I came to Beijing for the weekend to visit a friend. While doing my research, I found that if you want to stay in the Chaoyang District, most of the hotels are older establishments. The Kempinski seemed like a good choice, being close to the embassy and hosting many international guests, so I figured the quality would be good.

I booked an Executive River View Twin Room. The main advantage was the fantastic view from the window, overlooking the Liangma River. I purchased a pre-sale 3-day, 2-night package, which was cheaper than booking two separate nights. It included executive lounge access, a Peking duck dinner, and a minibar.

Service: The service was very professional. The staff were clearly divided into roles, very enthusiastic, and quick to resolve any issues. On our first day, we didn't use the afternoon tea, so we asked if we could use it after checking out the next day. The front desk confirmed over the phone and agreed. They also granted us a late checkout until 2 PM.

Room: It was smaller than I expected, and both single beds were only 1.1m wide. The highlights were the small bathtub in the bathroom and a desk in the main room. The overall decor was rather business-like; I'd say it was just okay, nothing special.

Breakfast & Afternoon Tea: Breakfast was good with a wide variety of options. The muffins, scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, and hot rice noodles all get high marks. The coffee was average, which was a bit disappointing as I had high hopes. The Eggs Benedict was a letdown; I'm not a fan of the English muffin pairing. The afternoon tea was very, very, very mediocre. There were only about four or five kinds of pastries, very little fruit, and drinks like canned soda and sparkling water.

Pros:
▪️The Liangma River is right downstairs, making it convenient for a morning stroll and some sun. The location is excellent, close to Solana, Sanlitun, and Chaoyang Park. Taxis to these places usually take around 20 minutes.
▪️The Peking duck included in the package was delicious. The description said it was a single serving, but we two couldn't even finish it.

Personal cons:
▪️Soundproofing: There was a thin, locked wooden door between our room and the next, which resulted in very poor sound insulation. My friend and I were just talking at a normal volume in our room, and we woke up the neighbors who were trying to sleep. We felt terrible.
▪️Corridor Ceiling Height: I've never paid much attention to this in hotels before, but it was very noticeable here. The ceiling felt like it was only about 2 meters high, making me feel a bit dizzy walking through the hallway.

We chose Sunrise Oriental for my child's birthday. The front desk service was superb! When they found out it was a birthday, they secretly arranged a Monchhichi-themed kids' room for us, which was a lovely surprise. The bathroom was huge, and the room itself was spacious and comfortable. Monchhichi decorations were everywhere, on the walls and mirrors – we were really pleased. The shower water was absolutely fantastic, and the bathtub was larger than in most hotels. We tried out everything: the swimming pool, hot spring, gym, and breakfast buffet. But the absolute best part was the service. All the staff members were so warm and attentive. We'll definitely be back! Highly, highly, highly recommend!

This was my second visit to Yanqi Lake, and I came to Yanqi Island specifically for its lush greenery. The hotel's concept is excellent, with 80% of the island covered in vegetation, making for truly picturesque scenery. The hotel facilities are also good; even the washbasins are Villeroy & Boch. The food at Guanlan Xuan was delicious, even a simple bowl of tomato noodle soup was fantastic.

However, the hotel's cleanliness was just average, and the room wasn't very clean. The worst part was the hotel's service level. At the breakfast noodle station, there was no queuing system, and noodles I ordered were taken by someone else, leading to complete disorder. During meals, cleaning staff constantly approached us, asking if they could clear our plates. And then there's the concierge. They wanted to charge 100 RMB per person for an electric cart tour around the island, and initially even told me my child would be charged! Thankfully, someone who seemed like a supervisor nearby intervened and said young children wouldn't be charged. When we went to visit the APEC conference center and Yanqi Pagoda, the security guard downstairs at Yanqi Pagoda, Xiaolong Yo, provided terrible service. The elevator in the pagoda couldn't accommodate so many people, and coincidentally, my child was a bit fussy, so we played downstairs for a while. When we tried to take the elevator again, they told us we weren't allowed up! They even blamed the concierge guide! For a hotel that caters to government receptions, if this is their service standard, it definitely needs improvement. They should hire a manager from a big chain like Marriott to thoroughly streamline their processes.

I had a wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable weekend here. The Ambassador Hotel truly upholds international top-tier service standards, from its hardware facilities to its soft services, everything was incredibly comfortable, attentive, and thoughtful. Every detail of the hotel was spot on.

It was a fantastic experience. While waiting to leave, I took the time to ask for the names of a few staff members who left a lasting impression on me, and I wanted to express my gratitude for their considerate and thoughtful service: Zhao Yufei, the short-haired girl at the front desk; Zhao Mengran, the shy, round-faced young man; Tian You from the concierge team who provided professional explanations; and 'Stone' the photographer, who was great at posing, took amazing pictures, and was very gentle. The restaurant staff, and even the doorman by the lake who proactively opened doors for every guest, were all exceptional.

There were also many other staff members whose names I couldn't remember, but I want to thank everyone. I believe that such consistently excellent service is definitely a result of the hotel's professional training and management. Their unified excellent service philosophy and attitude are truly commendable.

Highly recommended! It's a great place to come during the week to relax and unwind! 🤩🤣 (All the names mentioned above are ones I specifically asked for! 🤣👍)

There was a small hiccup during our stay, but I'm incredibly grateful to Carol and Steven from Trip for their help in smoothly checking us into a suitable room.

The overall location is excellent, right next to Dubai Mall via a connecting bridge. The room was quite new and clean, and I felt it was better than the other Kempinski across the road.

Car rental was convenient; Thrifty was visible right after crossing the connecting bridge.

The location is absolutely fantastic. You can access Dubai Mall directly from the hotel. It's super close to both the Burj Khalifa and the Underwater Zoo. The breakfast meets the standard of an international five-star hotel. Just a heads up, the taxi stand is a bit different from what you might be used to in some countries. Free parking is a huge plus; you can just park right at the entrance and pick up your car when you leave. It's incredibly convenient for those on a road trip. If I get the chance, I'd definitely stay here again.

We stayed for one night as a group of four and enjoyed close rooms on request the staff was helpful and when we told them we were celebrating my sisters graduation they didn’t hesitate to bring us a complimentary cake. The rooms are clean and the location is perfect it took us 6 minutes from our room to the mall.

Loved every bit, breakfast was awesome. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Anastasia was our host for the first day and her smile made us start our everyday there very beautifully. She was exceptionally lovely. 

The room was spacious and lovely. The service was excellent, and the location was very convenient – within walking distance of a commercial area, and there's also a local neighborhood nearby with great food options. I really appreciated the thoughtful little touches and all the amenities, like the washing machine, which was super handy. The hotel also boasts beautiful views; I enjoyed many stunning sunsets during my stay.

The room were spacious though we don’t think the lounge was worth it as it lacked dining options. Morning breakfast at the lobby can be quite crowded and chaotic. The restaurant manager were cold and indifferent though most servers were friendly. The fried eggs and omelette were a big disappointments as they tasted soggy and bad.  Quality of the food is average. 


While most of the front line staff are friendly, the golf cart driver left us alone several times outside of the hotel, leaving us in the dark. The room were refurbished but some minor issues include uneven wooden floors which you can see the floors in the room are quite dated and rotten. The bathroom facilities were a major disappointment as the shower head and shower tap fall down twice, which could pose eminent  safety hazards to guests. Beddings are okay but the delivery of services are quite slow.
