Xiajin Debai! A happy home for family getaways — traveler post in Xiajin

Xiajin Debai! A happy home for family getaways

The warm early winter sun shines over the Yellow River Ancient Road Forest Park. Beyond its charming natural scenery, it hides a hidden gem of a hotel perfect for family getaways—Xiajin Debai Hot Spring Resort. My family and I chose to spend a cozy and delightful weekend here, and I can't wait to share our happy memories! 🌟🌲 👶 A dreamy paradise in the family room 🌈 Stepping into the family-themed room felt like entering a world of childhood wonder. The room design features cartoon characters, with murals on the walls and decorations by the bedside that are full of whimsy. As soon as our little one walked in, he excitedly ran to his own little corner, filled with his favorite cartoon character pillows and toys. There were even toiletries specially designed for kids, making every bath time fun. At night, lying on the soft, plush bed and listening to the gentle sound of flowing water outside the window, even our dreams were sweet. 🌙 💦 Warm moments in the hot spring ♨️ The resort's hot springs are one of its biggest highlights, especially for families who love to soak. There are 56 outdoor hot spring pools, each with unique benefits and features. We chose a family hot spring cabin, allowing us to enjoy the fun of a private soak all night long. Just imagine: under the moonlight, the whole family sitting together in the warm spring water, chatting away—this kind of warmth is irreplaceable. 💖 🍽 A delicious feast of childhood memories 🍲 The resort's dining options were also full of surprises. The buffet restaurant offers a wide variety of delicacies, from traditional Lu cuisine to international dishes—it has everything. The breakfast, in particular, was not only rich in variety but also included many healthy whole grains, ensuring the whole family could eat healthily and happily. The dish my son can't stop thinking about is the sweet and sour pork ribs; they were perfectly balanced in flavor, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Just thinking about them makes my mouth water! 😋 🎬 An ocean of joy with family activities 🎉 Beyond the comfortable accommodations and delicious food, the resort also offers a wealth of entertainment activities to make the family holiday even more colorful. Whether it's classic cartoons playing in the indoor cinema or outdoor family games, everything helps strengthen the bond between family members. The nighttime bonfire party was especially memorable—singing and dancing around the fire. The joy and warmth of that moment still feel incredibly cozy whenever I think back on it. 🔥 We spent an unforgettable weekend at Xiajin Debai Hot Spring Resort. It not only helped us relax our bodies and minds but also deepened our family bonds. If you're looking for a place perfect for a family getaway, this is definitely worth considering! ✨

Stay in a forest vacation home in Dezhou and get healed by the 10,000-acre ancient mulberry forest — traveler post in Xiajin

Stay in a forest vacation home in Dezhou and get healed by the 10,000-acre ancient mulberry forest

