It’s simply not on any “budget alternative” list for ancient towns — traveler post in Shibing

It’s simply not on any “budget alternative” list for ancient towns

Whether called the “Venice of the East” or the “Taiji Ancient City,” when the Wuyang River snakes through the town in an S-shape, painting the town into a natural Bagua diagram, you should know—Zhenyuan is simply not on any ancient town “budget alternative” list. There’s no over-commercialization here, only the genuine, lived-in atmosphere accumulated over 2,200 years. By day, it’s a flowing ink painting; by night, it’s like stepping into the real-life version of Spirited Away 🎑. The key is, foreigners have long secretly listed it among “China’s Most Beautiful Ancient Towns.” 🌅 【Explore the Ancient City, Unlock the “Offbeat Paths”】 · Qinglong Cave: A must-visit! Known as the “Southern Hanging Temple,” Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism are directly “attached” to the cliff. Standing at the Jade Emperor Pavilion overlooking the full Taiji diagram instantly broadens your perspective. · Zuangu Alley: Don’t just walk the main street! Dive into Sifangjing Alley and Fuxing Alley to see “offbeat” architecture (doors open at an angle to prevent wealth from leaking out), with bluestone slabs polished shiny by time—this is the soul of the ancient city. · Shipingshan Sunset: Climb before 7 PM for free, reach the top in 20 minutes, and watch the sunset spill over the S-shaped river bend 🌇. 🌃 【Night Tour on the Wuyang River, Where Lights Flicker】 As the lights come on, the ancient city instantly transforms. The night cruise is a must (about 80 RMB), with red lanterns reflecting in the water on both sides, as if walking among the stars ✨. Besides sightseeing, Zhusheng Bridge and Xinda Bridge are prime spots for night reflection photography 📸. 🍜 【Locals Approved! Food Tips to Avoid Tourist Traps】 Remember the motto: dive into the alleys, don’t eat by the river! · Sour Soup Fish: Avoid big riverside restaurants! Go to “Miao Ama” in Fuxing Alley or “Guangming Red Sour Soup” on Lianhe Street, where tomatoes ferment naturally. Locals flock here, and 60 RMB per person is enough to eat your fill. · Breakfast pick: Yuanjia Tofu Old Shop (tofu pudding and tofu balls are amazing). · Summer refreshers: Ice sweet wine at the foot of Xinda Bridge and iced jelly on the street, 5 RMB a bowl, lifesavers in summer [cite:11]. · Barbecue: At night, head to “Old Place” beside Zhusheng Bridge, enjoy grilled rice field fish with the river breeze—pure bliss. ⚠️ 【Real Experience, Avoid Detours】 · Transportation: High-speed rail goes directly to Zhenyuan Station, then a 10-minute taxi ride to the ancient city (about 10 RMB). · Tickets: The ancient city is free to enter! Qinglong Cave is 60 RMB, Shipingshan is free before 8 AM. · Dress code: Wear flat shoes! The bluestone roads are uneven; high heels are “torture devices.” Average temperature in June is 25°C, bring a light jacket for mornings and evenings. · Accommodation: Stay in a river-view room between Zhusheng Bridge and Xinda Bridge, with a window view like an ink painting; if you’re sensitive to noise, avoid the area below the bar street.

The secret place hidden in the mountains of Guizhou! Peak forest cloud sea + sour soup fish, this round is so cheap! — traveler post in Shibing

The secret place hidden in the mountains of Guizhou! Peak forest cloud sea + sour soup fish, this round is so cheap!

