West End
Firstly, I don't like to speak bad of anywhere without reason, however this place as so much potential but needs someone in there to manage it and bring the best out of it. It's a 30 min walk to the castle, with bus stops right outside. The room was spacious with a comfy bed and a reasonably newly refurbished bathroom and free parking which was my reason for booking in the first place( because not many places have free parking) I decided to have breakfast included and this is where it all falls dreadfully by the wayside. When we got to the breakfast room, there were cereals on show, but no milk. The bloke who we had just passed in the corridor emptying the rooms and cleaning them came in to offer us a menu, he disappeared because he was also on reception but on returning took our order(although we asked for milk, none arrived, so we gave up on cereal ) no fresh fruit available either or juice( we did eventually get juice towards the end) We had the full Scottish breakfast( sure the same guy had to go and cook it, because he was gone for an age) when it came, it wouldn't have been fit for a child. The produce was really poor and terribly cooked, we were given white toast ( never asked for any alternative) and the cutlery was all tarnished and black. This hotel is not a 4 star hotel as advertised. Second morning it again was just the same guy running around doing everything( not his fault, he did his best) To summarise, I would use this place for ROOM ONLY, but steer well clear of the breakfast, not value for money. Hope that the potential gets recognised and someone gives this place a bit of TLC, could be great.

Edinburgh Airport
Stayed here for two nights over the bank holiday weekend in August 2022. I'm guessing the price was high because of the fringe and it being a bank holiday weekend. The hotel was bright and breezy. no tea making facilities in the room. No hair dryer, limited storage, no draws. There was tea making facilities in the reception that were free and always available. Breakfast at the hotel was continental and £7.50 each. Quite reasonable for the offering of cereal, pastries, yoghurts, juice, ham and cheeses. Nice location opposite the tram station.

Village Hotel Edinburgh
4.1/5113 Reviews
We travelled to Edinburgh with a team of 22 teenage girls representing our county at a Gaelic football tournament and the staff and management of the Village Hotel were amazing from start to finish. The location, although out of town, suited our purposes as we could walk to our sports venue. As we were a large group we booked through the dedicated Village Hotel sports desk team, Jessica and Louise, who were fantastic and the made the process trouble free. We arrived an hour later than planned due to delayed flights but reception had all our room keys ready, rooms pre-allocated by name so we’re knew exactly where each girl was and all the rooms were together - very useful when you have 22 teenagers to corral! The sports desk organised a pre-ordered meal for our arrival on the Friday night which was carried out seamlessly by the restaurant and our late arrival was not an issue. The food was fantastic and each order was delivered correctly. We had parents who had driven up to Scotland through torrential and the restaurant staff kept them a meal and had them served before they had their coats off. Absolutely faultless service from the check in staff and everyone in the kitchen and restaurant. The sports desk team also organised a buffet for our team on the Saturday night. We expected the usual chips, chicken nuggets, burgers etc but there was also mini toad in the holes that weren’t mini at all, chicken breast, potatoes, veg, salad, pasta, desserts, fruit, plenty of water and juices and teas and coffees for us exhausted coaches and assistants. A special mention to the chefs, Chris and George who went far and above expectations and looked after us all amazingly. Another faultless service from everyone in the kitchen. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was brilliant. Plenty of everything and enough choice for the fussiest of teenage girls - nobody went hungry. Our rooms were clean and warm and all the twin rooms had 2 double beds which was a huge luxury for our girls. All in all, the Village Hotel was the perfect venue for our group and we wouldn’t hesitate to book with them again. Thank you to the management and staff for making what could have been a nightmare trip a breeze.

Hotels in Edinburgh

Weather and the best time to travel to Edinburgh:

Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland. It is the second-most populous city of Scotland and is among the 20 most populated cities of the United Kingdom. The city has an overall population of about a million as of 2018, and the total area of the capital city is about 102 miles squared. Edinburgh is the hub of Scotland culturally, diplomatically, educationally, and financially. The city includes its former villages and towns from the 19th century after expanding and retains its true old character in many aspects. The New Town and Old Town areas of Edinburgh are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The climate of Edinburgh is very similar to the rest of the country. The region experiences a maritime, temperate climate that is mild in comparison to other places (like Moscow) which lie on the same latitudinal level. This temperate nature is due to the moderating effect due to Edinburgh’s proximity to the sea. The city is situated in between coast and hills and is often referred to as “the windy city”. Winter temperatures of Edinburgh cannot be called freezing, but yes winters can get a bit cold there. Talking about summers, the days are not very hot or scorching, rather they are mildly warm.

Airport / nearby airport:

Edinburgh Airport (EDI) is one of the busiest Scottish airports. The airport has got one passenger terminal and operates on one runway. It is located in the city’s Ingliston area some 8 miles away from the city centre. The road distance from the airport to the city can be covered in about 20 minutes. There are many options for getting to Edinburgh from Edinburgh Airport. One can make this journey via taxis, buses, trains, or trams. The Airlink (Lothian 100) bus or the Skylink (Lothian 200, 300, 400) are some buses that run to and from the city. The journey by these buses takes about 35 minutes and costs about 4 £. Taxis generally charge 20 £ to get to the city from the airport. There is also the option of trams which take about 35 minutes to get to the city. The fare of trams from the airport to the city is about 6 £.

Transportation:

The city of Edinburgh has an excellent network system of public transport. The most common forms of commuting used by people are the trams and buses of the city. Apart from this, the city folk very often prefer to cycle to their destination. There are dedicated cycle paths in the city. The main bus operators of Edinburgh and the regions around it are First Edinburgh Buses and Lothian Buses. For a day, unlimited travel costs 4 £ and that rate is the cap of what these buses can charge in a day. One can also use taxis to commute in the city. The black taxis in Edinburgh are a sort of popular phenomenon. They can be hailed on streets, hired physically from stands, or booked on phones too. Apart from these black taxis, there are also private cabs that can be hired to move in and around Edinburgh city comfortably.

How to get to the destination:

Edinburgh Airport is one of the busiest airports in the country. It is easy to get a flight to Edinburgh from almost any part of the world. However, as logic dictates, most long-duration flights from across the world to Edinburgh, will not be direct flights. They will have one or two transit stops in between. Airlines like KLM Royal Dutch, Turkish Airlines, British Airways, Finn Air, Air France, Lufthansa, Delta Air, United Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and Norwegian are some of the major international carriers that fly from the rest of the world to Edinburgh. Within Europe, most flights to Edinburgh are cheap and short distance. A particular tactic that can be employed in order to squeeze in a good travel deal is to use a combination of techniques. This means that one can fly to any of the major airports in Europe and from there on, choose a cheap flight to Edinburgh rather easily.
