Parnell Pines Hotel

Parnell|0.08km from Parnell Road
We always do a bit of research before we book a place but we clearly didn’t do enough when we booked to stay at the Parnell pines. The staff at check in were friendly but seemed to have lost our reservation and when it was found there was no mention of the parking I had booked (which I have emails discussing). The reception, hallways and stairs areas were all extremely run down and gave off a hostel vibe. The room was a studio room down stairs from reception. The room was small and very basic. The door to our room had a piece of cardboard holding the lock into the wall which didn’t do the job as our door didn’t even close all the way. There is a chain lock for while you are in the room but we were really worried about going out as we didn’t want to leave our luggage in an unlocked room. There is no aircon only a fan in the cupboard to blow hot air around. The walls are paper thin so you can hear the other guests as well. We returned after an evening out at about 11pm and found the front door to the accommodation open (was suppose to be on a key card access only). Walking downstairs to our room a random person was walking up and down the hallway with a Jim beam mixer and asking if we wanted to party?! No! We went to bed and just couldn’t sleep. We felt extremely unsafe. We decided to leave quite early and waited for reception to open at 8am, by 8.15 still no one there so we just left. The cafe that was suppose to be attached looked long closed, so no option to sort breakfast. Theonly good thing about the accommodation was the location right in Parnell. Other than that we were extremely disappointed, frankly and won’t be returning.

Empire Apartments

Equivalent to the University of Auckland student dormitory, because the school itself is in the city center, there is no traditional campus, nearby apartments are used as student dormitories or rented to foreign workers. In the dead end, there is a steep road, and a nearby Okay Takeway is more cost-effective. It is about 15 minutes walk to Queen Street, which is a cost-effective choice. Don't stay as a hotel, just as short-term rent, there is no service at all, be careful when choosing a room type, do not choose to share a unit with others. If I come to Auckland again, I think I will still choose.
City Garden Lodge

Location is in the city of Parnell, more than half an hour's walk from the CBD. This is the palace of the Queen of Tonga. It is a relatively simple holiday home, 3 floors, wooden structure, high lift, kitchen to cook by yourself, shared bathroom - good hot water, washing machine, garden. There is a supermarket nearby. If you want to cook for yourself, you can go back and buy ingredients. There is also a very lively street nearby, with some cafes, restaurants and small shops. Less than five minutes walk, you can go to the Holy Trinity Church and St. Mary's Church. Overall is good. The service is basically invisible, the store is small, and no service personnel can be seen. Upon arrival, the room was ready and clean. Other self-help is just fine. There is a small heating in the house, very intimate.
Braemar on Parliament St

This is a European-style classical-style homestay. The housekeeper is a native of Auckland and a humorous and wise elder. Here you can feel friendly, warm and comfortable, and immersive feeling of New Zealanders' lives ~ Environment: It is enough to see the details. A European-style old house, the living room and dining room rooms are full of sense of time, living here is like a princess room in a fairy tale. The homestay is located on a quiet road in the Auckland CBD area, and there is a small park from the University of Auckland, which is both quiet and convenient. Facilities: The room has a certain sense of age, the facilities are slightly old, some rooms have separate bathrooms but only screen partitions, and some rooms have public bathrooms. This is a rare shortcoming in the house, but considering the age and decoration style of the room, it is understandable. Hygienic: Although the facilities are old, the room is very clean. The owner cleans it very carefully and there will be no unsatisfactory places. Service: The service is completely beyond expectations, and the owner likes to chat with the guests with humor. Breakfast is a typical English breakfast, with salads, toast and a variety of jams, as well as fried eggs and bacon, customized according to the needs of the guests, and can feel the owner's full intentions. The world map next to the restaurant is full of guest footprints, which is enough to illustrate the friendliness, tolerance and comfort here. If you want to experience the leisurely life of locals in New Zealand, it is highly recommended, but if you want more modern and standardized accommodation, you may have to consider it again.~

We were pretty pleased with our choice of this hotel. We were going to Hamilton and it was really easy to just walk across the park. The hotel itself was fine. We had a one bedroom apartment and it was roomy enough. The bed was comfy. The shower was OK - I like shower heads that are adjustable and this wasn't. The facilities were all fine. The staff were great and I have to mention Ola Siale who went above and beyond to get my IPad back to me. I left it in the bedroom by mistake - I phoned as soon as I realised and I could see that it was there. She organised to have it posted back to me and it arrived safely - really appreciated that extra effort - thanks Ola!

Quest Parnell

We visit NZ often and when in Auckland always stay at Quest Parnell. Staff are most helpful and friendly. If you arrive out of hours there are detailed instuctions at the door to gain access. If arriving before your room is ready, staff will keep your luggage safe. After hours checkout is also easy. If you do have a car, you can book a secure parking bay for about $27 per night. A car is not necessary though as it's an easy 10-15 min walk into the city centre or a 2 minute walk to a nearby bus stop where there is a bus about every 10 minutes. There are plenty of good food outlets on Parnell Rd and a large Countdown supermarket near the harbour. If feeling enegetic you can walk back to Quest from there but it is uphill part of the way so it's good to use the green or orange buses which run every few minutes. We generally have a 1 bedroom apartment which is a good size and well set out and has a washing machine in the bathroom. The kitchen has a cook top and microwave, dishwasher and full sized fridge whch is very handy if self-catering and staying for a few days. The apartments are very clean and well-maintained and are serviced each day except Sunday. Highly reccommended