Shi Bingyuntai Mountain: 50 dollars packed up a sea of karst clouds, there are so few people that you can hear the breathing of the peak forest From Kerry to Shibing, the mountains on both sides of the highway gradually change their appearance. No longer round slopes, but suddenly pointed peaks of stone, like the green sword that God had casually inserted into the ground. "There's a black wash ahead," Uncle Cheung, who runs a farmhouse, turned the steering wheel hard, and the car was dizzy on the Panshan road. "Don't underestimate this place. It's a World Natural Heritage Site. It's 10 times cleaner than Lai Po. The ticket is only $50. It's worth the fuel." The parking lot at the entrance of the scenic spot adds up to less than 10 cars. The ticket inspector in a blue cloth shirt was dozing on the table when he heard the sound and raised his head, "Come in, walk along the wooden canyon, 3 hours can make a circle," he pointed to the east, "If you want to see the sea of clouds, take advantage of it, now go just in time to catch the sun penetrating the peak forest. 🌄 Black Rush Peak Forest: Sea of clouds surges underfoot By the railing of the “Observation Deck,” you can touch the shadow of the clouds. After climbing the wooden canyon for 40 minutes, I suddenly hit a sea of white clouds, the top of the peak forest drilled out of the clouds, like biscuits floating in milk. The uncle in a rush suit is holding his camera, the camera is pointed at the "penholder peak" in the distance, "Look at those three peaks, do they look like a brush?" The white air he breathed mixed into the clouds. The call of the Echo Wall can scare a flock of birds. Standing on the edge of the cliff and calling, the sound crashing through the peak forest, the echo of “Hey—” “Hey—hey—” just fell, and dozens of chickadees “Plunge” flew out of the trees and weaved back and forth in the sea of clouds. “This stone transmits sound,” Uncle Zhang worked as a ranger there when he was young, “the villagers used to look for children and stand there and scream, and the whole village could hear it.” The lone pine on the cliff grows diagonally, its beards dig in the cracks, and the pine needles hang drops of water left by the clouds, dripping on the canyon. The light and shadow of the "downhill road" can dye people gold. The 3pm sunlight, just in time, leaked through the crevices of the peak forest, casting long patches of light across the wooden canyons. The girl in the white T-shirt walked in the spot of light, her shadow stretched so long that she seemed to step on a web woven with gold thread. “No filter for taking pictures at this time,” he took a selfie, holding up his phone, “sunlight is the best lighting board, and the face shines through.” The ferns on the roadside were stained with dew, and the sunlight illuminated them as if they were sprinkled with broken diamonds, and in the dewdrops of a certain leaf, a scaled-down version of the peak forest was reflected. 🚶 Leisure on the hike: footsteps and mountain breeze talk The stone benches of "Mid-Levels Pavilion" are warmed by the sun. Tired of climbing sitting in the pavilion, the wind drilled up from the valley with the scent of pine needles. The grandmother who sells roasted potatoes carries a bamboo basket up, the potatoes in the charcoal pot are "sizzling", "5 dollars a piece, ready-to-roast," she poked open the potato with chopsticks, butter popped out, "order a little chili powder, it's better Chips in the city.” The pavilion pillar is engraved with a visitor’s message, “Winter 2018, snow covered the peak forest” “Spring 2023, come with it”, the latest line is “Just dropped the ring, please pick it up!” The decaying leaves of the "primitive forest" look like carpet when stepped on. The second half of the road drilled into the woods, and sunlight could only force its way in through the cracks of the trees, spelling out patterns like broken glass on the ground. The roots of the tree were plated on the stone, like an old man's hand holding a fist, an old hiking bag hung from a certain tree, "It was left by a donkey friend last year," said Uncle Zhang, pointing to the mud on the bag. Next to the stone monument of "End", hides Katano Orchard. As we circled back to the starting point, we found a wild kiwi tree behind the stone monument, with green fruits hanging from the branches, as if there was no little lantern lit. "You can eat in September," Uncle Zhang picked a leaf and rubbed it, "it smells fragrant, right? It's a sign from the mountain that it's about to reach the top." Several students who had just come down the mountain were sitting by the stone monument sharing snacks. 