Hotel is modern. Refurbished. Beautiful setting. Lots of grounds. Gardens so pretty. Herbs and fruit trees. Lots of seating areas dotted around and the pool is spectacular. Wow factor. We spent most of our time by the sea on the rocky terraces. Gorgeous. Order drinks through the app and staff find you wherever you are sat. Staff throughout very well trained polite and efficient. Good service. That’s really why I wanted to write this review as they deserve praise. Our room was infinity blue 5th floor and we had a stunning view of the sea and the sun rising every morning. Room good as refurbished. See other peoples comments below. Minor gripes. High tech to control lights aircon etc but still a paper tag to ask not to be disturbed which just falls off. Did the free yoga classes morning and some evenings. More stretching and breathing really but appreciated they were available. Breakfast excellent. I wanted to give hotel 5 stars but some negatives. Hotel is quite far from anything. Walk to a small supermarket and cafe 1/2 mile. Not much else that close. Favourite restaurant almost first one you come to kri kri 15/20 mins. Walk to centre Agios Nicholas 30 mins. Yes taxi cheap €8 but be aware when picking hotel. The quid pro quo is that the setting is special. A shuttle bus would be a great addition. The problem for us was that the food and drink in the hotel was very expensive and not that good. I hope the food and drinks manager reads this review and gets their act together. We favoured the restaurant by the beach and had some pleasant meals even though we knew we were being ripped off. It is a 5*hotel and service setting etc was lovely. But first day lunch by the pool pretty terrible and equally expensive. Ditto the sandwich ordered by the beach bar. €16 for a sandwich on its own on a plate. €10 glass of wine. Head to a local restaurant and dine out beautifully with the locals for a fraction of the cost. We may return to the hotel but that was our biggest disappointment.

Haven on earth! For those who know old Blue Palace, the new Phea Blue Palace keeps the same distinct quality and exceptional location but with a more intimate vibe. The design is superb. We did not realise before that that side of the old hotel was so green and lush, the garden is an oasis of calm and the service remains the distinctive quality of this place, the entire personnel is extraordinary. We just missed the very big swimming pool by the beach and the other beach-side bar and restaurant but we understand this is temporary the time the other side of the hotel will be redone and reopen. Already looking forward to the next year’s trip to this Crete oasis.

Firstly I’d like to say a massive thank you to the hotel manager Nikolaos Thanellas, this is a truly amazing gentleman who has this very beautiful establishment running like a very fine Rolex, the staff here are fabulous, always smiling and very happy in the jobs they do, this makes the service to quests a lot more spectacular, Well done Nikolaos 👌 Maria Drakaki, Guest relations manager had given me and my partner a wonderful tour of the facilities and the various rooms the hotel has to offer prior to our next years booking, we both would like to thank you for your time and your hospitality, you did an amazing job just watch your knee on the cart handbrake in future 😁 George and Angela at the beach bar are absolutely fantastic even at this time me and my partner were not quests at the hotel they made us feel very welcome and we really do appreciate that. So thank you to both of you. As for the gentleman and his lady assist who’s names I’ve unfortunately forgotten, they run the beach restaurant and are also very amazing people, the quality of the food, the service, that combined with the friendliness of the staff makes the experience exceptional. However i do think that he may well be a comedian as he always made us laugh every time we visited him and nothing was too much trouble to fulfil our needs, that said this was only 5 days of 7 we stayed in Crete. 100%,,,,,! if your looking that perfect couple retreat that’s adult only you’ll be hard pushed to find a hotel in Greece or any other island that could compare to the standards that Royal Marmin Bay has to offer. We were looking for several things when we booked the Elounda Bay Palace, aside from the obvious in a 5 star hotel. (1). Good swimming - I'd give it 11 out of 10 for this. A large indoor pool, a large outdoor pool, and the best safe sea swimming ever in a sheltered sandy bay - we loved that. (2). Location - places to walk to (safely) from the hotel, no need to get a taxi or drive. 8 out of 10 for this. There are several excellent walks to explore the local area - along the pavement to Elounda village & harbour along the sea shore (turn right down the path where there's a big sign saying 'Nina's Organic House, don't continue down the main road). Also out via the causeway to the island, where there's a more challenging circular walk around a good part of the island ( some of this is on donkey tracks that donkeys would have found challenging - good footwear needed). (3) Location - a good range of local restaurants available within walking distance, plus supermarkets to buy snacks and a bottle of wine without having to pay hotel prices. 9 out of 10 for this. The Elounda area has lots of fairly well-off and well-behaved tourists (it's definitely not a cheap, noisy holiday destination) , and these tourists have generated a large number of restaurants in Elounda to choose from - at reasonable prices. (4) Also, it's really nice to have a hotel set in attractive grounds - I really love all the ancient olive trees and well-kept gardens. Yes, drinks at the hotel are expensive, and the buffet evening meal provided by half board isn't at the level of a Michelin star - but there were a very wide range of food options and we were rarely disappointed. Good food options for kids, vegetarians. The staff were friendly and helpful (our room cleaner was exceptional!), and our room was modern and well kitted out. The abandoned fortress/settlement on Spinalonga island - you can get a ferry from Elounda - is well worth a visit. We had an excellent time over a week's stay, and felt we had chosen our hotel well.