Guys, you won't believe this! I discovered a thousand-year-old mulberry forest hidden along the old Yellow River course in Dezhou. The oldest trees are over 2,000 years old. The moment I walked in, I felt completely enveloped by green, like my lungs were getting a spa treatment. This post is full of firsthand tips, so I recommend saving it before you read on. 🏨 Where to stay This time, I stayed right at the entrance of the Xiajin Yellow River Ancient Road Forest Park in an independent wooden cabin. When I opened the door, I was greeted by a locust tree forest. The room was filled with solid wood furniture, and the bed was covered with coarse cloth sheets that smelled faintly of wood. The best part was the small terrace. Waking up in the morning, sitting there with a cup of hot water, listening to the wind and the rustling leaves, and watching the sunlight filter through the canopy—that feeling was more healing than any spa. The owner is a local and will tell you stories about the forest and point out the oldest mulberry tree. 🌳 Stop 1: Xiajin Yellow River Ancient Road Forest Park This is definitely the most underrated attraction in Dezhou, hands down! The entire park covers over 10,000 acres, with the core being a thousand-year-old mulberry forest. It is said that planting began during the Spring and Autumn period. The oldest "Mulberry King" tree is over 2,000 years old, and its trunk is so thick it takes three people to hug it. I went in September, so the mulberries were out of season, but the trees were lush with green leaves that blocked out the sky. Walking along the forest paths, the temperature was several degrees cooler than outside—a natural air-conditioned room. The park has dedicated cycling paths where you can rent a bike to explore slowly, or you can walk. I chose to walk because I wanted to stop and take photos at every step. Next to the ancient mulberry forest is a locust tree forest, which must be even more fragrant when the locust flowers bloom in May. 💡 Pro tip: Admission is CNY 40, and students get half off. The park is huge, so I recommend taking the sightseeing cart for CNY 20, or you will walk until your legs give out. It is best to arrive by 8:00 AM when it is less crowded and the lighting is good. 🏞️ Stop 2: Jianhe Wetland Park After returning to downtown Dezhou from Xiajin, I went to Jianhe Wetland Park in the afternoon. It is free! This park stretches along both banks of the Jianhe River for over ten kilometers and is a "city lung" type of wetland park. I focused on the middle section, which has large reed marshes and lotus ponds. Although the lotus flowers had faded by September, the seed pods were just right, and the lush green view was incredibly healing. There is an observation tower in the park; climbing it offers a panoramic view of the entire wetland—the view is incredible. Below the tower is a sandy area where many children play. I walked along the wooden boardwalk for about an hour and sat in a pavilion for a long time, just zoning out and watching the water. I had not had this kind of aimless relaxation in a long time. 💡 Pro tip: The park is free to enter. I recommend going after 4:00 PM to avoid the sun. There are quite a few mosquitoes, so be sure to bring insect repellent. Wear sneakers, as some parts of the wooden boardwalk can be slippery. 🏛️ Stop 3: Yongqing Temple The next morning, I went to Yongqing Temple, which is in the city center and free to enter. This temple was originally built in the Tang Dynasty. Although it was destroyed and rebuilt several times, the current structures, rebuilt in recent years, still retain their grandeur. The mountain gate is spectacular. Inside, you will find the Hall of Heavenly Kings and the Mahavira Hall as you walk along the central axis. What impressed me most was the ancient ginkgo tree in the temple, said to be several hundred years old. It must be incredibly beautiful when the leaves turn yellow in autumn. The temple was not crowded and was very quiet; you could hear the chanting. I stood in front of the Mahavira Hall for a while, watching the incense smoke rise, and felt a strange sense of calm. Even if you are not a believer, it is a great place to experience that solemn atmosphere. 💡 Pro tip: Free admission, and you can get three sticks of incense for free at the entrance. The temple serves vegetarian meals for CNY 10 per serving. I did not eat there, but it looked quite clean. 🌊 Stop 4: Xinhu Scenic Area The last stop was Xinhu Scenic Area, an urban waterfront park in the center of Dezhou. It is free. This is an artificial lake surrounded by city buildings, with a small island in the center connected by a bridge. I walked halfway around the lake and saw many locals walking, square dancing, and flying kites—it was full of local life. There is a Century Square by the lake, which has a musical fountain at night. My favorite part was the row of weeping willows on the west bank. The breeze blew the willow branches across the water, and with the Ferris wheel in the distance, the scene was incredibly gentle. Sitting on a bench by the lake watching the sunset and seeing the city lights turn on one by one—this feeling of being immersed in local life was more satisfying than checking off any tourist attraction. 🎒 Before you go · Transportation: Dezhou has a high-speed railway station. It takes an hour and a half from Beijing by high-speed train, which is super convenient. · Best season: May for locust flowers and mulberries, or September to October for pleasant weather and autumn scenery. · What to wear: Comfortable sneakers! You will do a lot of walking in the forest park. · Budget: You can manage a two-day, one-night trip for about CNY 300 per person, with total admission fees under CNY 100. · Photography: Wear white or light-colored clothing in the ancient mulberry forest for the best photos; the green background makes you look very fair. To be honest, before coming to Dezhou, I really did not expect such beautiful natural scenery here. The awe of the 10,000-acre ancient mulberry forest, the tranquility of the Jianhe Wetland, and the unhurried pace of this city all make me want to come back again. If you are tired of crowded tourist traps and want to find a place to truly relax, this green space in Dezhou is definitely worth a special trip.