🍲 Taste at the foot of the mountain: with the hardness of stone The spiciness of fish in sour soup can force out the fatigue of climbing. Uncle Cheung’s farmhouse has a sour soup hot pot on a wooden table. Tomatoes and ginger are floating in the bright red soup. The fish is picked from the mountain stream ," Aunt Cheung threw vegetables into the pot, "with fish licorice, to relieve thirst." Fold a chopstick of fish meat, tender like tofu, the spiciness of sour soup mixed with the fragrance of wood ginger, eat to sweat, then drink a sip of rice wine, the whole body of the bones are loose. The smoothness of gray alkaline dumplings can be swirled in the mouth. Gray alkaline dumplings made with glutinous rice, cut into strips and thrown into sour broth, cooked until translucent, like a piece of soft jade. “This is a specialty of Shibing,” Uncle Chang served me a bowl, “made with glutinous rice soaked in straw ash, you can’t eat it anywhere else.” It’s a bit tough to chew, absorbing the flavor of sour soup, chewier than noodles, served with fish in sour soup, one bowl is not enough for another bowl. The aroma of stir-fried pork belly with folded ear root can spread half a street. The bacon is home-smoked, black and dark, fried in oil to be as bright as amber, and the folded ear root is dug from the mountains in the morning with mud. "Some people can't get used to this taste," said Auntie with a smile, "but those who know the goods like this smell, like the taste of the mountain fried into the dish." Folding a chopstick, the salty flavor of the pork mixed with the fishy smell of the root, the more you chew, the more addictive. Served with corn rice, you can eat two more bowls. 📍 "Effort-saving tricks" for climbing Yuntai Mountain · What to wear: Non-slip shoes! The wooden canyon will grow moss in the rain, which is very slippery; wear a thin jacket in spring and autumn, the wind is strong on the top of the mountain, you can tie it around your waist when it's hot; don't wear white pants, it's easy to stick to mud in the primeval forest and can't wash it off. · What to bring: A small backpack will do! Fill bottled water and a little snacks, not too heavy, climbing tiring; power bank essential, photographing the sea of clouds is very energy-consuming; garbage bag must be brought, see someone throwing plastic bottles, Uncle Cheung will chase and scold. · How to get there: Recommended clockwise loop - entrance to the scenic area → observation deck (see the sea of clouds) → echo wall (call) → half-mountain pavilion (eat roasted potatoes) → primeval forest (shadow) → end, the whole 3.5 hours, novices can walk. · Pit avoidance reminder: Don't believe the roadside "leading the way and taking shortcuts"! It's a wild road, dangerous; don't buy expensive water in the scenic spot, the grandmother of the half-mountain pavilion sells it cheap, 5 dollars/bottle; don't climb in the rain, although the sea of clouds is beautiful, but the road is slippery, safety first. As I left, Uncle Zhang stuffed a bag of kiwi fruit into the trunk of my car. "It's green, it'll be ripe after a few days," he slapped the car hood. "It's best to come next March. The mountains are full of azaleas, more beautiful than the sea of clouds." The car drove far away, and Pinnacle was still there in the rearview mirror. Suddenly I felt that the $50 ticket was too cheap - there are no crowds of people here, no commercial hawking, only peak forest, sea of clouds, mountain breeze, and people willing to walk slowly. Sometimes, the best landscapes are hidden in places that are underestimated, waiting to be measured little by little with their footsteps by those who know the goods. Practical information · Transportation: 2.5 hours by car in Guiyang (navigate "Shibing Yuntai Mountain Scenic Area", the last 10 kilometers are mountain roads, many bends); · Tickets: 50 dollars/person, 60 years old and above free, students half price, super high value for money. · Best time: March-April to see the mountain red, September-October autumn high air to see the sea of clouds, December-February occasionally snow, peak forest wearing snow hat, like ink painting. · Egg: The "mountain store" at the entrance of the scenic spot has wild dried kiwi fruit, 20 dollars / bag, sweet and sour chewy, better than the supermarket bought pure natural.

