In Yangzhou, there is also a saying that "Eight Eccentrics in Yangzhou" refers to the "Eight Ugly Eccentrics" in Yangzhou. Because Yangzhou Bawei's artistic style was not recognized by the so-called orthodox painting school at that time, and what they pursued was nature, that is, truth and reality, they moved some life-oriented and civilian-oriented works into their paintings and calligraphy, and even exposed the dark side of society. This kind of behavior damaged the interests of the rulers, saying that they were all unfashionable "Ugly Eight Stranges" in the painting circle, which gave Yangzhou Eight Stranges its name. Literary and artistic theorists finally classified "Eight Eccentrics in Yangzhou" into eight people. There is a local Memorial Hall in Yangzhou, where their statues stand.