Hidden gems of northern Shandong: four days and three nights — traveler post in Xiajin

Hidden gems of northern Shandong: four days and three nights

Oh wow! Dezhou is my personal treasure trove! This trip will let you experience the authentic dual charm of the ancient northern Shandong county and the nine-way heavenly thoroughfare—no crowds at the Dezhou braised chicken flagship store, no detours to the viral Sulu King tomb photo wall, no fleeting sightseeing routes. Instead, you’ll immerse yourself in the snowy crown of the old Yellow River channel, the icy eaves of the Sulu King tomb, the bronze glow of the Dezhou Museum, the ink pond of Cha River, and the silver chain of Jian River Ecological Park, weaving every inch into your breath over four days and three nights! On day one, take the high-speed train straight to Dezhou East Station (second-class seat 10 yuan), then a private car directly to the old Yellow River channel—30 minutes crossing the snowy Cha River plains! Stay at a century-old guesthouse near the entrance of the old Yellow River channel and the renovated Sulu King tomb (with floor heating and handwritten excerpts from the Dezhou annals on new stationery), 380 yuan per night. Open the wooden window to see the snowy crown of the old Yellow River channel glowing golden in the sunset! In the afternoon, enjoy a free visit to the Yellow River channel ecological forest—where the Yucheng Tuhai River ruins, Ling County Han tomb clusters, and Dezhou ancient city walls stand silently like poetry in the snow. On the way, visit the Sulu King tomb, where the snow-covered flying eaves are half a foot thick, like a silver veil draped over “China’s only foreign monarch’s tomb.” Day two starts early! Private car tour deep into the old Yellow River channel, Dezhou Museum, and Jian River Ecological Park (including morning mist guided tour, intangible cultural heritage Shandong drum duet experience, and Cha River snowy trail hike), all for 430 yuan! Tickets cost 75 yuan (including a combined ticket for the old Yellow River channel, Dezhou Museum, Jian River Ecological Park, and the Le Ling 10,000-mu jujube forest birdwatching boardwalk). You won’t believe that the “icy eaves and snow armor” of the Sulu King tomb in winter morning light look like the northern Shandong backbone built by imperial decree of Zhu Di! Last time I went, an old Shandong drum artist demonstrated the “Cha River twelve tunes”: the drumbeats shook off frost crystals that fell softly into the Cha River, even the bamboo slip facsimile of the Dezhou annals shimmered with golden light! For lunch, eat Dezhou braised chicken, Le Ling golden silk jujubes, and Ningjin cricket pot rice at the Jian River “Nine-way tavern,” about 68 yuan per person. The tomb guardian even gave me a hand-stamped vermilion “De” character note and handwritten excerpts from the Dezhou annals! Day three includes the Le Ling 10,000-mu jujube forest and Dezhou Museum (with private car, intangible cultural heritage Dezhou paper-cutting experience, and snowy trail cloud sea viewing at the back mountain of the old Yellow River channel). Tickets cost 102 yuan (including Le Ling jujube forest, Dezhou Museum, and old Yellow River channel night tour). Don’t worry about the cold—Dezhou has strong sunlight! In the morning, walk the “Jujube forest snowy trail” in Le Ling with ice cleats on packed earth, then climb the “old Yellow River channel back mountain pavilion icy eaves” to gaze at the mountain peaks. In the afternoon, listen to a paper-cutting artisan demonstrate the “Dezhou twelve cuts” at Dezhou Museum (in front of a snow-covered ancient stele, red paper flies like the “Tribute of Yu” map), about 85 yuan per person. Stay overnight at the boutique guesthouse at the foot of the old Yellow River channel with floor heating and a handwritten welcome letter titled “Dezhou night talk,” 385 yuan per night—open the window to see the snowy crown of the old Yellow River channel and fall asleep to the sound of the Cha River tide. On the last day, head straight to Dezhou Museum and the old Yellow River channel (including private car and intangible cultural heritage Dezhou black pottery handcraft experience). Tickets cost 35 yuan (including Dezhou Museum, old Yellow River channel, and Cha River ancient ferry birdwatching boardwalk). In the morning, at the Dezhou Museum “Nine-way workshop,” make your own “Yellow River cloud-patterned black pottery paperweight” (using clay from both sides of the Cha River, guided by an artisan to shape and carve the “De” character in seal script, with a blue printed cloth base and cloud tassels), about 98 yuan per person. For lunch, eat Dezhou braised chicken, Le Ling golden silk jujubes, and Ningjin cricket pot rice by the Cha River “Dezhou tavern,” about 72 yuan per person. On the way back, stop at Dezhou Wanxianghui to buy souvenirs: vacuum-packed Dezhou braised chicken, Le Ling golden silk jujube gift boxes, Ningjin cricket pot rice instant packs, and a canal cloud-patterned small scarf, 155 yuan total—a perfect triple memory of Dezhou! Transportation 20 + accommodation 1,150 (380 + 385 + 385) + tickets 212 + meals 383 (68 + 72 + 128 + 115) + experiences 430 (Shandong drum duet 105 + paper cutting 85 + black pottery 98 + snowy trail guide 142) + shopping 155 = 2,095 yuan, with 5 yuan left to buy a pack of “Yellow River fragrance” osmanthus sugar, brew a cup of old Yellow River channel cloud mist tea with Cha River snow water, and sit by the Sulu King tomb watching the thousand-year northern Shandong legacy drift by… Oh, and remember to bring a thermos—instant noodles by the icy steps of the old Yellow River channel are a must, but even better is to cook a bowl of “Yellow River cloud mist noodles” with Cha River snow water, crushed Le Ling golden silk jujubes, and Dezhou braised chicken broth. One hot bite warms your throat, relaxes your brow, and makes your fingertips sweat slightly, as if you’re witnessing Zhu Di’s imperial decree building the Sulu King tomb, Yu the Great controlling the Tuhai River, Dezhou braised chicken’s origin in the Qianlong era, Le Ling golden silk jujubes listed as a national geographical indication, Ningjin cricket pot rice becoming intangible cultural heritage, Dezhou black pottery’s successful re-firing, and the old Yellow River channel wetland selected as a national ecological demonstration zone… The millennium-long chant of “nine-way heavenly thoroughfare, gateway to the divine capital” flows with the snowlight over 630 years, never fading.

