Heian shrine(平安神宮) is the best place to admire and celebrate blooming cherry blossoms! awesome!
Great collection of temple gates and buildings located around a huge courtyard.
Completely different from any other shrine / temple in Kyoto. The bright vermillion set against white gravel makes the Heian Shrine a burst of color vs. most of the other sights.
It's a beautiful shrine with a really large courtyard that's located in Kyoto. It's huge front Toori gate is hard to miss when in the area. One of the times I visited was during the 3-5-7 celebration where parents celebrate and pray with their children turning one of those three ages, so the shrine was full of families with small kimono clad children and it was so adorable!
Built in 1895, in memory of the Heian transfer of the capital in 1100, the shrine enshrines the first and last emperor in Kyoto. The shrines include the otorii, Jingu do, Otenmon, Daigokuden and Jinyuan, and the obvious Tang Dynasty Chinese architectural style. ·Shenyuan is a beautiful garden. In the middle of April, the famous “Yae Red Branch Salute” in the garden is in full bloom, which is the most beautiful time for visiting. · On October 22, one of the three Kyoto festivals is held here, which is an important part of Kyoto sightseeing.