Between Mountains and Rivers: The Thousand-Year-Old Ancient Town — traveler post in Shibing

Between Mountains and Rivers: The Thousand-Year-Old Ancient Town

Zhenyuan—A Town That Holds Time Still and Keeps the Noise Away On weekends in Beijing, it’s either smog mixed with flying willow catkins or sudden rainstorms carrying sand and dust. The only refuge is to reminisce at home about a hidden gem of an ancient town—Zhenyuan, which once brought peace and relaxation. p1-p4 The Niuyang River uses water as ink to write a giant “S” between the green mountains, embracing the ancient city into a yin-yang Tai Chi symbol. As early as 202 BC, Emperor Gaozu of Han established Wuyang County here, marking the beginning of this ancient city’s story. For over two thousand years, the city’s location has remained unchanged, and its cultural lineage unbroken. In the first year of the Shaoding era of the Song Dynasty, it was named “Zhenyuan Prefecture,” a name still in use today. Known as the “Key to Dian and Chu,” Zhenyuan is the first gateway from the Central Plains to the southwest. Throughout history, dynasties stationed troops here for defense. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, merchants gathered in large numbers, building eight major guild halls. All caravan goods coming from Yunnan and Sichuan had to be declared here before being transported by water to Hunan and Jiangsu-Zhejiang. In the 11th year of the Guangxu reign in the Qing Dynasty, the Qingxi Ironworks began construction here as a product of the Self-Strengthening Movement. The “Tianzi No. 1” steel ingot in the Zhenyuan Museum is now rusted but still bears the heavy aspirations of an era. p5-p7 The deep stone alleys hide dreams of the Ming and Qing dynasties. In the Four-Square Well Alley and Renshou Alley, known as “crooked paths,” the bluestone roads have been worn smooth by time. The alleys bend at odd angles, flanked by high walls; moss climbs the stone steps, and the carved window lattices have faded, yet they perfectly depict a simple and serene way of life. Zhenyuan is not yet connected by high-speed rail; the Zhenyuan Station, opened in 1974, now only serves regular trains. Amidst green mountains and clear waters, people wash clothes at the dock in the morning and relax by the stone bridge in the evening. Imagine personally experiencing this leisure and embracing the philosophy of “always leaving room for flexibility, where every corner holds a world of possibilities”—the journey’s hardships are well worth it. p8-p10 Qinglong Cave hangs in midair like a chess game left behind by immortals. The ancient architectural complex, blending Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism, offers an excellent vantage point to overlook the entire ancient city. The pavilions grow close to the cliff face, with flying eaves and upturned corners reaching toward the river’s center. From the tower, you can see the stilted buildings on both banks packed tightly together, their blue tiles forming a continuous patch, with smoke curling up from cooking fires. The 600-year-old Zhusheng Bridge was started by the local Tusi of Zhenyuan during the Ming Dynasty. After enduring multiple floods, it was gradually stabilized in the first year of the Yongzheng reign in the Qing Dynasty. Coinciding with Emperor Kangxi’s 60th birthday, it was named “Zhusheng” (Blessing the Emperor), embodying the prosperous vision of a dynasty. p11-p13 In a corner of the western city lies a courtyard called “Heping Village.” During the War of Resistance, it served as the second prisoner-of-war camp under the military and political department, detaining over 600 Japanese prisoners. Influenced by the “humane treatment of prisoners” policy, these foreigners, once blinded by militarism, gradually awakened. They formed an anti-war alliance and went to the front lines to call for peace. Zhenyuan, with its gentle heart, slowly heals painful memories and constantly reminds everyone that peace is a river longer than war. p14-p18 From dusk to nightfall is the softest moment in the ancient city. Red lanterns light up one after another, reflecting in the water, broken by the sound of oars and then gathered again by the rowing. Immersed in this scene, you can almost hear the bustling docks of the Ming and Qing dynasties, but if you listen closely, what touches the heart most is the deep, quiet flow of the water. When you come, it ripples a layer of emerald waves in your heart; when you leave, it leaves a waterside town in your dreams.