The freshly dug shoots are sold by weight, making them fresher and cheaper than those at the market. Working up a sweat while digging is incredibly stress-relieving. You can take a full bag of fresh bamboo shoots down the mountain and have them cooked directly at a local farmhouse restaurant—simply stir-fried, they are incredibly fresh and sweet. Both adults and children can fully enjoy the experience, having fun while reaping a bountiful harvest. You can even take a bag of freshly picked shoots home. It gives you a much greater sense of accomplishment than hitting the gym! Transportation & Dining Guide: We recommend staying at the Debai Hot Spring Resort. There's a ride-hailing service at the entrance, and attractions are accessible within a 15-20 minute drive. Both the town and the lake area have local farmhouse restaurants. By the lake, we highly recommend trying the stir-fried bamboo shoots and homegrown free-range chicken, which are very reasonably priced. If you want to take photos, remember to choose a sunny day for a lakeside stroll. The blue sky, white clouds, modern architecture, and riverside willow trees make every casual shot look cinematic. Practical Tips 1. For digging bamboo shoots, it is recommended to bring gloves and wear shoes with thick soles for easier maneuvering. 2. For breakfast, you can try jellied tofu (Doufunao) and Chinese crepes (Jianbing) at the food stalls in Debai Tourism Town. 3. The Bixia Palace Taoist Temple in Xiajin County is open all day, so you don't have to worry about scheduling. 4. Unwinding in the resort's hot spring area at night will definitely boost the happiness factor of your trip.

Debai Hot Spring Resort

It is really a pleasure to soak in the hot springs and relax yourself in Lai De Bai Hot Spring Resort. The only difference is that the bathroom is a bit messy and you have to bring some bathing items with you. The small restaurant there is quite unique, especially the fried mulberry leaf scrambled eggs, and the mulberry leaf vegetable cakes.

