Guest User: Beautiful hotel (about 7 min walk to the station) and was a great Ryokan experience as the room was traditional and had a breath-taking view. Futons were sufficiently comfortable - but wished there was the whole Ryokan welcome and fanfare. Staff was welcoming but did not speak much English though they had papers of English instructions all ready. There was a free shuttle out of the hotel at fixed timings to the nearest Shinkansen (Unazukionsen Station) Onsen was relaxing and was supplied with good quality products for every aspect of grooming. Lots of vending machines were available, there was a souvenir shop on site though pricey. We just did not enjoy the corridors as it gave out a creepy vibe (due to it being an older establishment), hence, we did not enjoy moving around the hotel). Facilities were beautiful and well preserved. Food as part of the experience was a good and large helping. We opted for the full seafood experience but it had a lot of sashimi or cured seafood which was not to our own liking (we did not really know what we signed up for, really our fault!) Breakfast was a good spread and really hearty. A lot of traditional and local specialties to experience! Overall a great stay! (Shops in the vicinity closes at about 5pm and open at 10am)

The Biggest Surprise in Hokuriku|A Century-Old Hot Spring in the Canyon, More Worthwhile Than Ametsuchi Coast The most worthwhile 1000 JPY spent on the Hokuriku trip Is the century-old hot spring in Kurobe Gorge—Kuronagi Onsen Whether it’s the staff, the workers seen along the way, Or even the tourists on the opposite train, everyone greets each other when the train passes by The sense of ritual is full, making the atmosphere lively for everyone I chose the sunniest day to go but didn’t get a viewing seat However, what my eyes saw was more valuable than any camera or phone! · Take the Unazuki—Nekomata small train Get off at Kuronagi Onsen Station, then walk about 15–20 minutes The walking path is narrow all the way, weaving through the canyon forest Autumn colors deepen, the sunshine is bright, and you feel completely immersed · This century-old hot spring located deep in the mountain canyon Is hosted by the proprietor, with a bathing ticket costing 1000 JPY Renting a large bath towel is 350 JPY, but you don’t need to rent if you bring your own The owner is an elderly gentleman who gives a very detailed introduction There are: men’s bath, women’s bath, and mixed-gender open-air baths The introduction page also has a very detailed route map, so no worries at all · Soaking in an open-air hot spring deep in the mountain canyon is simply a blessing on earth It was the biggest surprise of this trip! So relaxing If you come to Toyama and have planned a trip to Unazuki, I strongly recommend you experience this century-old hot spring It’s more worthwhile and more relaxing than the crowded Ametsuchi Coast! · On the way back, don’t forget to check the small train schedule Alpen Cheesecake next to Unazuki Onsen Station The Alpine cheesecake is also worth trying! When transferring at Shin-Kurobe Station, I was lucky to see the snowy mountains · Finally, thanks to the staff at Kuronagi Onsen Station When I arrived at the hot spring that day, I realized I had lost my JR PASS I had almost given up hope! But when I asked on the way back, The staff had found it and put it on the workbench for me—double luck! · In Toyama, I discovered an off-the-beaten-path destination with no tourists Wandering in the century-old hot spring among the forest canyons Is truly one of life’s great blessings! Your best autumn place in Japanese Alps
The most beautiful season is about to start in Japan so starting from the end of October you can already see the mountains in different shades. If you didn’t know Japan also has Alps and my god how beautiful it is! Want to repeat my itinerary? Then here’s your idea: 📍We started in Kanazawa, took morning Shinkansen, 1,5 h and you are in Unazuki onsen village surrounded by mountains in clouds. You can spend some hours walking around the village or visiting onsen with this gorgeous view on the red bridge. The onsen is located in the hotel and starts working at 1pm. The name is Unazuki Yamanoha 📍Then the fun begins when you take open Tourist Railway into Kurobe Gorge. You have to choose open cars to enjoy the views and feel the atmosphere while the train takes you far in the mountains. There are some stops on the way but keep in mind that once you go out you have to buy new ticket! 📍We stopped at Kanetsuri for an hour, if you can I would suggest 1,5 hours to enjoy the nature, take a small hike to the nature onsen down the river and to just calmly observe. On the way the views are changing all the time and if you are lucky you can see monkeys following the train just 1m away from you. 💡TIPS: · buy all the tickets in advance as there is strict and limited access · have some snacks with you as almost all the cafes work till 3-3.30 pm · on Kanetsuri station there is small shop to buy something but don’t get your hopes up much · in case you are in the village around 6pm there is Lawson where you can grab some food · you can go further to another station which has just been opened after an earthquake but as far as I know it’s not that interesting.#japantravel #naturalwonders #mountainview

To reach this station you must take the Toyama Rail slow train from Shin Kurobe. Just across from Kurobe Unazukionsen Station where JR Shinkansen operates, coming from Tokyo. From overseas better book online to Trolley Train office.It is a pity that we miss the Autumn Foliage and plan to return again next year 2926 to stay again at GrandViro Hotel excellent dinners and breakfast, and Onsen.
