Holiday Inn Charleston-Riverview

Charleston|2.22km from Coburg Cow
Disappointing Stay and service - Flooded room!! I needed a place to stay while I was in town tending to my father and his appointments. I decided to choose the Holiday Inn Riverview. I stayed at this location for 6 nights. 5 out of the 6 nights were fine. On the last day of my stay (Sept. 30th) hurricane Ian hit Charleston. As I was on the 10th floor (room 1004) I thought I would be safe and not have any issues with my room. I was wrong. Water came in from the bottom of the window and moved quickly past the bed. I tried to fix it with towels and also contacted the hotel cleaning personnel. They provided me with a Swiffer mop to wipe up the floor, which which did not do anything to fix the issue. I tried to be patient but the water got a little out of control moving past my bed. I then called the hotel front desk and asked for another room. The person told me all the rooms had issues with water getting in them and there was nothing they could do. She also said they was getting water inside the lobby area. She literally said I don't know what to tell you and to do what you have to do. As a paying customer, even during crisis, there should still be decorum and care for patrons. So I took off the quilt from the bed and used that to stop the flow of water coming from the window. I understand that this was a hurricane, however the hotel should have better window infrastructure to keep their patrons comfortable and secure. I was very alarmed by this incident. I was on the 10th floor, not the 1st level. No words of apology or any compensation for a terrible day. Nothing. I value my membership at IHG and was so excited to stay at this location, but I will not go to this hotel any longer. I should not be charged for this night at all as the service was way lower than standard. I am very disappointed. I normally do not write bad reviews but I had to had to write and make a complaint.

The representatives were all very friendly and informative. The room was very comfortable and very clean. The pool was very nice but a bit cool due to it’s always in shade between the Hotel and the neighboring building. Complimentary breakfast was a variety. From dry cerial, to hot oatmeal or grits, to waffles to eggs and fried potatoes with peppers. Very Nice. Only one suggestion would be to add a couple of towel holder hooks or racks so to be able to reuse.

The room was clean and in good shape. My problem was we were not able to close the black out curtains and a bright street light shone in. The room had no view except for the air conditioning units. This disturbed our sleep all night. The food was good but a bit pricey. The service was good and the staff that we met were friendly. Over all I probably would stay here again, but ask for a better room.

I reserved a room for 3 nights in June online. I was on a road trip and decided to stay in Charleston a few days before heading to my next location. I only take vacations once every 5 years more or less and this was my first trip in years. I presumed that when I paid with my credit card online that I was good to go. I had stayed at another hotel in the area the night before but they doubled their rates for the weekend, and it was more than I wanted to pay. So, though this hotel was farther out from the city, it was close enough. I presumed with a reservation there would be no issues checking in whenever, so went to the USS Yorktown for the afternoon. I had been listening to something on my phone and by late afternoon, my battery was very low. Around 4 PM, while in the bottom section of the boat, my phone rang. by the time I pulled it out, call went to voice mail. i had to go out on deck to get the voice mail, which was the hotel calling. The message was confusing and said i had till 5 pm before my reservation would be cancelled. I left the air craft carried to go to my car and charge my phone to call the hotel back and figure out the issue. They said there was a problem with my card. I had used it to get into Yorktown, and had paid for several hotels the week before. Still had $9K available credit and my bill was paid as it had been every month for 19 years (I checked the card website before calling them to see if there was something with my account). So, it couldn't be the card, had to be on their end, but they were going to cancel my reservation. again, I assumed when i paid at my reservation that all was good. Why wouldn't i? I called and they said they would hold it till i got there if I was on my way. So i had to skip out on the rest of the yorktown and go deal with this issue. I got there, told the clerk who i was. Pulled out my ID, AAA card and credit card. The girl said she only needed my ID, so I thought they must have re-run the card and it was all fine. Glad that was resolved, clerk gave me my paperwork, key card and i was on my way. I went to the room, and decided rather than use daylight to unpack, i still had a couple of hours of daylight and headed to the beach. This was around 5 PM as they demanded on the VM. around 7 PM. my phone rang on the beach. I answered, and it was someone saying she was from the hotel. She said my card did not work and I needed to resolve this issue. I was walking the beach so some distance from my car, but told her I would head back. as I walked towards my car, the lady called again and this time was more rude than the time before. She said she had to have a credit card right then. I'm thinking that I've just been there. I'm not even confident that this is someone from the hotel. But i was leaving the beach to head back, again changing my plans. I told the lady that I had been there a couple of hours ago, had my card out and the clerk did not need it. I presumed al

I am so grateful I changed my reservation to stay at Best Western Charleston Inn from the hotel I originally booked. From start to finish everything was great with our stay. Nicole at the front desk was super sweet and made check in super easy. The bed was so comfy I really did not want to get out of bed! We booked a pool view room which brought tons of light into the room. One of my favorite parts of the room was an actual table and chairs to sit and eat at. I also liked having two sinks in the room so more than one person could get ready while the other took a shower. There were zero issues with cleanliness other than a faint smell of old cigarette smoke when we first walked into the room. I never noticed it after the first time I walked in. Getting to major attractions in Charleston as well as nearby beaches were quick drives. It was so convenient to park right outside of our room too. I am usually skeptical of hotel pictures but I was surprised at how big the pool area was! When we return to Charleston in the future we will no doubt return to this property!

We really enjoyed our stay here. I loved the separate tub & shower. It was nice to having the tub to get my kids cleaned up and then the shower for us. Our room was really spacious and very clean. The hotel was quiet which was great. Everything was really clean, the toiletries smells great too so that’s always a plus. The only minor issues were that the fridge wasn’t very cold in the room, I had breastmilk I needed to store and ended up using a cooler with ice instead because the fridge wasn’t cold enough for it. If you’re just chilling waters or a few drinks, it’ll be fine though. The other minor thing was the TV would make a weird noise that sounded similar to an alarm on occasion. We would shut the tv off and then it would stop so not sure what that was about but it was great other than those minor issues.
