Nice Stay

Hotel with impeccable facilities, friendly staff and relaxing environment, we will return to this hotel

Comfortable hotel, large room and bathroom. Very comfortable bed, large TV with international channels, fridge inside the room. Ideal terrace overlooking the pool.

Hotel in general with good service but with the following points to improve: broken elevator, buffet breakfast a bit expensive €9.50/pax, lack of double sockets in the rooms next to the bed for smartphone chargers, rooms need to be upgraded to the current requirements and a few small comfortable sofas are lacking in the rooms.

Very nice location for a relaxing break. Hotel was very clean, staff were great especially Andre (hope that’s correct) Russian waiter so polite and helpful. Swimming pool was nice and sun beds were comfortable. Nice restaurant about 2 mins walk outside hotel and the lake was only a 10 min walk through the forest. Had a lovely time only negative was we didn’t like the pillows in the room.

This is a very good hotel, ideal for a weekend break and especially if you want to be near to the beautiful Guardiana river. We travelled up the Portuguese side and visited Mertola which was, to be honest, a bit underwhelming but as the road gave way to the Alentejo countryside, appreciation was lifted. The hotel was easy to locate, impressive even in the mist and gentle rain and we felt instantly that it wa a good choice. The reception was warm and friendly and our room was substantial with all facilities, very clean and well prepared and had a lovely view over the swimming pool. The observatory was under modification; the games room in the Library was good to have even though it was quite cold. We did arrive on a Sunday night - the restaurant was open with an understandably limited menu. One of us is a no-fish vegetarian and so it is our fault that there was nothing we could sit down to and we could find nothing open in the village. But it was our fault. Should have rung ahead. We would happily visit again. Breakfast was extensive and good but, other than pancakes, nothing hot.

We had a fabulous 2 night stay at Alentejo Star Hotel last week. The rooms are very spacious and clean. Very comfortable beds. Air con worked very well and it was needed as the temp was 34 degrees ! The pool area is vey pleasant and towels provided. The bar and restaurant were fabulous .Lots of places to sit and the outside terrace was a great spot in the evening. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially ‘Bob’ in the bar. Such a nice man. In the town the remains of the old mine were really interesting and the swimming lake was a great place to cool down. Will definitely be back

The observatory and seminar on astronomy was amazing

Due to the Covid situation the last time we were in Portugal was in 2019... This summer we got vaccinated and my daughter, 17 and myself 50, we left Zürich to visit our relatives. We decided to travel around Portugal. We booked a room by using the hotel's homepage and they were very professional. The hotel is located in a beautiful place surrounded by nature. From our balcony we could see the lagoon where we went bathing. It takes a few minutes to get there. The beach has the quality flag from the EU. Not only the hotel room was huge but also the WC and the balcony! There is a pol service and towels are for free. We felt very cosy there and we sat sometimes on the chairs whenever we did not want to use the reclyning chairs. Plenty of place for all! The covid measures are followed all time. The meals: I must say that some Swiss hotels should visit this hotel...the buffet for breakfast was very big and diverse. Alwasy Covid conformed. You can order anytime a meal during the day and for dinner due to the covid regulations you should reserve a table in advance. There was a buffet for dinner with several starters, soup, fish, meat, pasta, desserts, etc. The price is extremely low. All included except drinks costs around 18.00 euros...If you have been to hotels similar to this one you know that this is a low price. The service was very professional and always ready to work. A last comment concerning Alex from the reception: such a kind person! We were impressed by his positive attitude and he is an excellent employee! Thanks Alex!

We only stayed one night as we were visiting Mértola. Large parking lot, large old mine hotel, pleasant swimming pool and impeccable bar service. It exudes tranquility. We are thinking of coming back for longer and taking better advantage of the facilities

Expectations exceeded! Hotel much more comfortable than it looks in the photos on the internet. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very attentive. Rooms with good soundproofing, and light-blocking curtains. Excellent location. Definitely considering returning

It was a really nice experience. I would like to thank Patricia from reservations for her attention, for resolving the problems we had with the reservation in addition to managing a problem with the observatory. Thanks for your managemet. I also want to thank Luis at the reception for his kindness and showing us the observatory. On the other hand, Andres (Russian maitre) from the restaurant for serving us so well during the dinners we had. A magnificent hotel, to spend a few relaxing days watching the stars.

Spacious room with good bathroom. Attentive and helpful staff. There is no garage for motorcycles and they were located next to the entrance. Good and varied breakfast. The bread is very good and there were some delicious custard tarts.