Zhenyuan Ancient Town — traveler post in Shibing

Zhenyuan Ancient Town

Zhenyuan Ancient Town is located in the eastern part of Guizhou Province, at the junction of Hunan and Guizhou provinces and three administrative regions. Its strategic location has earned it the title "Key to Yunnan and Chu, Gateway to Eastern Guizhou." In the 30th year of King Zhao of Qin (279 BC), Tancheng County was established here, marking a history of over 2,300 years. In 1986, Zhenyuan was approved by the State Council as a Chinese Historical and Cultural City. In 2020, Zhenyuan Ancient City was designated as a 5A-level tourist attraction by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. It now boasts one 5A, two 4A scenic spots, and 12 national cultural tourism brands, enjoying reputations such as "Top Ten Ancient Tourist Cities in China" and "One of the Ten Most Beautiful Ancient Cities in China." Features of Zhenyuan Ancient Town: Natural Scenery: The Wuyang River winds through the city from west to east in an "S" shape, dividing the ancient city into two parts and naturally forming a Taiji (Yin-Yang) diagram. The northern bank is the government city, and the southern bank is the guard city, representing the Yin and Yang points of Taiji. Surrounded by nine mountains and towering stone screens, overlooking the ancient city reveals breathtaking and perilous views. Ancient Architecture: The city is dotted with ancient buildings such as towers, pavilions, halls, temples, ancestral halls, and guild halls. The Qinglong Cave ancient architectural complex, known as the "Southern Hanging Temple" and "Guizhou Ancient Architecture Museum," clings to cliffs and hangs in the air, with a tower every five steps and a pavilion every ten steps. Its carved beams and painted rafters are masterpieces of craftsmanship, gathering the finest mountain and water pavilions from across the world in one place. Culture: Zhenyuan prospered through military and commercial activities, with a rich blend of military, commercial, and ethnic cultures coexisting harmoniously, making it a true "traditional cultural maze." Climb the ancient city wall atop Shiping Mountain, visit the Four Officials Temple in the mountains, explore the Wu King Cave in the east of the city, and discover over 200 military settlements scattered throughout the county. The spirit of "clashing swords and sounding drums" evokes a heroic atmosphere. Folk Customs: The fusion of multiple ethnic groups has nurtured colorful folk customs, producing two national intangible cultural heritage items. Additionally, the Suona Festival of the Shangzhai Tujia people, Miao New Year, Dong New Year, and the Ancient City Lantern Festival each have unique characteristics, showcasing the charming style of the "land of song and dance." Zhenyuan Ancient Town~Stay a night in a stilt house and fall asleep to the sound of water all night!

