendly and efficient allowing me to check in early to get to the Stockton Calling festival. Buffet style breakfast didn't disappoint either! Will definitely be returning!"

Best Western Walworth Castle Hotel looks like you’re about to stay in a medieval fortress, but the experience is closer to a slightly ******* Premier Inn with turrets. The castle exterior is genuinely impressive. The inside feels like it was last renovated during the English Civil War. Creaky floors, questionable décor, piggy smell breakfasts and recepcionist smile thicker than the castle walls. That said, it’s strangely charming in the same way old pubs and abandoned stately homes are charming. Not luxurious, not modern, but definitely memorable.

I had a very satisfying stay. On my journey from York to Edinburgh, I made a point of stopping for a night in Durham to experience the romance and elegance of a traditional English small town. This Hotel Indigo is converted from a historic local school, so from the facade to the corridors and even the rooms, the original style is beautifully preserved. The room was quite spacious and well-equipped, and the staff were all very warm and attentive. The breakfast was also excellent, a mix of buffet and à la carte. Overall, I was very happy. It would have been even better if the air conditioning in the room could have provided a bit more heat. I imagine we'll return to this charming town in a few years – looking forward to our next visit!

At 4 PM, during peak check-in time, I wasn't allowed priority for luggage retrieval. I was told to queue with everyone checking in, and the staff's attitude was extremely arrogant, making me feel discriminated against! My Uber was five minutes away, and I had a 4:40 PM train to London; waiting in line for luggage would definitely make me miss it! I waited for the front desk to finish with their current guest and then tried to explain my situation. However, the front desk disregarded the circumstances and insisted I queue up. I don't know if this lack of understanding is part of British culture; if so, I apologize (I hadn't considered 4 PM as peak check-in). If not, the hotel should apologize to me! In the end, even the British people queuing for check-in couldn't stand it. After consulting with a few people behind them, they let me cut in line. Retrieving my luggage took only about 30 seconds. Thankfully, I made my train, phew.

We really enjoyed our stay, the location is ideal and the grounds were beautiful and quiet! The staff were very friendly, welcoming and professional! The only downside was that our room had only one plug socket that we could use.....just not enough these days, even just for basic needs..... very poor unfortuneatly. Air conditioning would have been welcomed, we would therefore definitely avoid this Hotel in summer months for this reason alone. One other small irritant, our bathroom had a glass shelf above the sink which tilited heavily towards the sink, so we had to be very careful to ensure things didn't keep falling over. Our breakfasts were excellent (apart from the Omelettes), and the service staff were very welcoming....a great start to any day!

Absolutely spotless and finished to a high standard. Decor is modern and appealing throughout. Staff are helpful. Lovely restaurant and fantastic coffee served there. The only slight issue I would say, is that you can hear guests in the next room very easily and this isn’t desirable for obvious reasons. We sadly ended up with very noisy guests in the room next to us the first night we stayed and this caused considerable disruption to our sleep pretty much all night. Saying this, we didn’t notify the staff though (so they may have been able to help) as there was no phone in the room. The next night was fine and completely silent so this would be dependent on who you have staying near you.
