It's hard to believe that this year is nearly coming to a close - but for many of us, as the first year for some time that we can freely travel, it's been a good one. And 2024 is sure to be even better.
But first things first - after the festive period is New Year's Eve, and we need to celebrate that in style. And wherever you are in Europe, there's always something to look forward to when it comes to hearing the bells chime.
Be sure to book your hotels and flights with the Trip.com app before deciding which of the best new year destinations for 2023 you'd like to pick…

The Dutch capital is always a top pick for a party - boasting numerous bars, clubs and restaurants nestled alongside the iconic canals, Amsterdam is sure to be a wonderful place to ring.
You can expect plenty of celebrations around the central Dam Square and fireworks on the famous Museumplein, and if you book in advance you can book a light festival cruise before the bells ring, too. Top tip: follow the Dutch tradition of buying a delicious oliebol, a delicious sweet pastry that the locals typically buy for New Year's Eve.

The coolest city in Europe? Berlin has such a reputation, but it also means that, without a doubt, it's cool as heck. Brandenburg Gate and Checkpoint Charlie are, of course, must-see tourist hotspots, but the evening is sure to be spent at one of Berlin's famous clubs.
Want something more lowkey? The Berlin Philharmonic hosts a famous concert on New Year's Eve for those lucky enough to get tickets.

The Grand Palace of Brussels (Jonathan Ricci / Unsplash)
Brussels is home to a huge array of incredible gastronomic hotspots, meaning that if a meal is in order to celebrate New Year's Eve, the Belgian city should be high on your list of considerations.
But parties are a staple of a Brussels NYE too - plenty of clubs and bars will cater to your fun side if you're so inclined. Whether it's an evening sipping a cocktail listening to jazz, or a full-blown night of dancing, this city is a great place to see out.

Hogmanay is a big deal in Edinburgh (Alana Harris / Unsplash)
A city so geared towards New Year's Eve, they even have their own word for it. Hogmanay is what it's referred to in the ever-brilliant Scottish capital, and rather than just a December 31st celebration, there are three full days of excitement here. Apparently, the reason Hogmanay is such a big deal here is due to Christmas not being a public holiday until 1958…
Fireworks and street parties will be in abundance in Edinburgh to see out, so even if you don't have concrete plans - and with live music, bars and pubs, and restaurants galore, you really should - you'll have a great start to life here.

Horse and carriage is a typical sight in Krakow (Ian Stauffer / Unsplash)
Those of you who've been to Krakow will attest to what an incredible city it is. Steeped in history, the architecture and atmosphere makes Poland's second city one that you should really visit at least once. If you can make that New Year's Eve, even better.
We can heartily recommend strolling through the markets and munching on a pierogi or sipping a mulled wine, but of course, with Trip.com being the connoisseurs of tours and tickets, we can recommend a New Year's Eve Crawl for the adults. The crawl includes three different nightclubs, a 2-hour open bar, free welcome shots, professional party guides, a photographer and VIP Club entry. And you can book it here.

The festive Parque Eduardo VII - you'll be able to see the fireworks from here (Letícia Pelissari / Unsplash)
The Portuguese capital is another city that really knows how to celebrate the year's end. With three full days of events, including road races and concerts, it'll be a party like no other for those lucky enough to spend New Year's Eve in Lisbon.
For December 31st itself, head to Praça do Comércio (Terreiro Do Paço) or Belém to enjoy the live music and fireworks. Trip.com offers a Boat with Champagne and Fireworks experience that takes in both, so be sure to book!
Alternatively, take a 45-minute train or car and head to Cascais by the sea, and enjoy a more intimate fireworks display and party to see.

The London Eye, the fireworks, the hustle and bustle - London is truly a way to make sure New Year's Eve gets done right. There are just so many things to see and do here that whatever your NYE vibe is, you'll be able to find it. Whether it's a full-blown all-nighter or a family event with the kids, you can be sure it'll be a great time.
But we at Trip.com have our own offer for you - New Year's Dinner and Thames Cruise with Fireworks on Board the Sarpedon Ticket. Book now to avoid disappointment!

Puerta del Sol will be home to a New Year's party (Alvaro Araoz / Unsplash)
Barcelona may be Spain's premier tourist destination, but the capital has its own take on New Year's Eve that should be experienced by everyone at least once. Head to Madrid for December 31st and take the metro to Puerta del Sol, where people from across the globe meet up and eat grapes - yes, grapes - together as the bell rings 12. This tradition is steeped in history and supposedly brings good luck…
Once you've sipped on beer and nibbled on a dozen grapes, get ready to head to one of the dozens of hugely fun bars and clubs and dance - a pro tip would be to book your ticket in advance! Either way, a good time will surely be had by all in Madrid.

Surely one of the most iconic European New Year's Eve sights is a Parisian landmark engulfed in a spectacular fireworks display? Even if you've never experienced it, surely that image is emblazoned in your mind. And you can experience it first-hand if you want to see out the new year in wonderful, amazing Paris.
If you really want to enter the new year in style, book tickets to Paradis Latin Paris Cabaret New Year's Eve Gala Dinner & Show with Trip.com. Go on - treat yourself…

No trip to Rome would be complete without visiting the Colosseum (David Kohler / Unsplash)
Another stunning European capital with a whole heap of fireworks and street parties to enjoy. What better way to celebrate the end of the year than by visiting Rome? Get yourself some traditional food - lentils with cotechino, a kind of coarse cooked sausage, which apparently brings financial success. Then, head to Pincio and Gianicolo and immerse yourself in the fireworks display.
Of course, the Italian capital is famous for its operatic concerts - and New Year's Eve in Rome is no exception. Book your ticket to New Year's Eve Concerts in Rome: The Three Tenors, and enjoy a cultured entry to 2024.
