The Norbrek Castle must have been lavish and upmarket in it's day but sadly looks sad and depressed now. However, we knew this when we booked and opted for it because of it's good points, the location is good with bus and tram stops outside, there is plenty of parking with an assured chance of finding a space if you take the car out and return, the room was as clean as it is possible to clean an old property with clean bedding and towels, the breakfast is basic but again satisfactory and the staff helpful and friendly. We did not, on this occasion use the pool or any of the entertainment facilities. All in all an ok choice for a couple of nights as somewhere simply to sleep

The hotel and entrance are great, no complaints there. I’ve been a regular at another hotel within 5 miles of here, where the facilities are immaculate and the rooms are always meticulously clean. So I had high expectations.
On walking into my room (250), it was freezing. I immediately turned on the electric radiator, but was woken up at 2am by the thermostat flicking on and off repeatedly. The digital screen kept lighting up and going off it felt like there was a rave in my room. Highly annoying and not conducive to a good night’s sleep.
Before bed, I went for a shower and splashed foamy suds around as you do. After finishing, I was washing down the inside of the shower cubicle and noticed what I thought were leftover soap suds near the door handle. I went to wipe them off and I can tell you now, they were not soap suds.
Absolutely disgusting. The previous occupant clearly lacked basic hygiene, and although it shouldn’t be expected, the cleaners really need to have a keener eye for detail. This sort of thing should never be missed.

Excellent stay, excellent dinner, excellent spa experience and breakfast buffet that is second to none!
The Mecure really do know how to provide a great customer experience and every single staff member is courteous, polite, helpful and friendly.
The rooms are enormous and if you are lucky enough to get a courtyard one, your eyes are in for a treat.
Sue and Lucy in the spa are marvellous and even the chambermaid staff, especially Deborah worked with a smile and was helpful with directions. If you stay in a courtyard room you will understand why directions are needed. 😀. All in all I had an absolutely fantastic Mother’s Day stay!

Guest UserThis was my second stay at the hotel, and once again it did not disappoint. I first stayed here last August with my family, and this time I returned with my husband for a peaceful getaway. The calm, relaxing atmosphere made our stay truly enjoyable. A lovely place to unwind, and we would happily come back again.

The person who checked us in on the Sunday was very pleasant and welcoming.
We walked the grounds and they were lovely and very well looked after.The Spa and pool were excellent.
Thank you for providing such a lovely hotel for us to stay at and spend time visiting with our Lancashire relatives.

Guest UserHotel was spotlessly clean and staff very helpful. We upgraded to executive room that was nice but the view out the back wasn’t too great but didn’t spoil anything. We had lovely night away. Food is good the weather was amazing and the gardens are nice to sit out. Couldn’t get into the therapy rooms for massage as they were fully booked but we did only book to go to the hotel a few days prior to going. Pool areas are clean

Reception staff were pleasant. Driver was the friendliest.
Was a good stay but I wouldn’t say it wowed me and felt staff could’ve been more attentive. Also lack of room service, evening snacks, fridge, tv channels, alternative pillows etc.
also hotel said they didn’t receive my special requests I’ve added to the trip booking which meant the birthday we were celebrating was overlooked.

I took my daughter to university, and this is the hotel next door. I initially chose it just because of the location, but I was blown away. It has an old-school, vintage feel. The fireplace in the lobby even has real wood. I'm hooked. I'll definitely stay here again next time I visit my daughter.
