DoubleTree by Hilton Edinburgh - Queensferry Crossing

We arrived early cuz we wanted to do laundry. However unless you go to a laundromat the hotels don’t have machines-they send it out. We dropped ours off later afternoon and they had our clothes returned by the next day. It wasn’t cheap.. we always pack lightly with a carry on to do laundry but it wasn’t as convenient when we had rented a Airbnb for a few nights since electricity is so blooming expensive you have to air dry everything and you need at least 2 days! The room & bathroom were large compared to many of the inns we stayed at.. the breakfast buffet had the standard Scottish offerings…you could ask for fried eggs but not omelets (I didn’t ask but couldn’t see ingredients) If you have a car-drive to the Ferrytoll park and ride. Free parking and take the bus into Edinburgh. There’s usually parking spots on the lower level. It’s easy and about $12/2 people round trip (I think). Just pay by card and tell driver you want round trip.

Stayed here for a week, whilst visiting family. Our room was very clean, and the bathroom was a great size. The bed was massive! And extremely comfortable - so much so - we didn't want to get up! Lol Breakfast was good - although a choice of egg would have been nice, instead of scrambled each morning. The only other thing that needed improving was the awful coffee from the machine. I had a latte machiato twice - the first was just frothy milk and little coffee - the 2nd was awful - literally ended up with a mouthful of bitter coffee grains. 🤑 However, the price of the hotel, together with the comfortable room, friendly staff and quiet location means we will DEFINITELY return.

Great location - close to the Park and Ride station, walking distance to a big supermarket and petrol station. Everything is hardly and staff are very friendly. Definitely will come back and stay next time.

Next to the golf course, this is an old hotel. It is clean, but very old. The hot and cold water in the taps are separate. The hotel also provides heating in the summer evening, so it is very quiet. There are many small animals to walk around and meet unexpectedly. It is suitable for self-driving. There are also bus groups staying. The surrounding environment is very good, there is a lawn suitable for weddings, and the sunny breakfast restaurant is also impressive.
Kilconquhar Castle Estate

Stayed in Room 20, which was a generous size, and easily fitted my husband, son and I. We ate in the Bistro each morning, and twice for our evening meal. Cannot fault the food or service in any way. Diane especially was a font of knowledge and breath of fresh air, bringing her local knowledge, hints and tips to guests. Facilities on the estate were just what we needed, snooker, golf, and scenic walks. The younger children seemed well catered for with daily activities and events put on by the leisure staff. A lovely, relaxed visit.
Rusacks St. Andrews

A very low-key hotel, not easy to find. Pay attention to the flag of Scotland hanging at the door of the store. There is also a sign with the name of the hotel on the side of the building. If you forget which side it is on, you can also pay attention to it. From the train station, you can take a local bus and get off at St. Ann's bus terminal or the closer Grannie Klarks Wynd (Wynd means small road) station. The hotel is across the road. There is heavy traffic, so be careful when crossing the road. The service staff at the hotel are very welcoming! Feel at home! The hotel is very clean and can withstand the strictest health inspections! Very happy with this! Photos cannot express all the goodness of the hotel...the view is excellent, especially the breakfast area. The location is also great, very close to the beach and main streets such as Market Street. highly recommended.
Fairmont St Andrews - Scotland

We originally visited Fairmont St Andrews in August 2021 since we could not visit the country of our choice due to the pandemic. We were super impressed with it, so much so, that we decided to revisit this August. We looked at other options such as rental homes and other hotels but nothing came out as giving us value for money. Rental homes don't have the benefits of a hotel and its facilities and other hotels were charging ridiculous prices as a like for like basis. The Fairmont in St Andrews came out the best value for money. We enjoy the Fairmont as it has the feeling of a resort hotel abroad. The service is spot on too. Just little niggles - that come from having previously stayed - so it is human nature to compare. This time I felt the cleanliness of the rooms was not as good. It was only some dust in the room and in the bathroom so it was not worth complaining about to reception. Secondly, and this come from maybe you being short staffed, is that the breakfast plates on tables were allowed to accumulate to the state where it did look quite untidy. I'm only mentioning these things to you in order for you to nip them in the bud and not allow a decline in standards over a longer period of time. Overall our stay was great. Breakfast is sufficient enough to keep you going until dinner. The atrium is a relaxing place to read a book and play cards. The swimming pool and spa facilities keep a family entertained. Thank you for another enjoyable staycation. Joanne