Xiajin Yellow River Forest Park

Xiajin Yellow River Wetland Park is a park in Xiajin County, China. It is known for its diverse flora and fauna, as well as numerous scenic hiking trails along the Yellow River. Wonderful trail tracks will never disappoint anyone. This park is suitable for both family travelers and individual highly energetic explorers. I recommend to plan entire day from earlier morning to cover this area. The best time for visiting is late spring during flower and high vegetation bloom period

East Wanyuan Garden

The park was beautiful, and several NPCs enlivened the atmosphere: intellectual games, dancing, and adorable tumbler dolls. That evening, we happened to witness a legal education performance by the procuratorate. The intangible cultural heritage of iron flower making was incredibly impressive and beautiful. However, the navigation route to the park in the afternoon took us through narrow country lanes, and on the return trip in the evening, we deliberately took a different route, only to find the streetlights were out and there was traffic congestion.

Wanyuan

Linqing boasts an abundance of delicious food, too numerous to mention. However, for a truly fun place to visit, Wanyuan Garden stands out. It feels like stepping into the Suzhou-Hangzhou area, with its lush willows, rugged rocks, pavilions, waterfalls, and shimmering blue waters. There are also many historical exhibits and artifact collections worth seeing. Tickets are reasonably priced, offering excellent value.

Mount Taishan

Climbing Mount Tai, we were accompanied by clouds and mist, admired cliff carvings, and watched the sunlight peek through the clouds... We took a scenic shuttle bus from Tianwaicun to Zhongtianmen, climbed the steps to enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way, reached Yuhuangding, descended to Nantianmen, took a cable car back to Zhongtianmen, and chose to exit the scenic area through Hongmen, avoiding backtracking. Our visit lasted nearly 7 hours. Mount Tai truly deserves its title as the foremost of the Five Sacred Mountains.

Millennium City Park

Stepping into the painting is like stepping back a thousand years in a single day! The Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden, a Song Dynasty cultural park recreated based on the famous painting "Along the River During the Qingming Festival," offers an immersive experience. The park boasts a rich variety of performances, with "Yue Fei Spears Xiao Liang Wang" being a highly recommended highlight—the equestrian combat is spectacular. The "Great Song Dynasty: A Dream of Bianjing" live-action performance is breathtaking and beautiful. Actors in Song Dynasty costumes are everywhere on the streets, carrying loads, hawking goods, and performing acrobatics, making you feel like you've stepped into a living ancient painting. The streets, alleys, Rainbow Bridge, and Bian River are all faithfully recreated, making it perfect for introducing children to the history of Northern Song Dynasty life. The only downside is the crowds during holidays; arrive early to secure a spot at popular performances. A visit to the garden can easily take up half a day—a must-do when in Kaifeng!

Baotu Spring

Baotu Spring is definitely worth a visit. The park is beautiful, and aside from being very crowded, it has no other drawbacks. The three springs are quite large, though the spray isn't very high. Each pool is different, and it's quite interesting to observe closely. Some pools constantly emit small bubbles, and many pools are teeming with koi. However, due to the large number of people feeding them, the fish have become very picky eaters.

Song Du Huangcheng Cultural Tourism Resort

It's very worthwhile, but it's also very crowded, which might slightly detract from the overall experience. However, the people are incredibly welcoming, and there are many beautiful spots for taking photos. The food is also affordable and inexpensive, which kids enjoy. I'll definitely go back when it's less crowded.

Wansuishan Martial Arts City

It's a really fun place. It's huge inside with lots of delicious food stalls, like bringing the eateries from several neighborhoods into the park. The dining options are even more concentrated than in the city center. It truly combines eating, playing, and sightseeing all in one place. No wonder it's a 3-day pass; you could easily spend 3 days straight without getting bored.

Unique Henan Land of Dramas

The photos are just fragmented sharing, and it's hard for me to express exactly how good or worthwhile it is. But if you come to Zhengzhou, you should visit Henan at least once, even if you only have half a day. You should go in and at least see one of the main theaters (I recommend the train station or Lijiacun, I personally prefer Lijiacun). Some things cannot be expressed in words; you need to see, experience, and feel their authenticity for yourself...