Hidden in Guizhou’s thousand-year-old water town — stay in an ink painting scene for about 700 RMB per person! Zhenyuan Ancient Town is not Jiangnan, but it’s better than Jiangnan. This thousand-year-old town, with the Wuyang River winding through it in an “S” shape, backs onto Qinglong Cave and faces clear flowing water. White walls, black tiles, and stilt houses stand densely; when morning mist spreads, it looks like a flowing ink painting. It’s low-key, quiet, full of local life, and not overly commercialized—perfect for slow walking and quiet viewing. The best part—2 days and 1 night is enough to explore the highlights, and you can have an immersive experience on a budget! 🌸 Best months to visit: April - October Most recommended May-June: pleasant temperatures (20-28℃), abundant river water, lush greenery on both banks, and avoid summer crowds; July-August: good for escaping the heat, but occasional heavy rain, watch out for floods; night tours with lights + riverside BBQ are very enjoyable; September-October: crisp autumn air, folk activities during National Day, great for photography; ❌ November to March next year: damp, cold, and foggy, some attractions closed, scenery a bit bleak. ✅ Recommended time: late May or late September, stable weather, fewer tourists, cheaper accommodation. 🕐 How many days are suitable? Recommended 2 days and 1 night to cover the core highlights. Zhenyuan is small but worth slowing down to feel the rhythm. It’s best to base yourself at a Wuyang River riverside guesthouse and explore by walking and small boat. ✅ Day 1: Arrival + Initial exploration of the ancient town Exit from Zhenyuan High-Speed Rail Station, take bus No.1 or taxi (about 15 RMB) to the ancient town. In the afternoon, stroll the [Shiping Mountain Trail] and climb to the top (free) to overlook the whole town—the “Taiji diagram” shaped Wuyang River encircles the ancient town; After descending, walk along the riverside trail from [Xindaqiao Bridge] to [Zhusheng Bridge], check in at the [Qinglong Cave Ancient Architecture Complex] (60 RMB entrance fee)—a cliffside temple where Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism coexist, known as the “Southern Hanging Temple”; In the evening, find a small riverside restaurant to enjoy authentic sour soup fish (about 40 RMB per person), then take a night tour of the ancient town: thousands of lights reflecting in the river, as beautiful as a dream. Stay in a stilt house guesthouse by the Wuyang River, open the window to see the water, standard room about 150 RMB/night. ✅ Day 2: Morning light + in-depth wandering Get up at 6 AM to photograph the empty ancient streets and misty river surface; Visit the [Heping Village Site] (free) to learn about the Anti-Japanese War history; Stroll through the old street area of [Sifangjing Alley], explore century-old shops and handmade craft stores; Take a small wooden boat to float on the Wuyang River (10 RMB per person) for a different perspective of the ancient town; Check out before noon, return or optionally head to the Shiyang River rafting (optional, ticket from 80 RMB). ⚠️ Tip: No need to rush attractions! The beauty of Zhenyuan lies in wandering and daydreaming. 💰 Budget for ordinary travelers (per person): Round-trip transportation: High-speed rail to Zhenyuan Station ≈ 300 RMB (convenient from Guiyang/Changsha/Chongqing) Local transportation: bus + short taxi rides ≈ 30 RMB Accommodation: riverside guesthouse ×1 night = 150 RMB Meals: 60 RMB per day × 2 days = 120 RMB (intestine rice noodles 10 RMB, tofu pudding 8 RMB, cured meat fried rice 12 RMB) Tickets: Qinglong Cave 60 RMB (half price for students), other attractions mostly free Boat/rafting experiences ≈ 20 RMB Total: about 780 RMB, can be squeezed to under 650 RMB with careful budgeting 📌 Tips: Student ID, teacher ID, and military officer ID get discounts at most attractions; Bring your own camera, early morning and dusk light are the most beautiful; Not recommended to buy expensive “boat tour packages,” riverside individual boats are more affordable; Guesthouse owners often provide free travel tips, chatting more brings surprises; Free alternatives: Shiping Mountain, Wuyang River trail, old streets and alleys are all free! ✅ Must-see highlights: Wuyang River night reflections: S-shaped river + lights on both banks, one of China’s most romantic ancient towns; Qinglong Cave cliffside architecture: a thousand-year-old temple built on a cliff, breathtaking; Shiping Mountain panoramic view: overlook the “Taiji ancient town,” a true feng shui treasure; Early morning Sifangjing Alley: wet stone slabs, elders sweeping courtyards, full of local life. 🔚 Conclusion: Zhenyuan is not a place for “checking in,” but a place to slow down and find inner peace in the sound of flowing water. Two days and one night, less than 700 RMB, for a dreamlike journey forgotten by time in eastern Guizhou. Come, stay a night in a stilt house, and fall asleep to the sound of water all night.

Shanmu River

Shanmu River is located in the mountains of Shibing County, Qiandongnan Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. The annual water flow is 4.2 cubic meters per second. It is known as the "Mineral River" because of its pure water quality and safe self-guided rafting. If the scenery is the only attraction for tourists, Shanmu River is nothing in Guizhou, where there are many real mountains and real waters. However, as a river with fast currents, rafting on Shanmu River is another highlight in Guizhou. If you get permission, you can even drift directly to the county seat.

Shanmu River Rafting

It rained heavily the night before, and for safety reasons, the rafting didn't start until noon. Although we waited a long time, it was still worth it. The canyon was serene, and the water quality was good. Except for the last section, which was a bit thrilling, the water was mostly calm, making it suitable for both the elderly and children.

Yuntai Mountain Scenic Area

The scenery was beautiful and the ticket price was cheap. If you try to do all the routes, it will take 6-7 hours. My husband got lost after Zhougong Temple and ended up in the Shanmu River rafting area! I drove 30 kilometers from the Yuntaishan Visitor Center to pick him up!

Wuyanghe National Scenic Area

After several days of rain, the sun finally came out during our boat trip on the Wuyang River. The scenery on both banks was beautiful. The boat trip took about an hour. When we reached Gaobei Lake upstream, the boat asked if anyone wanted to disembark and explore. We were told that after the trip, we could return on our own, or stay on the boat and return to the dock. Since no one knew what was there to do at Gaobei Lake, everyone wanted to return to the dock. Just before leaving the scenic area, we saw a sightseeing bus and curiously asked where it went. We then learned that if we disembarked at Gaobei Lake, we didn't need to find our own way back; the park provided shuttle buses to take everyone back to the parking lot. Later, when we went to the Huayang River to see the roses, we finally understood that the rose fields were actually at Gaobei Lake. The crew hadn't explained it clearly…

Zhenyuan Ancient Town

Zhenyuan Ancient Town is a 5A-level ancient town in Guizhou with a history of over a thousand years. The S-shaped water system of the Wuyang River creates a unique Tai Chi landscape. The biggest highlight is that the ancient town is open to the public free of charge, with restrained commercialization, preserving a strong local atmosphere. The stilted buildings, ancient alleys, and Zhusheng Bridge are highly recognizable, and the night view has a remarkable atmosphere, making it suitable for leisure, relaxation, and photography.

Feiyun Cliff

It is a very remote place, 40 minutes away from the bus of Huangping County. Most tourists drive there by themselves. Because, from the bus to the intersection, you have to walk one kilometer. How can there be such a beautiful scenery in such a remote place? I can't figure it out! I searched and found that this place was the main traffic route from the Central Plains to Myanmar🇲🇲 through Guizhou and Yunnan, as well as the post station. Such a beautiful and exquisite classical garden has been preserved. Guizhou officials from all dynasties have left their footprints and calligraphy here. It is really worth a visit. It is not in the same direction as the Jiuzhou Ancient Town in Huangping County, but it is a long way from the north. The bus next to the bus station in Huangping County runs once an hour. It is really difficult for me to travel alone. There are similar national key cultural relics protection units around, and 5A attractions are better than nothing.

Gaoguohe Drifting

VIPs have a dedicated reception center with shuttle service and a special lane to the starting point (this convenience is only available when there are many people; otherwise, there's no need to queue). However, there's room for improvement in the service.

Gao Guo He Scenic Area

I have heard of Gaoguo River for a long time, but I have never seen its beauty. Hiking and sightseeing, the canyon scenery is very beautiful, the most unexpected is the 108-meter Guer Falls, very shocking! The whole journey is lush with vegetation and the river water is clear. I took two sightseeing buses along the way, and the total time was about 【Scenery】two and a half hours.

Suggestions for self-driving from Guiyang, white rafting and night rafting: 1. One-night stay: depart from Guiyang at around 1:00 am, arrive at the hotel in the Shanmu River Night Rafting Scenic Area at around 3:00 pm (Water Ink Cloud Mountain-Valley Hotel, it is very convenient to stay in this hotel with children for night rafting, the river is downstairs from the hotel, and the rafting starting point is also downstairs from the hotel, 5-star recommendation) take the children to the river to play in the water at 5:00 pm, start night rafting at 7:00 pm, you can get off the boat to play in the water at any time during the rafting process, the night rafting ends at around 10:00 pm, and you can take the sightseeing bus back to the hotel. After breakfast the next day, drive (about 7-8 kilometers) to the starting point of white rafting on the Shanmu River (it is best to go down the river at 11:00 pm, there are fewer people rafting early), the whole rafting time is 3-4 hours, and it ends at around 3:00 pm. White rafting and night rafting on the Shanmu River are especially suitable for children and the elderly. There is a section near the end of white rafting that is a bit too fast, which I personally think is acceptable.

Qinglong Cave

Surprisingly, the architecture is very distinctive, historical, and culturally rich, complementing the ancient town of Zhenyuan beautifully. My parents, nearing eighty, still managed to climb to the top and enjoy the panoramic views, completing the entire hike. Highly recommended!
